1大衛 王年紀老邁，雖用被遮蓋，仍不覺暖。
1NOW KING David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he could get no heat.
2所以臣僕對他說：「不如為我主我王尋找一個處女，使她伺候王，奉養王，睡在王的懷中，好叫我主我王得暖。」
2Wherefore his servants said unto him: 'Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin; and let her stand before the king, and be a companion unto him; and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.'
3於是在 以色列 全境尋找美貌的童女，尋得 書念 的一個童女 亞比煞 ，就帶到王那裏。
3So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
4這童女極其美貌，她奉養王，伺候王，王卻沒有與她親近。
4And the damsel was very fair; and she became a companion unto the king, and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.
5那時， 哈及 的兒子 亞多尼雅 自尊，說：「我必作王」，就為自己預備車輛、馬兵，又派五十人在他前頭奔走。
5Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying: 'I will be king'; and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.
6他父親素來沒有使他憂悶，說：「你是做甚麼呢？」他甚俊美，生在 押沙龍 之後。
6And his father had not grieved him all his life in saying: 'Why hast thou done so?' and he was also a very goodly man; and he was born after Absalom.
7亞多尼雅 與 洗魯雅 的兒子 約押 ，和祭司 亞比亞他 商議；二人就順從他，幫助他。
7And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest; and they following Adonijah helped him.
8但祭司 撒督 、 耶何耶大 的兒子 比拿雅 、先知 拿單 、 示每 、 利以 ，並 大衛 的勇士都不順從 亞多尼雅 。
8But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men that belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.
9一日， 亞多尼雅 在 隱‧羅結 旁、 瑣希列 磐石那裏宰了牛羊、肥犢，請他的諸弟兄，就是王的眾子，並所有作王臣僕的 猶大 人；
9And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En-rogel; and he called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants;
10惟獨先知 拿單 和 比拿雅 並勇士，與他的兄弟 所羅門 ，他都沒有請。
10but Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.
11拿單 對 所羅門 的母親 拔示巴 說：「 哈及 的兒子 亞多尼雅 作王了，你沒有聽見嗎？我們的主 大衛 卻不知道。
11Then Nathan spoke unto Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon, saying: 'Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?
12現在我可以給你出個主意，好保全你和你兒子 所羅門 的性命。
12Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
13你進去見 大衛 王，對他說：『我主我王啊，你不曾向婢女起誓說：你兒子 所羅門 必接續我作王，坐在我的位上嗎？現在 亞多尼雅 怎麼作了王呢？』
13Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him: Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thy handmaid, saying: Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?
14你還與王說話的時候，我也隨後進去，證實你的話。」
14Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.'
15拔示巴 進入內室見王，王甚老邁， 書念 的童女 亞比煞 正伺候王。
15And Bath-sheba went in unto the king into the chamber. — Now the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king. —
16拔示巴 向王屈身下拜；王說：「你要甚麼？」
16And Bath-sheba bowed, and prostrated herself unto the king. And the king said: 'What wouldest thou?'
17她說：「我主啊，你曾向婢女指着耶和華－你的上帝起誓 說 ：『你兒子 所羅門 必接續我作王，坐在我的位上。』
17And she said unto him: 'My lord, thou didst swear by the LORD thy God unto thy handmaid: Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.
18現在 亞多尼雅 作王了，我主我王卻不知道。
18And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and thou, my lord the king, knowest it not.
19他宰了許多牛羊、肥犢，請了王的眾子和祭司 亞比亞他 ，並元帥 約押 ；惟獨王的僕人 所羅門 ，他沒有請。
19And he hath slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar, the priest, and Joab the captain of the host; but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.
20我主我王啊， 以色列 眾人的眼目都仰望你，等你曉諭他們，在我主我王之後誰坐你的位。
20And thou, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
21若不然，到我主我王與列祖同睡以後，我和我兒子 所羅門 必算為罪人了。」
21Otherwise it will come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.'
22拔示巴 還與王說話的時候，先知 拿單 也進來了。
22And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.
23有人奏告王說：「先知 拿單 來了。」 拿單 進到王前，臉伏於地。
23And they told the king, saying: 'Behold Nathan the prophet.' And when he was come in before the king, he bowed down before the king with his face to the ground.
24拿單 說：「我主我王果然應許 亞多尼雅 說『你必接續我作王，坐在我的位上』嗎？
24And Nathan said: 'My lord, O king, hast thou said: Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?
25他今日下去，宰了許多牛羊、肥犢，請了王的眾子和軍長，並祭司 亞比亞他 ；他們正在 亞多尼雅 面前吃喝，說：『願 亞多尼雅 王萬歲！』
25For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say: Long live king Adonijah.
26惟獨我，就是你的僕人和祭司 撒督 ， 耶何耶大 的兒子 比拿雅 ，並王的僕人 所羅門 ，他都沒有請。
26But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon hath he not called.
27這事果然出乎我主我王嗎？王卻沒有告訴僕人們，在我主我王之後誰坐你的位。」
27Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not declared unto thy servant who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?'
28大衛 王吩咐說：「叫 拔示巴 來。」 拔示巴 就進來，站在王面前。
28Then king David answered and said: 'Call me Bath-sheba.' And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.
