1Now Sarai Abram's wife bore him no children; and she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
1亚伯兰 的妻子 撒莱 不给他生儿女。 撒莱 有一个使女，名叫 夏甲 ，是 埃及 人。
2And Sarai said unto Abram: 'Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing; go in, I pray thee, unto my handmaid; it may be that I shall be builded up through her.' And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
2撒莱 对 亚伯兰 说：「耶和华使我不能生育。求你和我的使女同房，或者我可以因她得孩子。」 亚伯兰 听从了 撒莱 的话。
3And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband to be his wife.
3于是 亚伯兰 的妻子 撒莱 将使女 埃及 人 夏甲 给了丈夫为妾；那时 亚伯兰 在 迦南 已经住了十年。
4And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived; and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
4亚伯兰 与 夏甲 同房， 夏甲 就怀了孕；她见自己有孕，就小看她的主母。
5And Sarai said unto Abram: 'My wrong be upon thee: I gave my handmaid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.'
5撒莱 对 亚伯兰 说：「我因你受屈。我将我的使女放在你怀中，她见自己有了孕，就小看我。愿耶和华在你我中间判断。」
6But Abram said unto Sarai: 'Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her that which is good in thine eyes.' And Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her face.
6亚伯兰 对 撒莱 说：「使女在你手下，你可以随意待她。」 撒莱 苦待她，她就从 撒莱 面前逃走了。
7And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
7耶和华的使者在旷野 书珥 路上的水泉旁遇见她，
8And he said: 'Hagar, Sarai's handmaid, whence camest thou? and whither goest thou?' And she said: 'I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.'
8对她说：「 撒莱 的使女 夏甲 ，你从哪里来？要往哪里去？」 夏甲 说：「我从我的主母 撒莱 面前逃出来。」
9And the angel of the LORD said unto her: 'Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.'
9耶和华的使者对她说：「你回到你主母那里，服在她手下」；
10And the angel of the LORD said unto her: 'I will greatly multiply thy seed, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
10又说：「我必使你的后裔极其繁多，甚至不可胜数」；
11And the angel of the LORD said unto her: 'Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son; and thou shalt call his name Ishmael, because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
11并说：「你如今怀孕要生一个儿子，可以给他起名叫 以实玛利 ，因为耶和华听见了你的苦情。
12And he shall be a wild ass of a man: his hand shall be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the face of all his brethren.'
12他为人必像野驴。他的手要攻打人，人的手也要攻打他；他必住在众弟兄的东边。」
13And she called the name of the LORD that spoke unto her, Thou art a God of seeing; for she said: 'Have I even here seen Him that seeth Me?'
13夏甲 就称那对她说话的耶和华为「看顾人的 神」。因而说：「在这里我也看见那看顾我的吗？」
14Wherefore the well was called 'Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
14所以这井名叫 庇耳·拉海·莱 。这井正在 加低斯 和 巴列 中间。
15And Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
15后来 夏甲 给 亚伯兰 生了一个儿子； 亚伯兰 给他起名叫 以实玛利 。
16And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.
16夏甲 给 亚伯兰 生 以实玛利 的时候， 亚伯兰 年八十六岁。
