1ツロの王ヒラムは、ソロモンが父に代わって油を注がれ、王となったと聞き、家臣たちを彼のもとに遣わした。ヒラムは以前からダビデを愛していた。
1(5-15) And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father; for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
2ソロモンはヒラムのもとに人を遣わして言った。
2(5-16) And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying:
3「ご存じのとおり、父ダビデは、周囲の戦いのために、自分の神、主の御名のための家を建てることができませんでした。主が敵を彼の足の裏の下に置かれるまで、戦いが続いたからです。
3(5-17) 'Thou knowest how that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of my feet.
4しかし今、わたしの神、主は四方に安息を与えてくださいました。敵対する者もなく、災いも起こりません。
4(5-18) But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence.
5そこでわたしは、わたしの神、主の御名のために家を建てようと思います。主が父ダビデに、『あなたに代わって王座に就かせるあなたの息子が、わたしの名のために家を建てる』と言われたとおりです。
5(5-19) And, behold, I purpose to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke unto David my father, saying: Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build the house for My name.
6ですから今、わたしのためにレバノンから杉の木を切り出すよう命じてください。わたしのしもべたちはあなたのしもべたちとともにおります。わたしはあなたが言われるとおりに、あなたのしもべたちへの賃金をあなたに払います。われわれの中には、シドン人のように木を切り出すことを知っている者がいないことを、あなたがご存じだからです。」
6(5-20) Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar-trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants; and I will give thee hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt say; for thou knowest that there is not among us any that hath skill to hew timber like unto the Zidonians.'
7ヒラムはソロモンの言葉を聞くと大いに喜び、そして言った。「今日、主はほめたたえられるように。主はダビデに、この大きな民を治める知恵のある息子を与えられた。」
7(5-21) And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said: 'Blessed be the LORD this day, who hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.'
8ヒラムはソロモンのもとに人を遣わして言った。「あなたがわたしに遣わされた伝言を聞きました。わたしは杉の木材と糸杉の木材に関するあなたのすべての願いを行います。
8(5-22) And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying: 'I have heard that which thou hast sent unto me; I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of cypress.
9わたしの家臣たちが木材をレバノンから海へ運び下ろし、いかだに組んで、あなたが指定する場所まで海路で送りましょう。そこでいかだを解かせますので、受け取ってください。その代わり、わたしの家のために食糧を供給して、わたしの願いをかなえてください。」
9(5-23) My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea; and I will make them into rafts to go by sea unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and thou shalt receive them; and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.'
10こうしてヒラムはソロモンに、彼のすべての願いのとおりに杉の木材と糸杉の木材を与えた。
10(5-24) So Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of cypress according to all his desire.
11ソロモンはヒラムの家族の食糧として、小麦二万コル と、純粋な油二十コル をヒラムに与えた。ソロモンは年々、このようにしてヒラムに与えた。
11(5-25) And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of beaten oil; thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
12主は約束どおりソロモンに知恵をお与えになった。ヒラムとソロモンの間には平和があり、二人は契約を結んだ。
12(5-26) And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as He promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
13ソロモン王は全イスラエルから徴用者を召集した。その徴用者は三万人であった。
13(5-27) And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
14彼は彼らを月ごとに一万人ずつ、交代でレバノンへ遣わした。彼らは一か月はレバノンに、二か月は家にいた。アドニラムが強制労働に服する者たちの長であった。
14(5-28) And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the levy.
15ソロモンには荷を担ぐ者が七万人、山で石を切り出す者が八万人いた。
15(5-29) And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bore burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains;
16そのほかに、仕事の指揮を執るソロモンの主な役人たちが三千三百人おり、彼らは仕事に服する民を監督した。
16(5-30) besides Solomon's chief officers that were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, who bore rule over the people that wrought in the work.
17王が命じると、彼らは切り石で家の基を据えるために、大きな石、高価な石を切り出した。
17(5-31) And the king commanded, and they quarried great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with hewn stone.
18ソロモンの建築者たちとヒラムの建築者たち、それにゲバル人たちは、それらを切り出し、家を建てるための木材と石を準備した。
18(5-32) And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Gebalites did fashion them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.
