1But Job answered, and said:
1To naah Job mah,
2O that my sins, whereby I have deserved wrath, and the calamity that I suffer, were weighed in a balance.
2Palung ka sethaih hoi raihaih loe tah thai mak ai,
3As the sand of the sea this would appear heavier: therefore my words are full of sorrow:
3tuipui ih savuet pongah doeh azit kue, to pongah ni kamthlai hmoek ah lok ka paeh moeng.
4For the arrows of the Lord are in me, the rage whereof drinketh up my spirit, and the terrors of the Lord war against me.
4Thacak Sithaw ih palaanawk mah kai to cop moe, ka pakhra mah kasoe tui to naek; zitthok Sithaw thacakhaih loe ka hmaa ah oh.
5Will the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or will the ox low when he standeth before a full manger?
5Qam caak naah taw ih laa hrang hang maw? Caak han phroh oh naah maitawtae ambuu maw?
6Or can an unsavoury thing be eaten, that is not seasoned with salt? or can a man taste that which when tasted bringeth death?
6Kakhraem ai caaknaek paloi ai ah caak thai maw? To tih ai boeh loe aadui tui kanglung pongah khraemhaih oh maw?
7The things which before my soul would not touch, now, through anguish are my meats.
7Ka pakhra mah to baktih caaknaek sui hanah koeh ai; to baktih caaknaek loe palungsethaih caaknaek ah oh.
8Who will grant that my request may come: and that God may give me what I look for?
8Aw ka hnik ih hmuen to hak nasoe, ka koeh ih hmuen to Sithaw mah na paek nasoe!
9And that he that hath begun may destroy me, that he may let loose his hand, and cut me off?
9Sithaw mah kai hae paro nasoe, tiah koehhaih ka tawnh; a ban phok nasoe loe, na takroek pat halat nasoe!
10And that this may be my comfort, that afflicting me with sorrow, he spare not, nor I contradict the words of the Holy One.
10To tiah ni monghaih ka tawn tih, ue, palungsethaih ka pauep han, kai hae na tahmen hmah nasoe; Ciimcai Sithaw ih loknawk to ka aek ai.
11For what is my strength, that I can hold out? or what is my end that I should keep patience?
11Thacakhaih ka tawn ai boeh, timaw ka oep khing han vop? Saning kasawk ah ka hing cadoeh tih oephaih maw oh vop?
12My strength is not the strength of stones, nor is my flesh of brass.
12Ka thacakhaih loe thlung thacakhaih ah maw oh? To tih ai boeh loe kai ih angan loe sumkamling ngan maw?
13Behold there is no help for me in myself, and my familiar friends also are departed from me.
13Kai loe kaimah hoi kaimah kang bomh thai ai, ka palunghahaih doeh boeng boeh.
14He that taketh away mercy from his friend, forsaketh the fear of the Lord.
14Patangkhang kami loe angmah ih ampui mah tahmenhaih amtuengsak han oh; toe anih mah tahmen ai nahaeloe, anih loe Lensawk Sithaw zithaih tawn ai kami ah ni oh.
15My brethren have passed by me, as the torrent that passeth swiftly in the valleys.
15Kam nawkamyanawk loe kalen moe, kakang let vacong tui baktiah aling thaih kami ah oh o;
16They that fear the hoary frost, the snow shall fall upon them.
16to tui loe kamkhawk tui, amtueng ai ah kamzawt dantui mah lensak:
17At the time when they shall be scattered they shall perish: and after it groweth hot they shall be melted out of their place.
17toe to tui loe nipui tue ah kang moe, ni kabae mah amzawtsak boih.
18The paths of their steps are entangled: they shall walk in vain, and shall perish.
18To vacongnawk loe angmacae longhaih loklam to anghmang o, loklam ai ah a long o moe, anghmat angtaa o.
19Consider the paths of Thema, the ways of Saba, and wait a little while.
19Tema ih kaminawk mah tui to pakrong o, Sheba prae hoi kholong caeh kaminawk mah tui to oephaih hoiah zing o.
20They are confounded, because I have hoped: they are come also even unto me, and are covered with shame.
20Nihcae oephaih tawnh o, toe palungboeng o ving; to ah phak o naah, palungboeng o.
21Now you are come: and now seeing my affliction you are afraid.
21To baktih toengah nangcae doeh azom pui ni, tiah amtueng boeh; ka tongh ih raihaih na hnuk o naah, na zit o boeh.
22Did I say: Bring to me, and give me of your substance?
22Kai khaeah bokhaih tangqum to sin oh, to tih ai boeh loe na tawnh o ih hmuenmae thung hoiah tangqum na paek oh,
23Or deliver me from the hand of the enemy, and rescue me out of the hand of the mighty?
23misa ban thung hoiah na pahlong oh loe, thacak kami ban thung hoiah na krang oh, tiah ka thuih vai maw?
24Teach me, and I will hold my peace: and if I have been ignorant in any thing, instruct me.
24Ka sak pazaehaih na patuek oh, kang hngaiduem han.
25Why have you detracted the words of truth, whereas there is none of you that can reprove me?
25Toenghaih lok loe thacak! Toe kasae nang aek o ih lok mah timaw angcoengsak?
26You dress up speeches only to rebuke, and you utter words to the wind.
26Ka thuih ih loknawk kasaethuih hanah na poek o maw, oephaih tawn ai kami mah thuih ih lok loe takhi baktih maw na poek o?
27You rush in upon the fatherless, and you endeavour to overthrow your friend.
27Ue, ampa tawn ai kaminawk to na pacaekthlaek o moe, nam puinawk hanah quum na qaih pae o.
28However finish what you have begun, give ear, and see whether I lie.
28To pongah na khen oh; nangcae hmaa ah lok kam lai mak ai.
29Answer, I beseech you, without contention: and speaking that which is just, judge ye.
29Khopoek o let rae ah, zaehaih net o hmah; ue, khopoek o let raeh; kai loe toenghaih hoiah ni tok ka sak.
30And you shall not And iniquity in my tongue, neither shall folly sound in my mouth.
30Ka palai ah sethaih akap maw? Kai loe kasae kahoih pathlaeng thai ai kami ah maw ka oh?
