1(2-2) Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly.
1それからヨナは、魚の腹の中から、自分の神である主に祈った。
2(2-3) And he said: I called out of mine affliction unto the LORD, and He answered me; out of the belly of the nether-world cried I, and Thou heardest my voice.
2彼は言った。 「苦しみの中から主に叫び求めると、 主は私に答えてくださった。 よみの腹から助けを求めて叫ぶと、 あなたは私の声を聞いてくださった。
3(2-4) For Thou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas, and the flood was round about me; all Thy waves and Thy billows passed over me.
3あなたは私を深みへ、 海のただ中へ投げ込まれた。 大水が私を取り囲み、 あなたのすべての波と大波が、私の上を越えて行った。
4(2-5) And I said: 'I am cast out from before Thine eyes'; yet I will look again toward Thy holy temple.
4私は言った。『私はあなたの目の前から追い払われた。 それでも、もう一度あなたの聖なる宮を仰ぎ見よう。』
5(2-6) The waters compassed me about, even to the soul; the deep was round about me; the weeds were wrapped about my head.
5水は私を取り囲み、 命にまで迫った。 深い淵が私を包み、 海藻が私の頭に絡みついた。
6(2-7) I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars closed upon me for ever; yet hast Thou brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.
6私は山々の根元まで下った。 地はそのかんぬきを下ろし、永遠に私を閉じ込めた。 しかし、私の神、主よ、あなたは私の命を穴から引き上げてくださった。
7(2-8) When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came in unto Thee, into Thy holy temple.
7命が尽きようとした時、私は主を思い出した。 私の祈りはあなたのもとへ、あなたの聖なる宮へ届いた。
8(2-9) They that regard lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
8空しい偶像に心を留める者たちは、自らに差し伸べられた慈しみを捨てる。
9(2-10) But I will sacrifice unto Thee with the voice of thanksgiving; that which I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is of the LORD.
9しかし私は感謝の声をもって、あなたにいけにえをささげる。 誓ったことを果たす。 救いは主のものだ。」
10(2-11) And the LORD spoke unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
10すると主は魚に命じられた。魚はヨナを乾いた地に吐き出した。
