1เด็กชายซามูเอลรับใช้พระยาห์เวห์อยู่ต่อหน้าเอลี ในเวลานั้นพระดำรัสของพระยาห์เวห์มีมาไม่บ่อย และนิมิตก็มีน้อย
1And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no frequent vision.
2คืนหนึ่ง เอลีนอนอยู่ในที่ของตน ดวงตาของเขาเริ่มฝ้าฟางจนมองไม่เห็น
2And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place — now his eyes had begun to wax dim, that he could not see—
3ตะเกียงของพระเจ้ายังไม่ดับ ซามูเอลนอนอยู่ในพระวิหารของพระยาห์เวห์ ซึ่งเป็นที่ตั้งหีบของพระเจ้า
3and the lamp of God was not yet gone out, and Samuel was laid down to sleep in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was,

4that the LORD called Samuel; and he said: 'Here am I.'
5แล้วเขาวิ่งไปหาเอลี พูดว่า “ผมอยู่นี่ครับ ท่านเรียกผม” เอลีตอบว่า “ฉันไม่ได้เรียก กลับไปนอนเถอะ” ซามูเอลจึงกลับไปนอน
5And he ran unto Eli, and said: 'Here am I; for thou didst call me.' And he said: 'I called not; lie down again.' And he went and lay down.
6พระยาห์เวห์ทรงเรียกอีกว่า “ซามูเอล!” เขาลุกไปหาเอลีและพูดว่า “ผมอยู่นี่ครับ ท่านเรียกผม” เอลีตอบว่า “ฉันไม่ได้เรียกหรอก ลูกเอ๋ย กลับไปนอนเถอะ”
6And the LORD called yet again Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said: 'Here am I; for thou didst call me.' And he answered: 'I called not, my son; lie down again.'
7ตอนนั้นซามูเอลยังไม่รู้จักพระยาห์เวห์ และพระดำรัสของพระยาห์เวห์ยังไม่เคยสำแดงแก่เขา
7Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.
8พระยาห์เวห์ทรงเรียกซามูเอลเป็นครั้งที่สาม เขาลุกไปหาเอลีและพูดว่า “ผมอยู่นี่ครับ ท่านเรียกผม” เอลีจึงรู้ว่าพระยาห์เวห์ทรงเรียกเด็กคนนี้
8And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said: 'Here am I; for thou didst call me.' And Eli perceived that the LORD was calling the child.
9เอลีบอกซามูเอลว่า “กลับไปนอนเถอะ ถ้าพระองค์เรียกอีก ให้ตอบว่า ‘ข้าแต่พระยาห์เวห์ โปรดตรัสเถิด ผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์กำลังฟังอยู่’” ซามูเอลจึงกลับไปนอนในที่ของตน
9Therefore Eli said unto Samuel: 'Go, lie down; and it shall be, if thou be called, that thou shalt say: Speak, LORD; for Thy servant heareth.' So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10พระยาห์เวห์เสด็จมายืนและทรงเรียกเหมือนครั้งก่อน ๆ ว่า “ซามูเอล! ซามูเอล!” ซามูเอลตอบว่า “โปรดตรัสเถิด ผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์กำลังฟังอยู่”
10And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times: 'Samuel, Samuel.' Then Samuel said: 'Speak; for Thy servant heareth.'
11พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับซามูเอลว่า “เรากำลังจะทำสิ่งหนึ่งในอิสราเอล ซึ่งจะทำให้ทุกคนที่ได้ยินหูทั้งสองข้างอื้อ
11And the LORD said to Samuel: 'Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
12ในวันนั้น เราจะทำทุกสิ่งที่เราเคยกล่าวไว้เกี่ยวกับครอบครัวของเอลีให้เกิดขึ้นกับเขาตั้งแต่ต้นจนจบ
12In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even unto the end.
13เราบอกเขาแล้วว่าเราจะพิพากษาครอบครัวของเขาตลอดไปเพราะความผิดที่เขารู้ดี ลูกชายของเขาทำให้ตัวเองถูกสาป แต่เขาไม่ได้ห้ามปราม
13For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever, for the iniquity, in that he knew that his sons did bring a curse upon themselves, and he rebuked them not.
14เพราะฉะนั้น เราจึงสาบานต่อครอบครัวของเอลีว่า ความผิดของครอบครัวเขาจะไม่มีวันลบล้างได้ด้วยเครื่องบูชาหรือเครื่องถวาย”
14And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated with sacrifice nor offering for ever.'
15ซามูเอลนอนต่อจนเช้า แล้วจึงเปิดประตูพระนิเวศของพระยาห์เวห์ เขากลัวที่จะบอกเอลีถึงนิมิตนั้น
15And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to tell Eli the vision.
16เอลีเรียกซามูเอลว่า “ซามูเอล ลูกเอ๋ย!” เขาตอบว่า “ครับ ผมอยู่นี่”
16Then Eli called Samuel, and said: 'Samuel, my son.' And he said: 'Here am I.'
17เอลีถามว่า “พระองค์ตรัสอะไรกับเธอ? อย่าปิดบังฉันเลย ถ้าเธอปิดบังแม้แต่เรื่องเดียวจากทุกสิ่งที่พระองค์ตรัสกับเธอ ขอพระเจ้าทำแก่เธออย่างนั้นและยิ่งกว่านั้น”
17And he said: 'What is the thing that He hath spoken unto thee? I pray thee, hide it not from me, God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that He spoke unto thee.'
18ซามูเอลจึงเล่าทุกอย่างให้เอลีฟัง ไม่ปิดบังอะไรเลย เอลีกล่าวว่า “เรื่องนี้มาจากพระยาห์เวห์ ก็ให้พระองค์ทรงทำตามที่ทรงเห็นว่าดีเถิด”
18And Samuel told him all the words, and hid nothing from him. And he said: 'It is the LORD; let Him do what seemeth Him good.'
19ซามูเอลเติบโตขึ้น พระยาห์เวห์ทรงสถิตกับเขา และไม่ทรงปล่อยให้ถ้อยคำใดของซามูเอลตกไปโดยไม่เป็นจริง
19And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
20ชาวอิสราเอลทุกคนตั้งแต่ดานถึงเบเออร์เชบารู้แน่แล้วว่าซามูเอลเป็นผู้เผยพระวจนะของพระยาห์เวห์
20And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.
21พระยาห์เวห์ทรงปรากฏอีกครั้งที่ชิโลห์ เพราะที่นั่นพระองค์ทรงสำแดงพระองค์แก่ซามูเอลผ่านพระดำรัสของพระยาห์เวห์
21And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh; for the LORD revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
