1耶和華又向 以色列 人發怒，就激動 大衛 ，使他吩咐人去數點 以色列 人和 猶大 人。
1And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He moved David against them, saying: 'Go, number Israel and Judah.'
2大衛 就吩咐跟隨他的元帥 約押 說：「你去走遍 以色列 眾支派，從 但 直到 別是巴 ，數點百姓，我好知道他們的數目。」
2And the king said to Joab the captain of the host that was with him: 'Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the sum of the people.'
3約押 對王說：「無論百姓多少，願耶和華－你的上帝再加增百倍，使我主我王親眼得見。我主我王何必喜悅行這事呢？」
3And Joab said unto the king: 'Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they may be, a hundredfold, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it; but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?'
4但王的命令勝過 約押 和眾軍長。 約押 和眾軍長就從王面前出去，數點 以色列 的百姓。
4Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.
5他們過了 約旦河 ，在 迦得谷 中、城的右邊 亞羅珥 安營，與 雅謝 相對，
5And they passed over the Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and unto Jazer;
6又到了 基列 和 他停‧合示 地，又到了 但‧雅安 ，繞到 西頓 ，
6then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to Dan-jaan, and round about to Zidon,
7來到 泰爾 的保障，並 希未 人和 迦南 人的各城，又到 猶大 南方的 別是巴 。
7and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beer-sheba.
8他們走遍全地，過了九個月零二十天，就回到 耶路撒冷 。
8So when they had gone to and fro through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9約押 將百姓的總數奏告於王： 以色列 拿刀的勇士有八十萬； 猶大 有五十萬。
9And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto the king; and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.
10大衛 數點百姓以後，就心中自責，禱告耶和華說：「我行這事大有罪了。耶和華啊，求你除掉僕人的罪孽，因我所行的甚是愚昧。」
10And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD: 'I have sinned greatly in what I have done; but now, O LORD, put away, I beseech Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.'
11大衛 早晨起來，耶和華的話臨到先知 迦得 ，就是 大衛 的先見，說：
11And when David rose up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying:
12「你去告訴 大衛 ，說耶和華如此說：『我有三樣災，隨你選擇一樣，我好降與你。』」
12'Go and speak unto David: Thus saith the LORD: I lay upon thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.'
13於是 迦得 來見 大衛 ，對他說：「你願意國中有七年的饑荒呢？是在你敵人面前逃跑，被追趕三個月呢？是在你國中有三日的瘟疫呢？現在你要揣摩思想，我好回覆那差我來的。」
13So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him: 'Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thy foes while they pursue thee? or shall there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise thee, and consider what answer I shall return to Him that sent Me.'
14大衛 對 迦得 說：「我甚為難！我願落在耶和華的手裏，因為他有豐盛的憐憫。我不願落在人的手裏。」
14And David said unto Gad: 'I am in a great strait; let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for His mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man.'
15於是，耶和華降瘟疫與 以色列 人，自早晨到所定的時候；從 但 直到 別是巴 ，民間死了七萬人。
15So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.
16天使向 耶路撒冷 伸手要滅城的時候，耶和華後悔，就不降這災了，吩咐滅民的天使說：「夠了！住手吧！」那時耶和華的使者在 耶布斯 人 亞勞拿 的禾場那裏。
16And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented Him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people: 'It is enough; now stay thy hand.' And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17大衛 看見滅民的天使，就禱告耶和華說：「我犯了罪，行了惡；但這群羊做了甚麼呢？願你的手攻擊我和我的父家。」
17And David spoke unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said: 'Lo, I have sinned, and I have done iniquitously; but these sheep, what have they done? let Thy hand, I pray Thee, be against me, and against my father's house.'
18當日， 迦得 來見 大衛 ，對他說：「你上去，在 耶布斯 人 亞勞拿 的禾場上為耶和華築一座壇。」
18And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him: 'Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.'
19大衛 就照着 迦得 奉耶和華名所說的話上去了。
19And David went up according to the saying of Gad, as the LORD commanded.
20亞勞拿 觀看，見王和他臣僕前來，就迎接出去，臉伏於地，向王下拜，
20And Araunah looked forth, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him; and Araunah went out, and bowed down before the king with his face to the ground.
21說：「我主我王為何來到僕人這裏呢？」 大衛 說：「我要買你這禾場，為耶和華築一座壇，使民間的瘟疫止住。」
21And Araunah said: 'Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant?' And David said: 'To buy the threshing-floor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.'
22亞勞拿 對 大衛 說：「我主我王，你喜悅用甚麼，就拿去獻祭。看哪，這裏有牛可以作燔祭，有打糧的器具和套牛的軛可以當柴燒。
22And Araunah said unto David: 'Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him; behold the oxen for the burnt-offering, and the threshing-instruments and the furniture of the oxen for the wood.'
23王啊，這一切，我 亞勞拿 都奉給你」；又對王說：「願耶和華－你的上帝悅納你。」
23All this did Araunah the king give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king: 'The LORD thy God accept thee.'
24王對 亞勞拿 說：「不然。我必要按着價值向你買；我不肯用白得之物作燔祭獻給耶和華－我的上帝。」 大衛 就用五十舍客勒銀子買了那禾場與牛。
24And the king said unto Araunah: 'Nay; but I will verily buy it of thee at a price; neither will I offer burnt-offerings unto the LORD my God which cost me nothing.' So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
25大衛 在那裏為耶和華築了一座壇，獻燔祭和平安祭。如此，耶和華垂聽國民所求的，瘟疫在 以色列 人中就止住了。
25And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So the LORD was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
