1พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์ ให้ข้าพเจ้าเห็นดังนี้ พระองค์กำลังก่อฝูงตั๊กแตนขึ้นเมื่อพืชรุ่นหลังเริ่มงอก พืชรุ่นนี้งอกหลังจากการเก็บเกี่ยวของกษัตริย์
1Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.
2เมื่อพวกมันกินหญ้าในแผ่นดินหมด ข้าพเจ้าก็ทูลว่า “พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์ ข้าพเจ้าขอวิงวอน โปรดให้อภัย! ยาโคบจะยืนหยัดได้อย่างไร? เขาเล็กนัก”
2And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD , forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
3พระยาห์เวห์เปลี่ยนใจในเรื่องนี้ พระยาห์เวห์กล่าวว่า “จะไม่เกิดขึ้น”
3The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD .
4พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์ ให้ข้าพเจ้าเห็นดังนี้ พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์ เรียกไฟมาเพื่อพิพากษา ไฟทำให้ห้วงน้ำลึกใหญ่แห้งไป และคงจะเผาผลาญแผ่นดินไปด้วย
4¶ Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.
5ข้าพเจ้าจึงทูลว่า “พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์ ข้าพเจ้าขอวิงวอน โปรดหยุด! ยาโคบจะยืนหยัดได้อย่างไร? เขาเล็กนัก”
5Then said I, O Lord GOD , cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
6พระยาห์เวห์เปลี่ยนใจในเรื่องนี้ พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์ กล่าวว่า “เรื่องนี้ก็จะไม่เกิดขึ้นเช่นกัน”
6The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD .
7พระองค์ให้ข้าพเจ้าเห็นดังนี้ พระผู้เป็นเจ้ายืนข้างกำแพงที่สร้างตามแนวสายดิ่ง ถือสายดิ่งไว้ในมือ
7¶ Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
8พระยาห์เวห์ถามข้าพเจ้าว่า “อาโมส คุณเห็นอะไร?” ข้าพเจ้าตอบว่า “สายดิ่ง” พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจึงกล่าวว่า “จงใส่ใจ เราจะวางสายดิ่งไว้ท่ามกลางอิสราเอล ประชาชนของเรา เราจะไม่ละเว้นพวกเขาอีกต่อไป
8And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
9สถานบูชาบนที่สูงของอิสอัคจะร้างเปล่า สถานที่ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของอิสราเอลจะถูกทำลาย เราจะลุกขึ้นต่อสู้ราชวงศ์เยโรโบอัมด้วยดาบ”
9And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
10อามาซิยาห์ ปุโรหิตแห่งเบธเอล ส่งข่าวไปถึงเยโรโบอัม กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลว่า “อาโมสคิดกบฏต่อท่านท่ามกลางตระกูลอิสราเอล บ้านเมืองทนถ้อยคำทั้งหมดของเขาไม่ไหว
10¶ Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
11เพราะอาโมสกล่าวว่า ‘เยโรโบอัมจะตายด้วยดาบ และอิสราเอลจะถูกกวาดต้อนไปเป็นเชลยจากแผ่นดินของตนแน่นอน’”
11For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
12อามาซิยาห์ยังบอกอาโมสว่า “ผู้เห็นนิมิต ไปเถิด หนีไปแผ่นดินยูดาห์ ไปหาเลี้ยงชีพที่นั่น และกล่าวคำพยากรณ์ที่นั่น
12Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
13แต่อย่ากล่าวคำพยากรณ์ที่เบธเอลอีก เพราะที่นี่เป็นสถานที่ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของกษัตริย์ เป็นพระราชฐาน!”
13But prophesy not again any more at Beth-el: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.
14อาโมสตอบอามาซิยาห์ว่า “เดิมข้าพเจ้าไม่ได้เป็นผู้เผยคำพยากรณ์ ไม่ได้เป็นลูกของผู้เผยคำพยากรณ์ ข้าพเจ้าเป็นคนเลี้ยงสัตว์และทำสวนมะเดื่อไซคามอร์
14¶ Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15พระยาห์เวห์พาข้าพเจ้ามาจากที่ข้าพเจ้าตามฝูงสัตว์อยู่ พระยาห์เวห์บอกข้าพเจ้าว่า ‘จงไปกล่าวคำพยากรณ์แก่อิสราเอล ประชาชนของเรา’
15And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
16เพราะฉะนั้น จงฟังถ้อยคำของพระยาห์เวห์ ‘คุณพูดว่า “อย่าพยากรณ์กล่าวโทษอิสราเอล อย่าประกาศกล่าวโทษตระกูลอิสอัค”’
16¶ Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD : Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.
17พระยาห์เวห์จึงกล่าวว่า ‘ภรรยาของคุณจะเป็นหญิงโสเภณีในเมือง ลูกชายและลูกสาวของคุณจะล้มตายด้วยดาบ แผ่นดินของคุณจะถูกแบ่งด้วยสายวัด ตัวคุณเองจะตายในแผ่นดินที่ไม่บริสุทธิ์ และอิสราเอลจะถูกกวาดต้อนไปเป็นเชลยจากแผ่นดินของตนแน่นอน’”
17Therefore thus saith the LORD ; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
