1เมื่อดาวิดชรามากและอายุยืนยาวแล้ว เขาตั้งโซโลมอนบุตรชายเป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอล
1Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2ดาวิดเรียกบรรดาผู้นำอิสราเอล ปุโรหิต และชาวเลวีมาชุมนุมกัน
2And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
3มีการนับชาวเลวีตั้งแต่อายุ 30 ปีขึ้นไปทีละคน ได้ 38,000 คน
3And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.
4ดาวิดกล่าวว่า “ในจำนวนนี้ ให้ 24,000 คนกำกับดูแลงานพระวิหารของพระยาห์เวห์ 6,000 คนเป็นเจ้าหน้าที่และผู้พิพากษา
4Of these, twenty and four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges;
5อีก 4,000 คนเฝ้าประตู และ 4,000 คนสรรเสริญพระยาห์เวห์ด้วยเครื่องดนตรีที่เราทำไว้สำหรับการสรรเสริญ”
5and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised the LORD 'with the instruments which I made to praise therewith.'
6ดาวิดแบ่งชาวเลวีเป็นหมวดตามเชื้อสายบุตรชายเลวี ได้แก่ เกอร์โชน โคฮาท และเมรารี
6And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7ฝ่ายชาวเกอร์โชนมีลาดานกับชิเมอี
7Of the Gershonites: Ladan, and Shimei.
8ลาดานมีบุตรชาย 3 คน คือเยฮีเอลผู้เป็นหัวหน้า เศธาม และโยเอล
8The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
9ชิเมอีมีบุตรชาย 3 คน คือเชโลโมท ฮาซีเอล และฮาราน คนเหล่านี้เป็นหัวหน้าตระกูลฝ่ายลาดาน
9The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers' houses of Ladan.
10บุตรชายของชิเมอีมีชื่อว่ายาหัท ศินา เยอูช และเบรียาห์ ทั้ง 4 คนนี้เป็นบุตรชายของชิเมอี
10And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
11ยาหัทเป็นหัวหน้า ศีซาห์เป็นคนที่สอง ส่วนเยอูชกับเบรียาห์มีบุตรชายไม่มาก จึงนับสองครอบครัวนี้รวมเป็นตระกูลเดียว
11And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning.
12โคฮาทมีบุตรชาย 4 คน คืออัมราม อิสฮาร์ เฮโบรน และอุสซีเอล
12The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
13อัมรามมีบุตรชายคืออาโรนกับโมเสส อาโรนกับลูกหลานของเขาได้รับการแยกไว้ตลอดไปเพื่อประกอบพิธีถวายสิ่งบริสุทธิ์ที่สุด เผาเครื่องหอมต่อพระพักตร์พระยาห์เวห์ รับใช้พระองค์ และอวยพรในพระนามของพระองค์
13The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should be sanctified as most holy, he and his sons for ever, to offer before the LORD, to minister unto Him, and to bless in His name for ever.

14But as for Moses the man of God, his sons are named among the tribe of Levi.

15The sons of Moses: Gershom, and Eliezer.
16บุตรชายของเกอร์โชมคือเชบูเอลผู้เป็นหัวหน้า
16The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.
17เอลีเอเซอร์มีบุตรชายเพียงคนเดียวคือเรหับยาห์ผู้เป็นหัวหน้า แต่เรหับยาห์มีบุตรชายจำนวนมาก
17And the sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
18บุตรชายของอิสฮาร์คือเชโลมิทผู้เป็นหัวหน้า
18The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.
19เฮโบรนมีบุตรชายคือเยรียาห์ผู้เป็นหัวหน้า อามาริยาห์คนที่สอง ยาฮาซีเอลคนที่สาม และเยคาเมอัมคนที่สี่
19The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
20อุสซีเอลมีบุตรชายคือมีคาห์ผู้เป็นหัวหน้า กับอิสชีอาห์คนที่สอง
20The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.
21เมรารีมีบุตรชายคือมาห์ลีกับมูชี มาห์ลีมีบุตรชายคือเอเลอาซาร์กับคีช
21The sons of Merari: Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar, and Kish.
22เอเลอาซาร์ตายโดยไม่มีบุตรชาย มีแต่บุตรสาว บุตรชายของคีชซึ่งเป็นญาติแต่งงานกับบุตรสาวเหล่านั้น
22And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only; and their brethren the sons of Kish took them to wife.
23มูชีมีบุตรชาย 3 คน คือมาห์ลี เอเดอร์ และเยเรโมท
23The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24คนเหล่านี้เป็นลูกหลานเลวี แยกตามตระกูลของบรรพบุรุษและหัวหน้าตระกูล พวกเขามีชื่อในทะเบียนเป็นรายคน และผู้ที่ทำงานรับใช้ในพระวิหารของพระยาห์เวห์มีอายุตั้งแต่ 20 ปีขึ้นไป
24These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of the fathers' houses, according to their muster, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from twenty years old and upward.
25เพราะดาวิดกล่าวว่า “พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอลประทานความสงบแก่ประชาชนของพระองค์ และพระองค์จะประทับในเยรูซาเล็มตลอดไป
25For David said: 'The LORD, the God of Israel, hath given rest unto His people, and He dwelleth in Jerusalem for ever;
26ชาวเลวีจึงไม่ต้องแบกพลับพลาและเครื่องใช้สำหรับงานในพลับพลาอีก”
26and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service thereof.'
27ตามคำสั่งสุดท้ายของดาวิด จึงนับชาวเลวีตั้งแต่อายุ 20 ปีขึ้นไป
27For by the last ordinances of David the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward.
28หน้าที่ของพวกเขาคือช่วยลูกหลานอาโรนในงานพระวิหารของพระยาห์เวห์ ทั้งดูแลลาน ห้องต่าง ๆ การชำระสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ทั้งหมด และงานอื่น ๆ ในพระวิหารของพระเจ้า
28For their station was at the side of the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God;

30and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even;

31and to offer all burnt-offerings unto the LORD, on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and in the appointed seasons, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually, before the LORD;
32พวกเขารับผิดชอบงานของกระโจมแห่งการนัดพบ งานในสถานศักดิ์สิทธิ์ และช่วยลูกหลานอาโรนญาติของตนในงานพระวิหารของพระยาห์เวห์
32and that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, for the service of the house of the LORD.
