1Now Sarai Abram's wife bore him no children; and she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
1ซารายภรรยาของอับรามยังไม่มีลูกให้เขา เธอมีทาสหญิงชาวอียิปต์คนหนึ่งชื่อฮาการ์
2And Sarai said unto Abram: 'Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing; go in, I pray thee, unto my handmaid; it may be that I shall be builded up through her.' And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
2ซารายพูดกับอับรามว่า “ฟังนะ พระยาห์เวห์ไม่ให้ฉันมีลูก ไปหลับนอนกับทาสหญิงของฉันเถอะ บางทีฉันอาจจะได้ลูกจากนาง” อับรามก็ฟังซาราย
3And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband to be his wife.
3หลังจากอับรามอาศัยอยู่ในดินแดนคานาอันได้ 10 ปีซารายภรรยาของเขาก็พาฮาการ์ทาสหญิงชาวอียิปต์ของตนมายกให้อับรามสามีเป็นภรรยา
4And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived; and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
4อับรามหลับนอนกับฮาการ์และเธอก็ตั้งครรภ์ เมื่อรู้ว่าตนตั้งครรภ์เธอก็เริ่มดูแคลนนายหญิงของตน
5And Sarai said unto Abram: 'My wrong be upon thee: I gave my handmaid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.'
5ซารายพูดกับอับรามว่า “เรื่องที่ฉันถูกดูหมิ่นนี้เป็นความผิดของเธอ ฉันยกทาสหญิงให้เธอแล้ว แต่พอนางรู้ว่าตั้งครรภ์ นางก็ดูแคลนฉัน ขอให้พระยาห์เวห์ตัดสินระหว่างฉันกับเธอ”
6But Abram said unto Sarai: 'Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her that which is good in thine eyes.' And Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her face.
6อับรามตอบซารายว่า “ทาสหญิงของเธอ เธอจะทำกับนางอย่างไรก็ได้ตามที่เห็นว่าดี” ซารายปฏิบัติต่อฮาการ์อย่างรุนแรง จนเธอหนีไป
7And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
7ทูตของพระยาห์เวห์พบฮาการ์ที่ตาน้ำแห่งหนึ่งในถิ่นทุรกันดาร ข้างทางไปชูร์
8And he said: 'Hagar, Sarai's handmaid, whence camest thou? and whither goest thou?' And she said: 'I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.'
8ทูตนั้นถามว่า“ฮาการ์ทาสหญิงของซารายเจ้ามาจากไหนและจะไปไหน” เธอตอบว่า“ฉันกำลังหนีจากซารายนายหญิงของฉัน”
9And the angel of the LORD said unto her: 'Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.'
9ทูตของพระยาห์เวห์บอกเธอว่า“กลับไปหานายหญิงของเจ้าและยอมอยู่ใต้อำนาจของนาง”
10And the angel of the LORD said unto her: 'I will greatly multiply thy seed, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
10ทูตของพระยาห์เวห์กล่าวอีกว่า“เราจะทำให้ลูกหลานของเจ้าเพิ่มมากอย่างยิ่งจนนับไม่ถ้วน”
11And the angel of the LORD said unto her: 'Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son; and thou shalt call his name Ishmael, because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
11ทูตของพระยาห์เวห์กล่าวต่อว่า “เจ้ากำลังตั้งครรภ์ และจะคลอดลูกชาย ตั้งชื่อเขาว่าอิชมาเอล เพราะพระยาห์เวห์ได้ยินความทุกข์ของเจ้า
12And he shall be a wild ass of a man: his hand shall be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the face of all his brethren.'
12เขาจะเป็นเหมือนลาป่าท่ามกลางมนุษย์ มือของเขาจะต่อสู้กับทุกคนและมือของทุกคนจะต่อสู้กับเขา เขาจะอาศัยอยู่อย่างเป็นปฏิปักษ์กับพี่น้องทั้งหมดของเขา”
13And she called the name of the LORD that spoke unto her, Thou art a God of seeing; for she said: 'Have I even here seen Him that seeth Me?'
13ฮาการ์เรียกพระนามของพระยาห์เวห์ผู้กล่าวกับเธอว่า“พระองค์คือพระเจ้าผู้มองเห็น”เพราะเธอพูดว่า“ฉันยังมีชีวิตอยู่จริงหรือหลังจากได้เห็นพระองค์”
14Wherefore the well was called 'Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
14เพราะเหตุนี้บ่อน้ำนั้นจึงได้ชื่อว่าเบเออร์ลาไฮรอย บ่อนั้นอยู่ระหว่างคาเดชกับเบเรด
15And Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
15ฮาการ์คลอดลูกชายให้อับรามและอับรามตั้งชื่อลูกชายที่ฮาการ์คลอดว่าอิชมาเอล
16And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.
16อับรามอายุ 86 ปีตอนที่ฮาการ์คลอดอิชมาเอลให้เขา
