1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. And every one that loveth him who begot, loveth him also who is born of him.
1凡信耶穌是基督的，都是從上帝而生，凡愛生他之上帝的，也必愛從上帝生的。
2In this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God, and keep his commandments.
2我們若愛上帝，又遵守他的誡命，從此就知道我們愛上帝的兒女。
3For this is the charity of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not heavy.
3我們遵守上帝的誡命，這就是愛他了，並且他的誡命不是難守的。
4For whatsoever is born of God, overcometh the world: and this is the victory which overcometh the world, our faith.
4因為凡從上帝生的，就勝過世界；使我們勝了世界的，就是我們的信心。
5Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
5勝過世界的是誰呢？不是那信耶穌是上帝兒子的嗎？
6This is he that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ: not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit which testifieth, that Christ is the truth.
6這藉着水和血而來的，就是耶穌基督；不是單用水，乃是用水又用血，
7And there are three who give testimony in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. And these three are one.
7並且有 聖 靈作見證，因為 聖 靈就是真理。
8And there are three that give testimony on earth: the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three are one.
8作見證的原來有三：就是 聖 靈、水，與血，這三樣也都歸於一。
9If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony of God, which is greater, because he hath testified of his Son.
9我們既領受人的見證，上帝的見證更該領受了，因上帝的見證是為他兒子作的。
10He that believeth in the Son of God, hath the testimony of God in himself. He that believeth not the Son, maketh him a liar: because he believeth not in the testimony which God hath testified of his Son.
10信上帝兒子的，就有這見證在他心裏；不信上帝的，就是將上帝當作說謊的，因不信上帝為他兒子作的見證。
11And this is the testimony, that God hath given to us eternal life. And this life is in his Son.
11這見證就是上帝賜給我們永生；這 永 生也是在他兒子裏面。
12He that hath the Son, hath life. He that hath not the Son, hath not life.
12人有了 上帝的 兒子就有生命，沒有上帝的兒子就沒有生命。
13These things I write to you, that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God.
13我將這些話寫給你們信奉上帝兒子之名的人，要叫你們知道自己有永生。
14And this is the confidence which we have towards him: That, whatsoever we shall ask according to his will, he heareth us.
14我們若照他的旨意求甚麼，他就聽我們，這是我們向他所存坦然無懼的心。
15And we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask: we know that we have the petitions which we request of him.
15既然知道他聽我們一切所求的，就知道我們所求於他的，無不得着。
16He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask, and life shall be given to him, who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death: for that I say not that any man ask.
16人若看見弟兄犯了不至於死的罪，就當為他祈求， 上帝 必將生命賜給他；有至於死的罪，我不說當為這罪祈求。
17All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death.
17凡不義的事都是罪，也有不至於死的罪。
18We know that whosoever is born of God, sinneth not: but the generation of God preserveth him, and the wicked one toucheth him not.
18我們知道凡從上帝生的，必不犯罪，從上帝生的，必保守自己，那惡者也就無法害他。
19We know that we are of God, and the whole world is seated in wickedness.
19我們知道，我們是屬上帝的，全世界都臥在那惡者手下。
20And we know that the Son of God is come: and he hath given us understanding that we may know the true God, and may be in his true Son. This is the true God and life eternal.
20我們也知道，上帝的兒子已經來到，且將智慧賜給我們，使我們認識那位真實的，我們也在那位真實的裏面，就是在他兒子耶穌基督裏面。這是真神，也是永生。
21Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
21小子們哪，你們要自守，遠避偶像！
