1Paul, an apostle, not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead,
1人々によってでも、人を通してでもなく、イエス・キリストと、キリストを死者の中からよみがえらせた父なる神とによって使徒とされたパウロから、
2And all the brethren who are with me, to the churches of Galatia.
2また、私と共にいるすべての兄弟たちから、ガラテヤの諸教会へ。
3Grace be to you, and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
3私たちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安があなたがたにありますように。
4Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present wicked world, according to the will of God and our Father:
4キリストは、私たちの神であり父である方のみこころに従い、今の悪い時代から私たちを救い出すため、私たちの罪のためにご自身をささげてくださいました。
5To whom is glory for ever and ever. Amen.
5この方に、栄光が世々限りなくありますように。アーメン。
6I wonder that you are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ, unto another gospel.
6あなたがたが、キリストの恵みによって召してくださった方からこんなにも早く離れ、別の「福音」へ移っていくことに、私は驚いています。
7Which is not another, only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
7しかし、ほかに福音があるわけではありません。ただ、あなたがたをかき乱し、キリストの福音をゆがめようとする者たちがいるのです。
8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema.
8たとえ私たちであろうと、天からの御使いであろうと、私たちがあなたがたに宣べ伝えたものとは異なる「福音」を宣べ伝えるなら、その者は呪われよ。
9As we said before, so now I say again: If any one preach to you a gospel, besides that which you have received, let him be anathema.
9以前にも言ったとおり、今もう一度言います。あなたがたが受け入れたものとは異なる「福音」を宣べ伝える者がいるなら、その者は呪われよ。
10For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? If I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
10私は今、人々の好意を得ようとしているのでしょうか。それとも、神の好意を得ようとしているのでしょうか。あるいは、人々を喜ばせようとしているのでしょうか。もし今も人々を喜ばせようとしているなら、私はキリストの僕ではありません。
11For I give you to understand, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.
11兄弟たち、私が宣べ伝えた福音について、あなたがたにはっきり知らせておきます。それは人間から出たものではありません。
12For neither did I receive it of man, nor did I learn it; but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
12私はそれを人から受けたのでも、人に教えられたのでもなく、イエス・キリストの啓示によって受けたのです。
13For you have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion: how that, beyond measure, I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it.
13あなたがたは、私がかつてユダヤ教に従っていたころ、どのように生きていたかを聞いています。私は神の教会を激しく迫害し、荒らし回っていました。
14And I made progress in the Jews’ religion above many of my equals in my own nation, being more abundantly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.
14また、同胞の中の同年代の多くの者よりもユダヤ教に抜きん出ており、先祖から受け継いだ伝承に、ひときわ熱心でした。
15But when it pleased him, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace,
15しかし、母の胎内にいた時から私を選び分け、恵みによって召してくださった神が、
16To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the Gentiles, immediately I condescended not to flesh and blood.
16御子を私のうちに現し、私がその方を異邦人の間に宣べ伝えることをよしとされた時、私はすぐに人間に相談することも、
17Neither went I to Jerusalem, to the apostles who were before me: but I went into Arabia, and again I returned to Damascus.
17私より先に使徒となった人々に会うためエルサレムへ上ることもしませんでした。かえってアラビアへ行き、その後ダマスコに戻りました。
18Then, after three years, I went to Jerusalem, to see Peter, and I tarried with him fifteen days.
18それから三年後、私はペテロを訪ねるためエルサレムへ上り、十五日間彼のもとに滞在しました。
19But other of the apostles I saw none, saving James the brother of the Lord.
19しかし、主の兄弟ヤコブ以外には、ほかの使徒のだれにも会いませんでした。
20Now the things which I write to you, behold, before God, I lie not.
20私があなたがたに書いていることについて、見よ、神の御前で断言しますが、私は偽りを語っていません。
21Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.
21その後、私はシリアとキリキアの地方へ行きました。
22And I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea, which were in Christ:
22そのころ、キリストにあるユダヤの諸教会には、私はまだ直接には知られていませんでした。
23But they had heard only: He, who persecuted us in times past, doth now preach the faith which once he impugned:
23ただ、「以前私たちを迫害していた者が、かつて滅ぼそうとしていた信仰を、今は宣べ伝えている」と聞いていただけでした。
24And they glorified God in me.
24そこで彼らは、私のことで神をあがめました。
