Proverbs 5
JPS Tanakh (Jewish Publication Society, 1917)
Baibala Hemolele (Hawaiian Bible, 1868 revision)
1My son, attend unto my wisdom; incline thine ear to my understanding;
1E KUU keiki, e hoolohe mai i ko'u naauao, E haliu mai hoi kou pepeiao i ko'u iko:
2That thou mayest preserve discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
2I malama oe i ke aoia mai, E hoopaa hoi kou mau lehelehe i ka ike.
3For the lips of a strange woman drop honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;
3No ka mea, o na lehelehe o ka wahine hookamakama he meli ia e kulu ana, A ua oi aku ka pahee o kona waha i ko ka aila.
4But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
4Aka, na awahia kona hope, e like me ka laau awaawa, Oioi hoi o like me ka pahikaua oi lua.
5Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on the nether-world;
5Ke iho iho la kona mau wawae i ka make, E pili ana hoi kona mau kapuwai i ka lua,
6Lest she should walk the even path of life, her ways wander, but she knoweth it not.
6I ole oe e noonoo i ke ala o ko ola, He loli wale kona noho ana i ole oe e ike aku.
7Now therefore, O ye children, hearken unto me, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
7Ano la, e na keiki, hoolohe mai ia'u, Mai haliu ae mai ka olelo aku a kuu waha.
8Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house;
8E hooneenee loa aku i kou hele ana mai ona aku, Mai hookokoke aku oe i ka puka o kona hale:
9Lest thou give thy vigour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel;
9O haawi oe i kou nani i na mea e, A me kon mau makahiki hoi i ka mea aloha ole:
10Lest strangers be filled with thy strength, and thy labours be in the house of an alien;
10O lako hoi na mea e i kou mau mea maikai; A me na hale o ka malihini i kau waiwai;
11And thou moan, when thine end cometh, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
11A uwe oe i kou hope, I ka pau ana o kou io a me kou kino;
12And say: 'How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
12A e olelo hoi, Auwe ko'u inaina aku i ka ike, A me ka hoowahawaha ana o ko'u naau i ke aoia mai!
13Neither have I hearkened to the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
13Aole au i hoolohe i ka leo o ka'u mau kumu, Aole hoi i haliu aku ko'u pepeiao i ka poe i ao mai ia'u!
14I was well nigh in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.'
14Mai noho au ma na hewa a pau loa, Mawaena o ke anaina a me ka ahakanaka.
15Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
15E ia u oe i ka wai noloko ae o kou punawai, A i na waikahe hoi noloko ae o kou kahawai.
16Let thy springs be dispersed abroad, and courses of water in the streets.
16E hu aku iwaho kou mau lokowai, A kahe na auwai ma na alanui.
17Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
17Nau wale iho no lakou, Aole na ka poe malihini pu me oe.
18Let thy fountain be blessed; and have joy of the wife of thy youth.
18E hoomaikaiia kou punawai; A e olioli oe me ka wahine o kou wa ui.
19A lovely hind and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; with her love be thou ravished always.
19He dia aloha ia a me ka ibeka oluolu; E maona oe i na la a pau i kona waiu, E ana mau oe i kona aloha.
20Why then wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of an alien?
20No ke aha la e ona oe, e kuu keiki, i ka wahine e, A e apo oe i ka wahine a hai ma kou umauma?
21For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He maketh even all his paths.
21No ka mea, e kau pono ana na maka o Iehova i ka aoao o ke kanaka, E ike ana no hoi i kona mau aoao a pau,
22His own iniquities shall ensnare the wicked, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sin.
22E puni ka mea hewa i kona hala iho, E heiia hoi oia i ka hei o kona hewa iho.
23He shall die for lack of instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall reel.
23E make oia me ke ao ole ia mai; A e hele hewa oia i ka nui o kona naaupo ana.