29王起誓說：「我指着救我性命脫離一切苦難、永生的耶和華起誓。
29And the king swore and said: 'As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,
30我既然指着耶和華－ 以色列 的上帝向你起誓說：你兒子 所羅門 必接續我作王，坐在我的位上。我今日就必照這話而行。」
30verily as I swore unto thee by the LORD, the God of Israel, saying: Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; verily so will I do this day.'
31於是， 拔示巴 臉伏於地，向王下拜，說：「願我主 大衛 王萬歲！」
31Then Bath-sheba bowed with her face to the earth, and prostrated herself to the king, and said: 'Let my lord king David live for ever.'
32大衛 王又吩咐說：「將祭司 撒督 、先知 拿單 、 耶何耶大 的兒子 比拿雅 召來！」他們就都來到王面前。
32And king David said: 'Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.' And they came before the king.
33王對他們說：「要帶領你們主的僕人，使我兒子 所羅門 騎我的騾子，送他下到 基訓 ；
33And the king said unto them: 'Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.
34在那裏，祭司 撒督 和先知 拿單 要膏他作 以色列 的王；你們也要吹角，說：『願 所羅門 王萬歲！』
34And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel; and blow ye with the horn, and say: Long live king Solomon.
35然後要跟隨他上來，使他坐在我的位上，接續我作王。我已立他作 以色列 和 猶大 的君。」
35Then ye shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead; and I have appointed him to be prince over Israel and over Judah.'
36耶何耶大 的兒子 比拿雅 對王說：「阿們！願耶和華－我主我王的上帝也這樣命定。
36And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said: 'Amen; so say the LORD, the God of my lord the king.
37耶和華怎樣與我主我王同在，願他照樣與 所羅門 同在，使他的國位比我主 大衛 王的國位更大。」
37As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be He with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.'
38於是，祭司 撒督 、先知 拿單 、 耶何耶大 的兒子 比拿雅 ，和 基利提 人、 比利提 人都下去使 所羅門 騎 大衛 王的騾子，將他送到 基訓 。
38So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.
39祭司 撒督 就從帳幕中取了盛膏油的角來，用膏膏 所羅門 。人就吹角，眾民都說：「願 所羅門 王萬歲！」
39And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the Tent, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the ram's horn; and all the people said: 'Long live king Solomon.'
40眾民跟隨他上來，且吹笛，大大歡呼，聲音震地。
40And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.
41亞多尼雅 和所請的眾客筵宴方畢，聽見這聲音； 約押 聽見角聲就說：「城中為何有這響聲呢？」
41And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the horn, he said: 'Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar?'
42他正說話的時候，祭司 亞比亞他 的兒子 約拿單 來了。 亞多尼雅 對他說：「進來吧！你是個忠義的人，必是報好信息。」
42While he yet spoke, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said: 'Come in; for thou art a worthy man, and bringest good tidings.'
43約拿單 對 亞多尼雅 說：「我們的主 大衛 王誠然立 所羅門 為王了。
43And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah: 'Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king.
44王差遣祭司 撒督 、先知 拿單 、 耶何耶大 的兒子 比拿雅 ，和 基利提 人、 比利提 人都去使 所羅門 騎王的騾子。
44And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule.
45祭司 撒督 和先知 拿單 在 基訓 已經膏他作王。眾人都從那裏歡呼着上來，聲音使城震動，這就是你們所聽見的聲音；
45And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon; and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. This is the noise that ye have heard.
46並且 所羅門 登了國位。
46And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.
47王的臣僕也來為我們的主 大衛 王祝福，說：『願王的上帝使 所羅門 的名比王的名更尊榮；使他的國位比王的國位更大。』王就在床上屈身下拜。
47And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying: God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne; and the king bowed down upon the bed.
48王又說：『耶和華－ 以色列 的上帝是應當稱頌的；因他賜我一人今日坐在我的位上，我也親眼看見了。』」
48And also thus said the king: Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.'
49亞多尼雅 的眾客 聽見這話 就都驚懼，起來四散。
49And all the guests of Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.
50亞多尼雅 懼怕 所羅門 ，就起來，去抓住祭壇的角。
50And Adonijah feared because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
51有人告訴 所羅門 說：「 亞多尼雅 懼怕 所羅門 王，現在抓住祭壇的角，說：『願 所羅門 王今日向我起誓，必不用刀殺僕人。』」
51And it was told Solomon, saying: 'Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon; for, lo, he hath laid hold on the horns of the altar, saying: Let king Solomon swear unto me first of all that he will not slay his servant with the sword.'
52所羅門 說：「他若作忠義的人，連一根頭髮也不致落在地上；他若行惡，必要死亡。」
52And Solomon said: 'If he shall show himself a worthy man, there shall not a hair of him fall to the earth; but if wickedness be found in him, he shall die.'
53於是 所羅門 王差遣人，使 亞多尼雅 從壇上下來，他就來，向 所羅門 王下拜； 所羅門 對他說：「你回家去吧！」
53So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and prostrated himself before king Solomon; and Solomon said unto him: 'Go to thy house.'
