1主はアブラムに言われた。「あなたの国、あなたの親族、あなたの父の家を離れて、わたしがあなたに示す地へ行きなさい。
1Now the LORD said unto Abram: 'Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto the land that I will show thee.
2わたしはあなたを大いなる民族とし、あなたを祝福し、あなたの名を大いなるものとする。あなたは祝福となれ。
2And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing.
3わたしは、あなたを祝福する者を祝福し、あなたを侮る者を呪う。地上のすべての家族は、あなたによって祝福される。」
3And I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse; and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.'
4こうしてアブラムは、主が彼に言われたとおりに出発した。ロトも彼と一緒に行った。ハランを出発したとき、アブラムは七十五歳であった。
4So Abram went, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him; and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5アブラムは、妻サライ、兄弟の息子ロト、自分たちが集めたすべての財産、ハランで得た人々を連れて行った。彼らはカナンの地へ向かって出発し、カナンの地に入った。
5And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
6アブラムはその地を通り抜け、シェケムの場所、モレの樫の木に至った。その当時、カナン人がその地にいた。
6And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Shechem, unto the terebinth of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7主はアブラムに現れて言われた。「わたしはこの地をあなたの子孫に与える。」彼は、自分に現れた主のために、そこに祭壇を築いた。
7And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said: 'Unto thy seed will I give this land'; and he builded there an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
8彼はそこからベテルの東にある山へ進み、天幕を張った。西にはベテル、東にはアイがあった。彼はそこに主のための祭壇を築き、主の御名を呼び求めた。
8And he removed from thence unto the mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Ai on the east; and he builded there an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
9アブラムは旅を続け、さらに南へと進んでいった。
9And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.
10その地に飢饉があった。その地の飢饉が激しかったので、アブラムは寄留者として住むためにエジプトへ下って行った。
10And there was a famine in the land; and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was sore in the land.
11彼がエジプトに入ろうとして近づいたとき、妻サライに言った。「見よ、あなたが美しい女性であることを、私はよく知っている。
11And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife: 'Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon.
12エジプト人があなたを見れば、『これは彼の妻だ』と言うだろう。そうすれば、彼らは私を殺し、あなたを生かしておくだろう。
12And it will come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they will say: This is his wife; and they will kill me, but thee they will keep alive.
13どうか、私の妹だと言ってくれ。そうすれば、あなたのゆえに私はよく扱われ、命も助かるだろう。」
13Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister; that it may be well with me for thy sake, and that my soul may live because of thee.'
14アブラムがエジプトに入ると、エジプト人たちはサライが非常に美しいのを見た。
14And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15ファラオの高官たちも彼女を見て、ファラオの前で彼女をほめた。こうして彼女はファラオの家に召し入れられた。
15And the princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16ファラオは彼女のゆえにアブラムを厚くもてなした。アブラムは羊、牛、雄ろば、男のしもべ、女のしもべ、雌ろば、らくだを得た。
16And he dealt well with Abram for her sake; and he had sheep, and oxen, and he-asses, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and she-asses, and camels.
17しかし主は、アブラムの妻サライのゆえに、ファラオとその家をひどい災いで打たれた。
17And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
18ファラオはアブラムを呼び寄せて言った。「あなたは私に何ということをしたのか。なぜ彼女があなたの妻であると私に言わなかったのか。
18And Pharaoh called Abram, and said: 'What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19なぜあなたは『彼女は私の妹です』と言ったのか。そのために、私は彼女を妻として迎えてしまった。さあ今、あなたの妻を連れて行け。立ち去れ。」
19Why saidst thou: She is my sister? so that I took her to be my wife; now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.'
20ファラオはアブラムについて部下たちに命じ、彼らはアブラムを、彼の妻と彼のすべての持ち物とともに送り出した。
20And Pharaoh gave men charge concerning him; and they brought him on the way, and his wife, and all that he had.
