1O časích pak a chvílech, bratří, nepotřebujete, aby vám psáno bylo.
1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2Nebo vy sami výborně víte, že ten den Páně jako zloděj v noci, tak přijde.
2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3Neb když dějí: Pokoj a bezpečnost, tedy rychle přijde na ně zahynutí, jako bolest ženě těhotné, a neujdouť toho.
3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4Ale vy, bratří, nejste ve tmě, aby vás ten den jako zloděj zachvátil.
4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5Všickni vy synové světla jste a synové dne; nejsmeť synové noci, ani tmy.
5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6Nespěmež tedy, jako i jiní, ale bděme a střízliví buďme.
6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7Nebo kteříž spí, v noci spí, a kteříž se opíjejí, v noci opilí jsou.
7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8Ale my, synové dne jsouce, střízliví buďme, oblečeni jsouce v pancíř víry a lásky, a v lebku, jenž jest naděje spasení.
8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9Nebo nepostavil nás Bůh k hněvu, ale k nabytí spasení, skrze Pána našeho Jezukrista,
9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10Kterýž umřel za nás, abychom, buďto že bdíme, buďto že spíme, spolu s ním živi byli.
10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11Protož napomínejte se vespolek, a vzdělávejte jeden druhého, jakož i činíte.
11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
12A prosímeť vás, bratří, znejtež ty, kteříž pracují mezi vámi, a předloženi jsou vám v Pánu, a napomínají vás,
12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
13A velice je milujte pro práci jejich. A mějte se k sobě vespolek pokojně.
13And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
14A prosímeť vás, bratří, napomínejte z řádu vystupujících, potěšujte choulostivých, snášejte mdlé, trpělivě se mějte ke všechněm.
14Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men .
15Vizte, aby někdo zlého za zlé neodplacoval, ale vždycky účinnosti dokazujte, i k sobě vespolek i ke všechněm.
15See that none render evil for evil unto any man ; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men .
16Vždycky se radujte,
16Rejoice evermore.
17Bez přestání se modlte,
17Pray without ceasing.
18Ze všeho díky čiňte; nebo ta jest vůle Boží v Kristu Ježíši, aby se tak dálo od vás.
18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19Ducha neuhašujte,
19Quench not the Spirit.
20Proroctvím nepohrdejte,
20Despise not prophesyings.
21Všeho zkuste; což dobrého jest, toho se držte.
21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22Od všeliké zlé tvárnosti se varujte.
22Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23On pak Bůh pokoje posvětiž vás ve všem, a celý váš duch i duše i tělo bez úhony ku příští Pána našeho Jezukrista zachováno budiž.
23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24Věrnýť jest ten, jenž povolal vás, kterýž také i učiní to.
24Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
25Bratří, modlte se za nás.
25Brethren, pray for us.
26Pozdravte všech bratří v políbením svatém.
26Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
27Zavazujiť vás skrze Pána, aby čten byl list tento všechněm bratřím svatým.
27I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
28Milost Pána našeho Jezukrista budiž s vámi. Amen. List první k Tessalonicenským psán jest v Aténách.
28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
