1ในเดือนที่ 3 หลังจากชาวอิสราเอลออกจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์ ในวันเดียวกันนั้นพวกเขามาถึงถิ่นทุรกันดารซีนาย
1In the third month after the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.
2พวกเขาออกจากเรฟีดิมมาถึงถิ่นทุรกันดารซีนาย แล้วตั้งค่ายอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารนั้น อิสราเอลตั้งค่ายอยู่หน้าภูเขา
2And when they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mount.
3โมเสสขึ้นไปหาพระเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์เรียกเขาจากภูเขาว่า “จงบอกวงศ์วานยาโคบและชาวอิสราเอลดังนี้
3And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying: 'Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
4‘พวกเจ้าได้เห็นแล้วว่าเราทำอะไรกับชาวอียิปต์ และเราโอบอุ้มพวกเจ้าไว้บนปีกนกอินทรี พามาหาเราเองอย่างไร
4Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto Myself.
5บัดนี้ ถ้าพวกเจ้าฟังเสียงเราอย่างแท้จริงและรักษาพันธสัญญาของเรา พวกเจ้าจะเป็นสมบัติล้ำค่าของเราท่ามกลางชนชาติทั้งปวง เพราะทั่วทั้งแผ่นดินโลกเป็นของเรา
5Now therefore, if ye will hearken unto My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be Mine own treasure from among all peoples; for all the earth is Mine;
6และพวกเจ้าจะเป็นอาณาจักรแห่งปุโรหิตและเป็นชนชาติศักดิ์สิทธิ์สำหรับเรา’ นี่คือถ้อยคำที่เจ้าต้องบอกชาวอิสราเอล”
6and ye shall be unto Me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.'
7โมเสสจึงไปเรียกผู้อาวุโสของประชาชนมา แล้วบอกถ้อยคำทั้งหมดที่พระยาห์เวห์สั่งเขาไว้
7And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the LORD commanded him.
8ประชาชนทั้งหมดตอบพร้อมกันว่า “ทุกสิ่งที่พระยาห์เวห์ตรัส พวกเราจะทำ” โมเสสจึงนำคำตอบของประชาชนไปบอกพระยาห์เวห์
8And all the people answered together, and said: 'All that the LORD hath spoken we will do.' And Moses reported the words of the people unto the LORD.
9พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า “ดูสิ เราจะมาหาเจ้าในเมฆหนาทึบ เพื่อประชาชนจะได้ยินเมื่อเราพูดกับเจ้า และจะเชื่อเจ้าเสมอไป” แล้วโมเสสบอกถ้อยคำของประชาชนต่อพระยาห์เวห์
9And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and may also believe thee for ever.' And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.
10พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า “จงไปหาประชาชน ชำระพวกเขาให้ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ในวันนี้และพรุ่งนี้ แล้วให้พวกเขาซักเสื้อผ้า
10And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go unto the people, and sanctify them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their garments,
11และเตรียมพร้อมสำหรับวันที่ 3 เพราะในวันที่ 3 พระยาห์เวห์จะลงมาบนภูเขาซีนายให้ประชาชนทั้งหมดเห็น
11and be ready against the third day; for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
12เจ้าต้องกำหนดเขตห้ามประชาชนเข้าโดยรอบภูเขา แล้วบอกว่า ‘ระวังอย่าขึ้นไปบนภูเขาหรือแตะต้องขอบเขตของมัน ใครก็ตามหรือสัตว์ตัวใดที่แตะต้องภูเขาจะต้องตายอย่างแน่นอน
12And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying: Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it; whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death;
13ห้ามใช้มือแตะตัวนั้น แต่ต้องเอาหินขว้างหรือยิงให้ทะลุจนตาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นสัตว์หรือคนก็ห้ามไว้ชีวิต’ เมื่อเสียงแตรดังยาว พวกเขาจึงจะขึ้นมาที่ภูเขาได้”
13no hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live; when the ram's horn soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.'
14โมเสสลงจากภูเขามาหาประชาชน ชำระพวกเขาให้ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ และพวกเขาก็ซักเสื้อผ้า
14And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their garments.
15เขาบอกประชาชนว่า “เตรียมตัวให้พร้อมภายในวันที่ 3 และอย่ามีเพศสัมพันธ์กับผู้หญิง”
15And he said unto the people: 'Be ready against the third day; come not near a woman.'
16เช้าวันที่ 3 มีเสียงฟ้าร้อง ฟ้าแลบ และเมฆหนาทึบบนภูเขา เสียงแตรดังสนั่นมาก จนประชาชนทุกคนในค่ายตัวสั่น
16And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of a horn exceeding loud; and all the people that were in the camp trembled.
17โมเสสพาประชาชนออกจากค่ายไปพบพระเจ้า พวกเขายืนอยู่ตรงเชิงภูเขา
17And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.
18ภูเขาซีนายทั้งลูกมีควัน เพราะพระยาห์เวห์ลงมาเหนือภูเขาด้วยไฟ ควันลอยขึ้นเหมือนควันจากเตาเผา และภูเขาทั้งลูกสั่นสะเทือนอย่างรุนแรง
18Now mount Sinai was altogether on smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
19เสียงแตรดังขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ โมเสสพูด และพระเจ้าตอบเขาด้วยเสียง
19And when the voice of the horn waxed louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.
20พระยาห์เวห์ลงมาบนยอดภูเขาซีนาย แล้วเรียกโมเสสขึ้นไปบนยอดภูเขา โมเสสก็ขึ้นไป
20And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, to the top of the mount; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.
21พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า “ลงไปเตือนประชาชน อย่าให้พวกเขาฝ่าเข้ามาหาพระยาห์เวห์เพื่อมองดู มิฉะนั้นหลายคนจะต้องตาย
21And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.
22แม้แต่พวกปุโรหิตที่เข้ามาใกล้พระยาห์เวห์ก็ต้องชำระตัวให้ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ มิฉะนั้นพระยาห์เวห์จะลงโทษพวกเขาอย่างฉับพลัน”
22And let the priests also, that come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.'
23โมเสสพูดกับพระยาห์เวห์ว่า “ประชาชนขึ้นมาบนภูเขาซีนายไม่ได้ เพราะพระองค์เตือนพวกเราไว้แล้วว่า ‘จงกำหนดเขตรอบภูเขาและทำให้ภูเขานั้นเป็นที่ศักดิ์สิทธิ์’”
23And Moses said unto the LORD: 'The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou didst charge us, saying: Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.'
24พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับเขาว่า “ลงไป! แล้วพาอาโรนขึ้นมากับเจ้า แต่อย่าให้พวกปุโรหิตกับประชาชนฝ่าเข้ามาเพื่อขึ้นมาหาพระยาห์เวห์ มิฉะนั้นพระองค์จะลงโทษพวกเขาอย่างฉับพลัน”
24And the LORD said unto him: 'Go, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee; but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest He break forth upon them.'
25โมเสสจึงลงไปหาประชาชนและบอกพวกเขา
25So Moses went down unto the people, and told them.
