1And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead; for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
1エルサレムの住民は、彼の末っ子アハズヤを彼に代わって王とした。アラビア人とともに宿営に来た部隊が、兄たちをみな殺していたからである。こうしてユダの王エホラムの子アハズヤが治めた。
2Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.
2アハズヤは四十二歳で王となり、エルサレムで一年間治めた。母の名はアタルヤといい、オムリの娘であった。
3He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab; for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.
3彼もまたアハブの家の道を歩んだ。彼の母が、悪を行うように彼に助言したからである。
4And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab; for they were his counsellors after the death of his father, to his destruction.
4彼はアハブの家がしたように、主の目に悪を行った。彼の父の死後、彼らが彼の助言者となり、彼を滅びに至らせたからである。
5He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead; and the Arameans wounded Joram.
5彼もまた彼らの助言に従って歩み、イスラエルの王アハブの子エホラムとともに、ラモテ・ギルアドでアラムの王ハザエルと戦うために行った。アラム人はヨラムを傷つけた。
6And he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which they had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
6彼はアラムの王ハザエルと戦ったとき、ラマで受けた傷を癒やすためにエズレルに帰った。ユダの王エホラムの子アザルヤは、アハブの子エホラムが病気であったため、彼を見舞うためにエズレルに下って行った。
7Now the downfall of Ahaziah was of God, in that he went unto Joram; for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.
7アハズヤが滅びたのは神によることであり、彼がヨラムのもとへ行ったことがその契機となった。彼が来たとき、彼はエホラムとともに、主がアハブの家を断ち切るために油注がれた、ニムシの子イエフに向かって出て行った。
8And it came to pass, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, ministering to Ahaziah, and slew them.
8イエフがアハブの家にさばきを下していたとき、彼はアハズヤに仕えていたユダの君たちや、アハズヤの兄弟の息子たちを見つけて、彼らを殺した。
9And he sought Ahaziah, and they caught him — now he was hiding in Samaria — and they brought him to Jehu, and slew him; and they buried him, for they said: 'He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart.' And there was none of the house of Ahaziah that had power to hold the kingdom.
9彼はアハズヤを捜し求めた。アハズヤはサマリアに隠れていたが、人々は彼を捕らえ、イエフのもとに連れて来て殺した。彼らは彼を葬った。彼らが「彼は心を尽くして主を尋ね求めたヨシャファテの子である」と言ったからである。アハズヤの家には、王国を保つ力がなかった。
10Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.
10アハズヤの母アタルヤは、自分の子が死んだのを見ると、立ち上がってユダの家の王の末裔をみな滅ぼした。
11But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in the bed-chamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest — for she was the sister of Ahaziah — hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.
11しかし、王の娘エホシャベアテは、アハズヤの子ヨアシュを連れて、殺されようとしている王の子らの中から彼を盗み出し、彼とその乳母を寝室に入れた。こうして、エホラム王の娘であり、祭司エホヤダの妻であるエホシャベアテは（彼女はアハズヤの妹であったため）、彼をアタルヤから隠し、殺されないようにした。
12And he was with them hid in the house of God six years; and Athaliah reigned over the land.
12彼は彼女たちとともに神の家で六年間隠れていた。アタルヤがその地を治めていた。
