1After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying: 'Fear not, Abram, I am thy shield, thy reward shall be exceeding great.'
1หลังจากเหตุการณ์เหล่านี้ อับรามได้รับถ้อยคำจากพระยาห์เวห์ในนิมิตว่า “อย่ากลัวเลย อับราม เราเป็นโล่ของเจ้า และเราเองคือรางวัลอันยิ่งใหญ่ของเจ้า”
2And Abram said: 'O Lord GOD, what wilt Thou give me, seeing I go hence childless, and he that shall be possessor of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?'
2อับรามตอบว่า “พระยาห์เวห์ผู้เป็นเจ้านาย พระองค์จะให้อะไรแก่ผม ในเมื่อผมยังไม่มีลูก และคนที่จะรับมรดกของผมคือเอลีเอเซอร์ชาวดามัสกัส”
3And Abram said: 'Behold, to me Thou hast given no seed, and, lo, one born in my house is to be mine heir.'
3อับรามพูดต่อว่า “พระองค์ไม่ได้ให้ลูกแก่ผมเลย และคนที่เกิดในเรือนของผมกลับจะเป็นทายาทของผม”
4And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying: 'This man shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.'
4แล้วถ้อยคำจากพระยาห์เวห์ก็มาถึงเขาว่า “คนนี้จะไม่เป็นทายาทของเจ้า ลูกที่เกิดจากเจ้าเองต่างหากจะเป็นทายาท”
5And He brought him forth abroad, and said: 'Look now toward heaven, and count the stars, if thou be able to count them'; and He said unto him: 'So shall thy seed be.'
5พระยาห์เวห์พาเขาออกไปข้างนอก แล้วกล่าวว่า “มองขึ้นไปบนท้องฟ้า แล้วลองนับดาวดู ถ้าเจ้านับได้” แล้วกล่าวกับอับรามว่า “ลูกหลานของเจ้าจะมากมายอย่างนั้น”
6And he believed in the LORD; and He counted it to him for righteousness.
6อับรามเชื่อพระยาห์เวห์ และพระองค์นับความเชื่อนั้นเป็นความชอบธรรมแก่เขา
7And He said unto him: 'I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.'
7พระองค์กล่าวกับอับรามว่า“เราคือพระยาห์เวห์ผู้พาเจ้าออกจากอูร์แห่งชาวเคลเดียเพื่อมอบดินแดนนี้ให้เจ้าเป็นมรดก”
8And he said: 'O Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?'
8อับรามถามว่า “พระยาห์เวห์ผู้เป็นเจ้านาย ผมจะรู้ได้อย่างไรว่าดินแดนนี้จะเป็นมรดกของผม”
9And He said unto him: 'Take Me a heifer of three years old, and a she-goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon.'
9พระองค์กล่าวว่า“นำลูกวัวตัวเมียอายุ 3 ปีแพะตัวเมียอายุ 3 ปีแกะตัวผู้อายุ 3 ปีนกเขาหนึ่งตัวและลูกนกพิราบหนึ่งตัวมาให้เรา”
10And he took him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each half over against the other; but the birds divided he not.
10อับรามนำสัตว์ทั้งหมดมา แล้วผ่าแต่ละตัวออกเป็นสองซีก วางแต่ละซีกตรงข้ามกัน แต่ไม่ได้ผ่านก
11And the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.
11เมื่อนกล่าเหยื่อบินลงมาที่ซากสัตว์อับรามก็ไล่พวกมันไป
12And it came to pass, that, when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, a dread, even a great darkness, fell upon him.
12ขณะดวงอาทิตย์กำลังลับลงอับรามก็หลับสนิท แล้วความหวาดกลัวกับความมืดมิดอันหนักหน่วงก็ครอบงำเขา
13And He said unto Abram: 'Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
13พระองค์กล่าวกับอับรามว่า “รู้ไว้ให้แน่ว่าลูกหลานของเจ้าจะไปอยู่เป็นคนต่างถิ่นในดินแดนที่ไม่ใช่ของพวกเขา และจะรับใช้คนที่นั่น พวกเขาจะถูกกดขี่อยู่ 400 ปี
14and also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge; and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
14เราจะพิพากษาชนชาติที่พวกเขารับใช้ด้วย หลังจากนั้นพวกเขาจะออกมาพร้อมทรัพย์สินมากมาย
15But thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
15ส่วนเจ้าจะไปหาบรรพบุรุษของเจ้าอย่างสงบและจะถูกฝังเมื่อมีอายุยืนยาว
16And in the fourth generation they shall come back hither; for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full.'
16ในรุ่นที่ 4 ลูกหลานของเจ้าจะกลับมาที่นี่เพราะความชั่วของชาวอาโมไรต์ยังไม่ถึงขีดสุด”
17And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and there was thick darkness, behold a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch that passed between these pieces.
17เมื่อดวงอาทิตย์ลับลงและมืดแล้ว ปรากฏว่ามีเตาไฟที่ควันโขมง และคบเพลิงที่ลุกเป็นไฟ ผ่านไประหว่างชิ้นเนื้อเหล่านั้น
18In that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: 'Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates;
18วันนั้นพระยาห์เวห์ทำพันธสัญญากับอับรามว่า“เราได้มอบดินแดนนี้ให้ลูกหลานของเจ้าตั้งแต่แม่น้ำแห่งอียิปต์ไปจนถึงแม่น้ำใหญ่คือแม่น้ำยูเฟรติส
19the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite,
19คือดินแดนของชาวเคไนต์ชาวเคนิสซีชาวคัดโมไนต์
20and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim,
20ชาวฮิตไทต์ชาวเปริสซีชาวเรฟาอิม
21and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.'
21ชาวอาโมไรต์ชาวคานาอันชาวเกอร์กาชีและชาวเยบุส”
