1Gióp đáp rằng:

1Then Job answered and said:

2Cho đến ngày nay, sự than siết tôi hãy còn cay đắng, Tay đè trên tôi nặng hơn sự rên siết tôi.

2Even to-day is my complaint bitter; my hand is become heavy because of my groaning.

3Oâi! Chớ chi tôi biết nơi nào tìm được Chúa, Hầu cho đi đến trước tòa của Ngài?

3Oh that I knew where I might find Him, that I might come even to His seat!

4Tôi hẳn sẽ giãi bày duyên cớ tôi trước mặt Ngài, Và làm đầy miệng tôi những lý luận.

4I would order my cause before Him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

5Tôi sẽ biết các lời Ngài đáp lại cho tôi, Và hiểu điều Ngài muốn phán cùng tôi.

5I would know the words which He would answer me, and understand what He would say unto me.

6Chúa há sẽ lấy quyền năng lớn lao Ngài mà tranh luận với tôi sao? Không, Ngài sẽ chú ý về tôi.

6Would He contend with me in His great power? Nay; but He would give heed unto me.

7Tại đó người ngay thẳng sẽ luận biện với Ngài, Và tôi được thoát khỏi kẻ đoán xét tôi đến mãi mãi.

7There the upright might reason with Him; so should I be delivered for ever from my Judge.

8Nầy, tôi đi tới trước, nhưng không có Ngài tại đó; Tôi đi lại sau, song tôi cũng chẳng nhìn thấy Ngài;

8Behold, I go forward, but He is not there, and backward, but I cannot perceive Him;

9Qua phía tả, khi Ngài đang làm công việc đó, song tôi không phân biệt Ngài được; Ngài ẩn tại phía hữu, nên tôi chẳng thấy Ngài.

9On the left hand, when He doth work, but I cannot behold Him, He turneth Himself to the right hand, but I cannot see Him.

10Nhưng Chúa biết con đường tôi đi; Khi Ngài đã thử rèn tôi, tôi sẽ ra như vàng.

10For He knoweth the way that I take; when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

11Chân tôi bén theo bước Chúa; Tôi giữ đi theo đường Ngài, chẳng hề sai lệch.

11My foot hath held fast to His steps, His way have I kept, and turned not aside.

12Tôi chẳng hề lìa bỏ các điều răn của môi Ngài, Vẫn vâng theo lời của miệng Ngài hơn là ý muốn lòng tôi.

12I have not gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured up the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

13Nhưng Chúa đã một ý nhất định, ai làm cho Ngài đổi được? Điều gì lòng Ngài muốn, ắt Ngài làm cho thành:

13But He is at one with Himself, and who can turn Him? And what His soul desireth, even that He doeth.

14Điều Ngài đã nhất định cho tôi, tất Ngài sẽ làm cho xong: Trong lòng Ngài còn có lắm điều khác giống như vậy.

14For He will perform that which is appointed for me; and many such things are with Him.

15Bởi cớ ấy, tôi kinh khủng trước mặt Ngài; Khi nào tôi tưởng đến, bèn sợ hãi Ngài.

15Therefore am I affrighted at His presence; when I consider, I am afraid of Him.

16Vì Đức Chúa Trời khiến lòng tôi bủn rủn, Đấng Toàn năng làm cho tôi hoảng sợ;

16Yea, God hath made my heart faint, and the Almighty hath affrighted me;

17Vì tôi chẳng sợ sệt bởi sự tối tăm, Cũng chẳng sợ hãi vì u ám mù mịt che phủ mặt tôi.

17Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither did He cover the thick darkness from my face.
