1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
1ดูสิว่าพระบิดาประทานความรักแก่เรามากเพียงใด ถึงกับให้เราได้ชื่อว่าเป็นลูกของพระเจ้า! เพราะเหตุนี้ โลกจึงไม่รู้จักเรา เพราะโลกไม่รู้จักพระองค์
2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
2ที่รักทั้งหลาย ตอนนี้เราเป็นลูกของพระเจ้าแล้ว แต่ยังไม่ปรากฏว่าเราจะเป็นอย่างไร เรารู้ว่าเมื่อพระองค์ปรากฏ เราจะเป็นเหมือนพระองค์ เพราะเราจะเห็นพระองค์อย่างที่พระองค์เป็น
3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
3ทุกคนที่มีความหวังเช่นนี้ในพระองค์ ก็ชำระตนให้บริสุทธิ์ เช่นเดียวกับที่พระองค์บริสุทธิ์
4Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
4ทุกคนที่ทำบาปก็ฝ่าฝืนกฎด้วย บาปคือการฝ่าฝืนกฎ
5And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
5พวกคุณรู้ว่าพระองค์ปรากฏมาเพื่อเอาบาปของเราไป และในพระองค์ไม่มีบาป
6Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
6ทุกคนที่คงอยู่ในพระองค์ไม่ทำบาป คนที่ทำบาปไม่เคยเห็นพระองค์ และไม่รู้จักพระองค์
7Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
7ลูก ๆ อย่าให้ใครชักนำพวกคุณให้หลงผิด คนที่ทำสิ่งที่ชอบธรรมก็เป็นคนชอบธรรม เช่นเดียวกับที่พระองค์ชอบธรรม
8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
8คนที่ทำบาปเป็นฝ่ายมาร เพราะมารทำบาปมาตั้งแต่แรกเริ่ม พระบุตรของพระเจ้าปรากฏมาเพื่อเหตุนี้ คือเพื่อทำลายการงานของมาร
9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
9ทุกคนที่เกิดจากพระเจ้าไม่ทำบาป เพราะเชื้อของพระองค์คงอยู่ในเขา และเขาทำบาปไม่ได้ เพราะเขาเกิดจากพระเจ้า
10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
10ลูกของพระเจ้าและลูกของมารปรากฏให้เห็นได้อย่างนี้: ทุกคนที่ไม่ทำสิ่งที่ชอบธรรมไม่ได้มาจากพระเจ้า และคนที่ไม่รักพี่น้องของตนก็เช่นกัน
11For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
11เพราะนี่คือข่าวสารที่พวกคุณได้ยินตั้งแต่แรกเริ่ม คือให้เรารักกันและกัน
12Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
12ไม่ใช่อย่างคาอิน ผู้เป็นฝ่ายผู้ชั่วร้ายและฆ่าพี่น้องของตน ทำไมเขาจึงฆ่าพี่น้องคนนั้น? เพราะการกระทำของเขาชั่ว แต่การกระทำของพี่น้องคนนั้นชอบธรรม
13Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
13พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้า อย่าแปลกใจถ้าโลกเกลียดพวกคุณ
14We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
14เรารู้ว่าเราผ่านพ้นจากความตายเข้าสู่ชีวิตแล้ว เพราะเรารักพี่น้อง คนที่ไม่รักพี่น้องของตนยังคงอยู่ในความตาย
15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
15ทุกคนที่เกลียดพี่น้องของตนเป็นฆาตกร และพวกคุณรู้ว่าไม่มีฆาตกรคนใดมีชีวิตนิรันดร์คงอยู่ในตัวเขา
16Hereby perceive we the love of God , because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
16เรารู้จักความรักได้อย่างนี้: เพราะพระองค์สละชีวิตเพื่อเรา และเราก็ควรสละชีวิตเพื่อพี่น้อง
17But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
17แต่ถ้าใครมีทรัพย์สินในโลกนี้ และเห็นพี่น้องของตนขัดสน แต่กลับปิดใจไม่ยอมเมตตาเขา ความรักของพระเจ้าจะคงอยู่ในคนนั้นได้อย่างไร?
18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
18ลูก ๆ ของข้าพเจ้า อย่ารักกันเพียงด้วยคำพูดหรือเพียงปากเปล่า แต่จงรักกันด้วยการกระทำและความจริง
19And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
19จากสิ่งนี้ เราจึงรู้ว่าเราเป็นฝ่ายความจริง และทำให้ใจของเรามั่นใจต่อหน้าพระองค์
20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
20เพราะถ้าใจของเรากล่าวโทษเรา พระเจ้าก็ยิ่งใหญ่กว่าใจของเราและรู้ทุกสิ่ง
21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
21ที่รักทั้งหลาย ถ้าใจของเราไม่กล่าวโทษเรา เราก็มีความมั่นใจต่อพระเจ้า
22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
22และสิ่งใดที่เราขอ เราก็ได้รับจากพระองค์ เพราะเราปฏิบัติตามพระบัญชาของพระองค์ และทำสิ่งที่พระองค์พอใจ
23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
23พระบัญชาของพระองค์คือ ให้เราเชื่อในพระนามของพระบุตรของพระองค์ คือพระเยซูคริสต์ และรักกันและกัน ตามที่พระองค์สั่งเรา
24And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
24คนที่ปฏิบัติตามพระบัญชาของพระองค์ก็คงอยู่ในพระองค์ และพระองค์ก็คงอยู่ในคนนั้น เรารู้ว่าพระองค์คงอยู่ในเราได้จากพระวิญญาณที่พระองค์ประทานแก่เรา
