1Imthung koi mongah sak ih angbawnhaih buh to angzoehhaih hoiah caak pongah loe, buh karoem zetta poek monghaih hoiah caak to hoih kue.
1Better is a dry morsel and quietness therewith, than a house full of feasting with strife.
2Palungha tamna loe kahoih ai imkung ih capa to uk tih, anih loe a caanawk hoi nawnto qawk to toep tih.
2A servant that dealeth wisely shall have rule over a son that dealeth shamefully, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
3Sumkanglung tui pacii hanah laom to patoh baktih toengah, sui tui pacii hanah hmai kamngaeh to patoh; toe Angraeng loe kami ih palung to tanoem.
3The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but the LORD trieth the hearts.
4Kahoih ai hmuen sah kami loe lok amlai kami mah thuih ih lok to tang; amsawnlok thui kami doeh loksae to tahngaih.
4A evil-doer giveth heed to wicked lips; and a liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.
5Mithoe hnaphnae kami loe anih Sahkung hnaphnae kami ah ni oh; minawk raihaih tong naah anghoe kami loe danpaekhaih to loih mak ai.
5Whoso mocketh the poor blasphemeth his Maker; and he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
6Caanawk ih caa patoeng loe mitongnawk hanah sui lumuek ah oh, amno ampa loe caanawk lensawkhaih ah oh.
6Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
7Kahoih lok loe kamthu hoi amcuk ai baktih toengah, amsawnlok doeh ukkung angraeng hoi amcuk ai.
7Overbearing speech becometh not a churl; much less do lying lips a prince.
8Tangqum loe hak kami hanah atho kana thlung baktiah oh; a caehhaih ahmuen kruekah, tahamhoihaih oh.
8A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it; whithersoever he turneth, he prospereth.
9Minawk zaehaih tahmen kami loe amlunghaih to pungsak; toe zaehaih tahmen ai kami loe ampui to ampraeksak.
9He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that harpeth on a matter estrangeth a familiar friend.
10Kamthu loe quiboeng hoi cumvaito boh cadoeh poek amkhrai mak ai; palungha loe thuitaekhaih lok to thaih kop.
10A rebuke entereth deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred stripes into a fool.
11Kahoih ai kami loe lokaek han khue ni pakrong; to pongah tahmenhaih tawn ai laicaeh to anih khaeah patoeh tih.
11A rebellious man seeketh only evil; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12Palungkraeng kamthu khaeah caeh moe, raihaih tong pongah loe, taqom caa lomh pae to hoih kue.
12Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13Hmuenhoih to hmuensae hoiah pathok kami loe, kahoih ai hmuen mah a im to caehtaak mak ai.
13Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14Angzoehhaih loe kamsah tui hoiah anghmong; to pongah angzoehhaih om ai naah to hmuen to toengh sut ah.
14The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water; therefore leave off contention, before the quarrel break out.
15Zaehaih sah kami to loisak lat kami, to tih ai boeh loe katoeng kami zaehaih net lat kami hnik to Angraeng mah panuet hmaek.
15He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, even they both are an abomination to the LORD.
16Kamthu loe palunghahaih koeh ai pongah, kamthu ban ah paek ih phoisa loe tih atho maw oh?
16Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, seeing he hath no understanding?
17Ampui loe amlunghaih tawnh poe; nawkamya loe karai tonghaih atue nathuem han ih ni tapen.
17A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18Poekhaih tawn ai kami loe coi ih phoisa to pathok pae hanah, angmah ih ampui hmaa ah lokkamhaih to sak.
18A man void of understanding is he that striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his neighbour.
19Angzoeh koeh kami loe zae sakhaih doeh koeh; angmah ih khongkha amoek haih kami loe amrohaih ni pakrong.
19He loveth transgression that loveth strife; he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
20Poektoeng ai kami loe khosak hoihaih tawn ai; amsawnlok thui palai loe raihaih tongh.
20He that hath a froward heart findeth no good; and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into evil.
21Kamthu tapen kami loe tapenkung to palungsetsak; kamthu ih ampa loe anghoehaih tawn ai.
21He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow; and the father of a churl hath no joy.
22Poeknawmhaih loe kahoih tasi ah oh; toe palungsethaih mah ahuh to zaeksak.
22A merry heart is a good medicine; but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
23Kasae kami loe toenghaih loklam angkawnsak hanah, bokhaih ah paek ih tangqum to lak.
23A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom, to pervert the ways of justice.
24Palungha kami loe panoekhaih to tawnh; toe kamthu ih mik loe long boenghaih khoek to khet parui.
24Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25Capa kamthu mah ampa palungsetsak, anih cunkung to palungboengsak.
25A foolish son is vexation to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
26Katoeng kami to danpaek han hoih ai; toenghaih hoiah lokcaek angraeng doeh danpaek han om ai.
26To punish also the righteous is not good, nor to strike the noble for their uprightness.
27Palungha kami loe poek het pacoengah ni lok to thuih; panoekhaih tawn kami loe angam duem.
27He that spareth his words hath knowledge; and he that husbandeth his spirit is a man of discernment.
28Lokpae ai ah om duem kami loe, kamthu mataeng doeh palungha kami ah poek o moe, palai angsum thaih kami doeh khopoek thaih kami ah poek o.
28Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise; and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed as a man of understanding.
