1And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.
1その子ヨシャファテが代わって王となり、イスラエルに対する防備を固めた。
2And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
2彼はユダのすべての防備の町に軍隊を置き、ユダの地と、彼の父アサが奪い取ったエフライムの町々に守備隊を置いた。
3And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto the Baalim;
3主はヨシャファテとともにおられた。彼が父祖ダビデの初めの歩みに倣い、バアルを尋ね求めず、
4but sought to the God of his father, and walked in His commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
4父祖の神を尋ね求め、イスラエルの行いではなく、その命令に歩んだからである。
5Therefore the LORD established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.
5それゆえ主は彼の王権を確立された。全ユダはヨシャファテに貢ぎ物を持って来た。彼は豊かな富と誉れを得た。
6And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD; and furthermore he took away the high places and the Asherim out of Judah.
6彼は主の道を歩むことに誇りを持ち、さらにユダから高き所とアシェラ像を取り除いた。
7Also in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, even Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah;
7また、その治世の第三年に、彼は君たち、すなわちベン・ハイル、オバデヤ、ゼカリヤ、ネタンエル、ミカヤを遣わして、ユダの町々で教えさせた。
8and with them the Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.
8彼らとともにレビ人たち、すなわちシェマヤ、ネタンヤ、ゼバデヤ、アサエル、シェミラモテ、エホナタン、アドニヤ、トビヤ、トブ・アドニヤというレビ人たち、そして彼らとともに祭司であるエリシャマとエホラムを遣わした。
9And they taught in Judah, having the book of the Law of the LORD with them; and they went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.
9彼らは主の律法の書を携えて、ユダで教え、ユダのすべての町々を巡って民の間で教えた。
10And a terror from the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
10主の恐れがユダの周囲にあるすべての国の王国に臨んだので、彼らはヨシャファテと戦おうとはしなかった。
11And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and silver for tribute; the Arabians also brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he-goats.
11ペリシテ人の一部はヨシャファテに贈り物と貢ぎ物の銀を持って来た。アラビア人もまた、彼に羊とヤギの群れ、すなわち雄羊七千七百匹と雄ヤギ七千七百匹を持って来た。
12And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles and cities of store.
12ヨシャファテはますます勢力を増し、ユダに要害と貯蔵の町々を建てた。
13And he had many works in the cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty men of valour, in Jerusalem.
13彼はユダの町々で多くの事業を行い、エルサレムには戦士である力ある勇士たちがいた。
14And this was the numbering of them according to their fathers' houses: of Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand;
14彼らの父祖の家ごとの人数は次のとおりである。ユダの千人の長たちのうち、長であるアドナと、彼とともにいる三十万人の力ある勇士。
15and next to him Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand;
15次に、長であるエホハナンと、彼とともにいる二十八万人。
16and next to him Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour;
16次に、進んで自らを主にささげたジクリの子アマツヤと、彼とともにいる二十万人の力ある勇士。
17and of Benjamin: Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield;
17ベニヤミンからは、力ある勇士エリアダと、彼とともにいる弓と盾を携えた二十万人。
18and next to him Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for war.
18次に、エホザバドと、彼とともにいる戦いの備えをした十八万人。
19These were they that waited on the king beside those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
19これらの者が王に仕えていた。このほかに、王がユダ全土の防備の町々に置いた者たちがいた。
