1不正なはかりは主に忌み嫌われるが、 正しい重りは主に喜ばれる。
1A deceitful balance is an abomination before the Lord: and a just weight is his will.
2高慢が来れば恥も来るが、 へりくだる者には知恵がある。
2Where pride is, there also shall be reproach: but where humility is, there also is wisdom.
3正しい者の誠実さは彼らを導くが、 不実な者のよこしまさは彼らを滅ぼす。
3The simplicity of the just shall guide them: and the deceitfulness of the wicked shall destroy them.
4御怒りの日には富も何の益にもならないが、 義は死から救い出す。
4Riches shall not profit in the day of revenge: but justice shall deliver from death.
5潔白な者の義はその道をまっすぐにするが、 悪しき者は自分の悪によって倒れる。
5The justice of the upright shall make his way prosperous: and the wicked man shall fall by his own wickedness.
6正しい者の義は彼らを救い出すが、 不実な者は悪い欲望によって捕らえられる。
6The justice of the righteous shall deliver them: and the unjust shall be caught in their own snares.
7悪しき者が死ぬと、その望みは滅び、 力にかけた期待も消えうせる。
7When the wicked man is dead, there shall be no hope any more: and the expectation of the solicitous shall perish.
8義人は苦難から救い出され、 悪しき者が代わってその中に陥る。
8The just is delivered out of distress: and the wicked shall be given up for him.
9神を恐れない者は口によって隣人を滅ぼすが、 義人は知識によって救い出される。
9The dissembler with his mouth deceiveth his friend: but the just shall be delivered by knowledge.
10義人が栄えると、町は喜び、 悪しき者が滅びると、喜びの声が上がる。
10When it goeth well with the just the city shall rejoice: and when the wicked perish there shall be praise.
11正しい者の祝福によって町は高くされるが、 悪しき者の口によって町は覆される。
11By the blessing of the just the city shall be exalted: and by the mouth of the wicked it shall be overthrown.
12隣人を侮る者には知恵がないが、 悟りのある人は黙っている。
12He that despiseth his friend, is mean of heart: but the wise man will hold his peace.
13うわさを言い広める者は秘密を漏らすが、 信頼できる心の者は秘密を守る。
13He that walketh deceitfully, revealeth secrets: but he that is faithful, concealeth the thing committed to him by his friend.
14賢明な導きがなければ、民は倒れるが、 助言者が多ければ勝利がある。
14Where there is no governor, the people shall fall: but there is safety where there is much counsel.
15見知らぬ人の保証人となる者は苦しみを受けるが、 保証人になることを嫌う者は安全である。
15He shall be afflicted with evil, that is surety for a stranger: but he that is aware of the snares, shall be secure.
16恵み深い女は誉れを得るが、 暴力を振るう者たちは富を得る。
16A gracious woman shall find glory: and the strong shall have riches.
17あわれみ深い人は自分自身を益するが、 残酷な者は自分の肉体を苦しめる。
17A merciful man doth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel casteth off even his own kindred.
18悪しき者は偽りの報酬を得るが、 義を蒔く者は確かな報いを受ける。
18The wicked maketh an unsteady work: but to him that soweth justice, there is a faithful reward.
19真に義である者は命に至り、 悪を追い求める者は死に至る。
19Clemency prepareth life: and the pursuing of evil things, death.
20心のよこしまな者たちは主に忌み嫌われるが、 潔白な道を歩む者たちは主に喜ばれる。
20A perverse heart is abominable to the Lord: and his will is in them that walk sincerely.
21確かに、悪い者は罰を免れないが、 義人の子孫は救い出される。
21Hand in hand the evil man shall not be innocent: but the seed of the just shall be saved.
22豚の鼻にある金の輪のように、 分別を欠く美しい女も同じ。
22A golden ring in a swine’s snout, a woman fair and foolish.
23義人の願いは良いことだけだが、 悪しき者を待ち受けるのは怒りだけである。
23The desire of the just is all good: the expectation of the wicked is indignation.
24惜しみなく与えて、なお富を増す者がいる。 与えるべきものまで惜しんで、かえって貧しくなる者がいる。
24Some distribute their own goods, and grow richer: others take away what is not their own, and are always in want.
25惜しみなく施す者は豊かになり、 人を潤す者は自分も潤される。
25The soul which blesseth, shall be made fat: and he that inebriateth, shall be inebriated also himself.
26穀物を売らずに蓄える者を民は呪うが、 それを売る者の頭には祝福がある。
26He that hideth up corn, shall be cursed among the people: but a blessing upon the head of them that sell.
27熱心に善を求める者は好意を求めるが、 悪を探し求める者には、悪が降りかかる。
27Well doth he rise early who seeketh good things; but he that seeketh after evil things shall be oppressed by them.
28自分の富に信頼する者は倒れるが、 義人は青々とした葉のように栄える。
28He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the just shall spring up as a green leaf.
29自分の家を悩ませる者は風を受け継ぎ、 愚かな者は心に知恵のある者のしもべとなる。
29He that troubleth his own house, shall inherit the winds: and the fool shall serve the wise.
30義人の実は命の木であり、 知恵のある者は人の心を得る。
30The fruit of the just man is a tree of life: and he that gaineth souls, is wise.
31見よ、義人でさえ地上で報いを受ける。 まして悪しき者と罪人は、なおさらである。
31If the just man receive in the earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner.
