1ชาวฟีลิสเตียรวมกองทัพทั้งหมดที่อาเฟก ส่วนชาวอิสราเอลตั้งค่ายอยู่ข้างน้ำพุที่ยิสเรเอล
1Now the Philistines gathered together all their hosts to Aphek; and the Israelites pitched by the fountain which is in Jezreel.
2บรรดาเจ้าเมืองชาวฟีลิสเตียเดินนำกองทัพที่จัดเป็นกองละร้อยคนและกองละพันคน ส่วนดาวิดกับคนของเขาเดินท้ายขบวนไปกับอาคีช
2And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands; and David and his men passed on in the rearward with Achish.
3เจ้าเมืองชาวฟีลิสเตียถามว่า “ชาวฮีบรูพวกนี้มาทำอะไร?” อาคีชตอบพวกเขาว่า “นี่ดาวิด คนรับใช้ของซาอูล กษัตริย์อิสราเอล ผู้ที่อยู่กับฉันมาหลายวันหรือแม้แต่หลายปีไม่ใช่หรือ? ตั้งแต่เขาแปรพักตร์มาหาฉันจนถึงวันนี้ ฉันไม่พบความผิดอะไรในตัวเขา”
3Then said the princes of the Philistines: 'What do these Hebrews here?' And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines: 'Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who hath been with me these days or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell away unto me unto this day?'
4แต่เจ้าเมืองชาวฟีลิสเตียโกรธอาคีช พวกเขาบอกว่า “ให้ชายคนนี้กลับไปยังที่ที่ท่านจัดให้เขาอยู่ อย่าให้เขาลงไปรบกับเรา มิฉะนั้นเขาอาจหันมาเป็นศัตรูระหว่างรบ เขาจะคืนดีกับเจ้านายเดิมด้วยอะไร ถ้าไม่ใช่ศีรษะของคนเหล่านี้?
4But the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him: 'Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us; for wherewith should this fellow reconcile himself unto his lord? should it not be with the heads of these men?
5นี่ไม่ใช่ดาวิดที่พวกเขาร้องเพลงโต้ตอบกันขณะเต้นรำว่า ‘ซาอูลฆ่าคนเป็นพัน ดาวิดฆ่าคนเป็นหมื่น’ หรอกหรือ?”
5Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying: Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?'
6อาคีชจึงเรียกดาวิดมาบอกว่า “พระยาห์เวห์ทรงพระชนม์อยู่แน่ เจ้าเป็นคนซื่อตรง ในสายตาฉัน การที่เจ้าร่วมทัพออกไปและกลับมากับฉันเป็นเรื่องดี เพราะตั้งแต่เจ้ามาหาฉันจนวันนี้ฉันไม่พบความชั่วในตัวเจ้า แต่บรรดาเจ้าเมืองไม่พอใจเจ้า
6Then Achish called David, and said unto him: 'As the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day; nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
7บัดนี้จงกลับไปอย่างสงบ อย่าทำให้เจ้าเมืองชาวฟีลิสเตียไม่พอใจ”
7Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines.'
8ดาวิดถามอาคีชว่า “ข้าพเจ้าทำอะไรผิด? ตั้งแต่ข้าพเจ้าอยู่ต่อหน้าท่านมาจนวันนี้ ท่านพบความผิดอะไรในตัวข้าพเจ้าหรือ จึงไม่ให้ข้าพเจ้าออกไปรบกับศัตรูของฝ่าบาทผู้เป็นเจ้านายของข้าพเจ้า?”
8And David said unto Achish: 'But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been before thee unto this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?'
9อาคีชตอบดาวิดว่า “ฉันรู้ว่าในสายตาฉันเจ้าเป็นคนดีเหมือนทูตสวรรค์ของพระเจ้า แต่เจ้าเมืองชาวฟีลิสเตียบอกว่า ‘เขาจะไปรบกับเราไม่ได้’
9And Achish answered and said to David: 'I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God; notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said: He shall not go up with us to the battle.
10พรุ่งนี้เช้าจงลุกแต่เช้า พร้อมคนรับใช้ของเจ้านายของเจ้าที่มากับเจ้า พอมีแสงสว่างก็ออกเดินทาง”
10Wherefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of thy lord that are come with thee; and as soon as ye are up early in the morning, and have light, depart.'
11ดาวิดกับคนของเขาลุกแต่เช้าออกเดินทางกลับดินแดนฟีลิสเตีย ส่วนชาวฟีลิสเตียขึ้นไปยังยิสเรเอล
11So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
