JPS Tanakh (Jewish Publication Society, 1917)
1Palungha nongpata loe a ohhaih im to sak; toe kamthu nongpata loe a im to a phraek.
1Every wise woman buildeth her house; but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
2Angraeng zii kami loe katoeng loklam ah caeh; toe loklam amkhraeng kami loe Angraeng to khet patoek tihhaih ih ni.
2He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD; but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth Him.
3Kamthu ih pakha loe amoekhaih quiboeng ah oh; toe palungha kami ih pahni mah loe nihcae to pahlong tih.
3In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
4Maitaw om ai ahmuen ih maitaw okduk loe cai pin; toe maitaw ih tha hoiah cang to a hak mangh.
4Where no oxen are, the crib is clean; but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5Oep kaom hnukung loe kaminawk to aling ai; toe amsawn hnukung loe lok amlai.
5A faithful witness will not lie; but a false witness breatheth forth lies.
6Minawk hnaphnae kami loe palunghahaih to pakrong, toe hnu ai; toe panoekhaih tawn kami hanah loe palungha zoidaek.
6A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not; but knowledge is easy unto him that hath discernment.
7Anih ih pahni ah palunghahaih om ai tiah na panoek nahaeloe, kamthu to om taak duem ah.
7Go from the presence of a foolish man, for thou wilt not perceive the lips of knowledge.
8Palungha kami loe a caehhaih loklam to palunghahaih hoiah poek; toe kamthu ih amthuhaih loe alinghaih ah oh.
8The wisdom of the prudent is to look well to his way; but the folly of fools is deceit.
9Kamthu loe zaehaih to tiah doeh sah ai; toe katoeng kaminawk khaeah loe tahmenhaih to oh.
9Amends pleadeth for fools; but among the upright there is good will.
10Palung mah palungsethaih to panoek; mi mah doeh angmah anghoehaih to minawk han paek thai ai.
10The heart knoweth its own bitterness; and with its joy no stranger can intermeddle.
11Kasae kami ih im loe amro tih; toe katoeng kami ih kahni im loe aquih tacawt tih.
11The house of the wicked shall be overthrown; but the tent of the upright shall flourish.
12Kami maeto khaeah katoeng loklam maeto baktiah amtueng pae; toe boenghaih ah loe duekhaih loklam ah oh.
12There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
13Palungsethaih amtueng han ai ah pahnui kami doeh om tih; anghoehaih doeh palungsethaih hoiah boeng thaih.
13Even in laughter the heart acheth; and the end of mirth is heaviness.
14Hnuk angnawn kami loe a tok sakhaih atho to hnu tih; toe kahoih kami loe a sak ih hmuen baktih toengah tangqum to hnu tih.
14The dissembler in heart shall have his fill from his own ways; and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
15Poek tawn ai kami loe minawk mah thuih ih loknawk boih to tang; toe palungha kami loe a caehhaih loklam to kahoih ah poek.
15The thoughtless believeth every word; but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
16Palungha kami loe Angraeng to zit moe, sethaih to cawn taak; toe kamthu loe poekham moe misahoih.
16A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil; but the fool behaveth overbearingly, and is confident.
17Poek amthueng kami loe amthuhaih hoiah toksak; kahoih ai hmuen sak pacaeng kami loe minawk mah hnuma tih.
17He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly; and a man of wicked devices is hated.
18Poekhaih tawn ai kami loe amthuhaih to qawk ah toep; toe palungha kaminawk loe palunghahaih lumuek to angmuek o.
18The thoughtless come into possession of folly; but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19Kahoih ai kami loe katoeng kami hmaa ah angam sut tih; kasae kami doeh katoeng kami ih khongkha taengah angam sut tih.
19The evil bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20Amtang kami loe a imtaeng kami mah doeh hnukma; toe angraeng loe ampui tawn mangh.
20The poor is hated even of his own neighbour; but the rich hath many friends.
21Kami zae loe a imtaeng kami to khet patoek; toe kamtang tahmen kami loe tahamhoih.
21He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth; but he that is gracious unto the humble, happy is he.
22Sethaih poek kaminawk loe loklam caeh pazae o boeh na ai maw? Toe kahoih hmuen poek kaminawk loe amlunghaih hoi oepthohhaih to hnuk o.
22Shall they not go astray that devise evil? But mercy and truth shall be for them that devise good.
23Toksakhaih boih ah toksakhaih atho to oh; toe lok khue thui kami loe amtang tih.
23In all labour there is profit; but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
24Palungha kaminawk ih angraenghaih loe angmacae ih sui lumuek ah oh; toe kamthunawk amthuhaih mah loe amthuhaih to tacawtsak aep.
24The crown of the wise is their riches; but the folly of fools remaineth folly.
25Tangtang hnukung mah loe hinghaih to pahlong; toe amsawn hnukung ah kaom kami loe amsawnlok to thuih.
25A true witness delivereth souls; but he that breatheth forth lies is all deceit.
26Angraeng zii kami loe kacak oephaih to tawn ueloe, a caanawk abuephaih ahmuen doeh tawn tih.
26In the fear of the LORD a man hath strong confidence; and his children shall have a place of refuge.
27Angraeng zithaih loe hinghaih tuipuek ah oh moe, duekhaih dongh thung hoiah loisakkung ah oh.
27The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
28Kami pop prae thungah loe siangpahrang lensawkhaih to cak; toe kami tamsi prae ah loe siangpahrang amrohaih ah oh.
28In the multitude of people is the king's glory; but in the want of people is the ruin of the prince.
29Panoekhaih kathuk kami loe palungsawk; toe poek amthueng kami loe amthuhaih to amtuengsak.
29He that is slow to anger is of great understanding; but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
30Poekhoih palung mah taksa to ngantuisak; toe uthaih mah loe huhong to hmawnsak.
30A tranquil heart is the life of the flesh; but envy is the rottenness of the bones.
31Kamtang pacaekthlaek kami loe angmah Sahkung to ni pacaekthlaek; toe Sithaw khingya kami loe kamtang nuiah palungnathaih to tawnh.
31He that oppresseth the poor blasphemeth his Maker; but he that is gracious unto the needy honoureth Him.
32Kasae kami loe a sethaih mah kraksak tathuk; toe katoeng kami loe duek naah doeh oephaih to tawnh.
32The wicked is thrust down in his misfortune; but the righteous, even when he is brought to death, hath hope.
33Palungha kami ih palung thungah palunghahaih to oh; toe kamthu ih palung thungah kaom hmuen loe amtueng phaeng.
33In the heart of him that hath discernment wisdom resteth; but in the inward part of fools it maketh itself known.
34Toenghaih mah prae kaminawk to sangsak tahang; toe zaehaih loe kami boih kasaethuihaih ah oh.
34Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people.
35Siangpahrang loe palungha tamna nuiah anghoe; toe azatsak thaih tamna loe angraeng to palungphuisak.
35The king's favour is toward a servant that dealeth wisely; but his wrath striketh him that dealeth shamefully.
