1And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.
1雅各 舉目觀看，見 以掃 來了，後頭跟着四百人，他就把孩子們分開交給 利亞 、 拉結 ，和兩個使女，
2And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
2並且叫兩個使女和她們的孩子在前頭， 利亞 和她的孩子在後頭， 拉結 和 約瑟 在儘後頭。
3And he himself passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
3他自己在他們前頭過去，一連七次俯伏在地才就近他哥哥。
4And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him; and they wept.
4以掃 跑來迎接他，將他抱住，又摟着他的頸項，與他親嘴，兩個人就哭了。
5And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said: 'Who are these with thee?' And he said: 'The children whom God hath graciously given thy servant.'
5以掃 舉目看見婦人孩子，就說：「這些和你同行的是誰呢？」 雅各 說：「這些孩子是上帝施恩給你的僕人的。」
6Then the handmaids came near, they and their children, and they bowed down.
6於是兩個使女和她們的孩子前來下拜；
7And Leah also and her children came near, and bowed down; and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed down.
7利亞 和她的孩子也前來下拜；隨後 約瑟 和 拉結 也前來下拜。
8And he said: 'What meanest thou by all this camp which I met?' And he said: 'To find favour in the sight of my lord.'
8以掃 說：「我所遇見的這些群畜是甚麼意思呢？」 雅各 說：「是要在我主面前蒙恩的。」
9And Esau said: 'I have enough; my brother, let that which thou hast be thine.'
9以掃 說：「兄弟啊，我的已經夠了，你的仍歸你吧！」
10And Jacob said: 'Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found favour in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand; forasmuch as I have seen thy face, as one seeth the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.
10雅各 說：「不然，我若在你眼前蒙恩，就求你從我手裏收下這禮物；因為我見了你的面，如同見了上帝的面，並且你容納了我。
11Take, I pray thee, my gift that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.' And he urged him, and he took it.
11求你收下我帶來給你的禮物；因為上帝恩待我，使我充足。」 雅各 再三地求他，他才收下了。
12And he said: 'Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.'
12以掃 說：「我們可以起身前往，我在你前頭走。」
13And he said unto him: 'My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds giving suck are a care to me; and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.
13雅各 對他說：「我主知道孩子們年幼嬌嫩，牛羊也正在乳養的時候，若是催趕一天，群畜都必死了。
14Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant; and I will journey on gently, according to the pace of the cattle that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.'
14求我主在僕人前頭走，我要量着在我面前群畜和孩子的力量慢慢地前行，直走到 西珥 我主那裏。」
15And Esau said: 'Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me.' And he said: 'What needeth it? let me find favour in the sight of my lord.'
15以掃 說：「容我把跟隨我的人留幾個在你這裏。」 雅各 說：「何必呢？只要在我主眼前蒙恩就是了。」
16So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.
16於是， 以掃 當日起行，回往 西珥 去了。
17And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him a house, and made booths for his cattle. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
17雅各 就往 疏割 去，在那裏為自己蓋造房屋，又為牲畜搭棚；因此那地方名叫 疏割 。
18And Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan-aram; and encamped before the city.
18雅各 從 巴旦‧亞蘭 回來的時候，平平安安地到了 迦南 地的 示劍 城，在城東支搭帳棚，
19And he bought the parcel of ground, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for a hundred pieces of money.
19就用一百塊 銀子 向 示劍 的父親、 哈抹 的子孫買了支帳棚的那塊地，
20And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-Israel.
20在那裏築了一座壇，起名叫 伊利‧伊羅伊‧以色列 。
