1亞希多弗 又對 押沙龍 說：「求你准我挑選一萬二千人，今夜我就起身追趕 大衛 ，
1Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom: 'Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night;
2趁他疲乏手軟，我忽然追上他，使他驚惶；跟隨他的民必都逃跑，我就單殺王一人，
2and I will come upon him while he is weary and weak-handed, and will make him afraid; and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only;
3使眾民都歸順你。你所尋找的人 既然死了 ，眾民就如已經歸順你；這樣，也都平安無事了。」
3and I will bring back all the people unto thee; when all shall have returned, save the man whom thou seekest, all the people will be in peace.'
4押沙龍 和 以色列 的長老都以這話為美。
4And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
5押沙龍 說：「要召 亞基 人 戶篩 來，我們也要聽他怎樣說。」
5Then said Absalom: 'Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.'
6戶篩 到了 押沙龍 面前， 押沙龍 向他說：「 亞希多弗 是如此如此說的，我們照着他的話行可以不可以？若不可，你就說吧！」
6And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spoke unto him, saying: 'Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner; shall we do after his saying? if not, speak thou.'
7戶篩 對 押沙龍 說：「 亞希多弗 這次所定的謀不善。」
7And Hushai said unto Absalom: 'The counsel that Ahithophel hath given this time is not good.'
8戶篩 又說：「你知道，你父親和跟隨他的人都是勇士，現在他們心裏惱怒，如同田野丟崽子的母熊一般，而且你父親是個戰士，必不和民一同住宿。
8Hushai said moreover: 'Thou knowest thy father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are embittered in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field; and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
9他現今或藏在坑中或在別處，若有人首先被殺，凡聽見的必說：『跟隨 押沙龍 的民被殺了。』
9Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some place; and it will come to pass, when they fall upon them at the first, and whosoever heareth it shall say: There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom;
10雖有人膽大如獅子，他的心也必消化；因為 以色列 人都知道你父親是英雄，跟隨他的人也都是勇士。
10then even he that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they that are with him are valiant men.
11依我之計，不如將 以色列 眾人－從 但 直到 別是巴 ，如同海邊的沙那樣多－聚集到你這裏來，你也親自率領他們出戰。
11But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together unto thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.
12這樣，我們在何處遇見他，就下到他那裏，如同露水下在地上一般，連他帶跟隨他的人，一個也不留下。
12So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground; and of him and of all the men that are with him we will not leave so much as one.
13他若進了哪一座城， 以色列 眾人必帶繩子去，將那城拉到河裏，甚至連一塊小石頭都不剩下。」
13Moreover, if he withdraw himself into a city, then shall all Israel bring up ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the valley until there be not one small stone found there.'
14押沙龍 和 以色列 眾人說：「 亞基 人 戶篩 的計謀比 亞希多弗 的計謀更好！」這是因耶和華定意破壞 亞希多弗 的良謀，為要降禍與 押沙龍 。
14And Absalom and all the men of Israel said: 'The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.' — For the LORD had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.
15戶篩 對祭司 撒督 和 亞比亞他 說：「 亞希多弗 為 押沙龍 和 以色列 的長老所定的計謀是如此如此，我所定的計謀是如此如此。
15Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests: 'Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.
16現在你們要急速打發人去，告訴 大衛 說：『今夜不可住在曠野的渡口，務要過河，免得王和跟隨他的人都被吞滅。』」
16Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying: Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but in any wise pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.'
17那時， 約拿單 和 亞希瑪斯 在 隱‧羅結 那裏等候，不敢進城，恐怕被人看見。有一個使女出來，將這話告訴他們，他們就去報信給 大衛 王。
17Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En-rogel; and a maid-servant used to go and tell them; and they went and told king David; for they might not be seen to come into the city.
18然而有一個童子看見他們，就去告訴 押沙龍 。他們急忙跑到 巴戶琳 某人的家裏；那人院中有一口井，他們就下到井裏。
18But a lad saw them, and told Absalom; and they went both of them away quickly, and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down thither.
19那家的婦人用蓋蓋上井口，又在上頭鋪上碎麥，事就沒有洩漏。
19And the woman took and spread the covering over the well's mouth, and strewed groats thereon; and nothing was known.
20押沙龍 的僕人來到那家，問婦人說：「 亞希瑪斯 和 約拿單 在哪裏？」婦人說：「他們過了河了。」 僕人找他們，找不着，就回 耶路撒冷 去了。
20And Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house; and they said: 'Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?' And the woman said unto them: 'They are gone over the brook of water.' And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
21他們走後，二人從井裏上來，去告訴 大衛 王說：「 亞希多弗 如此如此定計害你，你們務要起來，快快過河。」
21And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David; and they said unto David: 'Arise ye, and pass quickly over the water; for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.'
22於是 大衛 和跟隨他的人都起來，過 約旦河 。到了天亮，無一人不過 約旦河 的。
22Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over the Jordan; by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over the Jordan.
23亞希多弗 見不依從他的計謀，就備上驢，歸回本城；到了家，留下遺言，便吊死了，葬在他父親的墳墓裏。
23And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and got him home, unto his city, and set his house in order, and strangled himself; and he died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
24大衛 到了 瑪哈念 ， 押沙龍 和跟隨他的 以色列 人也都過了 約旦河 。
24When David was come to Mahanaim, Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
25押沙龍 立 亞瑪撒 作元帥，代替 約押 。 亞瑪撒 是 以實瑪利 人 以特拉 的兒子。 以特拉 曾與 拿轄 的女兒 亞比該 親近；這 亞比該 與 約押 的母親 洗魯雅 是姊妹。
25And Absalom had set Amasa over the host instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man, whose name was Ithra the Jesraelite, that went in to Abigal the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab's mother.
26押沙龍 和 以色列 人都安營在 基列 地。
26And Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.
27大衛 到了 瑪哈念 ， 亞捫 族的 拉巴 人 拿轄 的兒子 朔比 ， 羅‧底巴 人 亞‧米利 的兒子 瑪吉 ， 基列 的 羅基琳 人 巴西萊 ，
27And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
28帶着被、褥、盆、碗、瓦器、小麥、大麥、麥麵、炒 穀 、豆子、紅豆、炒 豆 、
28brought beds, and basins, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and meal, and parched corn, and beans, and lentils, and parched pulse,
29蜂蜜、奶油、綿羊、奶餅，供給 大衛 和跟隨他的人吃；他們說：「民在曠野，必飢渴困乏了。」
29and honey, and curd, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat; for they said: 'The people is hungry, and faint, and thirsty, in the wilderness.'
