1And the children of Israel journeyed, and pitched in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho.
1ชาวอิสราเอลออกเดินทางและตั้งค่ายในที่ราบโมอับ อีกฟากหนึ่งของแม่น้ำจอร์แดนตรงข้ามเมืองเยรีโค
2And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
2บาลาคลูกชายของศิปโปร์เห็นทุกสิ่งที่อิสราเอลทำกับชาวอาโมไรต์
3And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many; and Moab was overcome with dread because of the children of Israel.
3โมอับกลัวประชาชนอย่างมากเพราะพวกเขามีจำนวนมาก โมอับหวาดหวั่นเพราะชาวอิสราเอล
4And Moab said unto the elders of Midian: 'Now will this multitude lick up all that is round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field.' — And Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time. —
4โมอับพูดกับบรรดาผู้อาวุโสแห่งมีเดียนว่า “คนหมู่นี้กำลังจะกลืนกินทุกสิ่งรอบตัวเรา เหมือนวัวเล็มกินหญ้าในทุ่งจนหมด” เวลานั้นบาลาคลูกชายของศิปโปร์เป็นกษัตริย์แห่งโมอับ
5And he sent messengers unto Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, which is by the River, to the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying: 'Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt; behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me.
5เขาส่งผู้ส่งสารไปหาบาลาอัมลูกชายของเบโอร์ ที่เมืองเปโธร์ริมแม่น้ำในแผ่นดินของชนชาติเดียวกับเขา เพื่อเรียกบาลาอัมมา โดยกล่าวว่า “ดูสิ มีชนชาติหนึ่งออกมาจากอียิปต์ พวกเขาปกคลุมพื้นแผ่นดินและกำลังตั้งถิ่นฐานตรงข้ามกับเรา
6Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me; peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land; for I know that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.'
6บัดนี้โปรดมาสาปแช่งชนชาตินี้ให้เรา เพราะพวกเขาแข็งแกร่งเกินกำลังของเรา บางทีเราจะเอาชนะ โจมตี และขับไล่พวกเขาออกจากแผ่นดินได้ เพราะเรารู้ว่าคนที่ท่านอวยพรก็ได้รับพร และคนที่ท่านสาปแช่งก็ถูกสาปแช่ง”
7And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spoke unto him the words of Balak.
7บรรดาผู้อาวุโสแห่งโมอับและแห่งมีเดียนออกเดินทางโดยถือค่าจ้างสำหรับการทำนายไว้ในมือ พวกเขามาหาบาลาอัมและบอกถ้อยคำของบาลาคแก่เขา
8And he said unto them: 'Lodge here this night, and I will bring you back word, as the LORD may speak unto me'; and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
8บาลาอัมพูดกับพวกเขาว่า “คืนนี้จงพักที่นี่ เราจะนำคำตอบกลับมาบอกพวกท่านตามที่พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับเรา” บรรดาผู้นำแห่งโมอับจึงพักอยู่กับบาลาอัม
9And God came unto Balaam, and said: 'What men are these with thee?'
9พระเจ้าเสด็จมาหาบาลาอัมและตรัสว่า “คนเหล่านี้ที่อยู่กับเจ้าคือใคร?”
10And Balaam said unto God: 'Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me saying:
10บาลาอัมทูลพระเจ้าว่า “บาลาคลูกชายของศิปโปร์ กษัตริย์แห่งโมอับ ส่งข่าวมาหาข้าพระองค์ว่า
11Behold the people that is come out of Egypt, it covereth the face of the earth; now, come curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.'
11‘ดูสิ ชนชาติที่ออกมาจากอียิปต์ปกคลุมพื้นแผ่นดิน บัดนี้จงมาสาปแช่งพวกเขาให้เรา บางทีเราจะสามารถสู้รบกับพวกเขาและขับไล่พวกเขาออกไปได้’”
12And God said unto Balaam: 'Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people; for they are blessed.'
12พระเจ้าตรัสกับบาลาอัมว่า “อย่าไปกับคนเหล่านั้น อย่าสาปแช่งชนชาตินี้ เพราะพวกเขาได้รับพร”
13And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak: 'Get you into your land; for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.'
13บาลาอัมตื่นขึ้นในตอนเช้าและพูดกับบรรดาผู้นำของบาลาคว่า “จงกลับไปยังแผ่นดินของพวกท่าน เพราะพระยาห์เวห์ไม่ทรงอนุญาตให้เราไปกับพวกท่าน”
14And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said: 'Balaam refuseth to come with us.'
14บรรดาผู้นำแห่งโมอับจึงออกเดินทาง กลับไปหาบาลาคและบอกว่า “บาลาอัมไม่ยอมมากับเรา”
15And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
15บาลาคส่งบรรดาผู้นำไปอีกครั้ง คราวนี้มีจำนวนมากกว่าและมีเกียรติมากกว่ากลุ่มก่อน
16And they came to Balaam, and said to him: 'Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor: Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me;
16พวกเขามาหาบาลาอัมและพูดกับเขาว่า “บาลาคลูกชายของศิปโปร์พูดดังนี้ว่า ‘โปรดอย่าให้สิ่งใดขัดขวางท่านจากการมาหาเรา
17for I will promote thee unto very great honour, and whatsoever thou sayest unto me I will do; come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.'
17เพราะเราจะให้เกียรติท่านอย่างสูง และจะทำทุกอย่างที่ท่านบอกเรา ดังนั้นโปรดมาสาปแช่งชนชาตินี้ให้เรา’”
18And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak: 'If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do any thing, small or great.
18บาลาอัมตอบบรรดาผู้รับใช้ของบาลาคว่า “แม้บาลาคจะยกบ้านที่เต็มไปด้วยเงินและทองให้เรา เราก็ไม่อาจฝ่าฝืนคำของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเราเพื่อทำสิ่งใดตามใจ ไม่ว่าเรื่องเล็กหรือเรื่องใหญ่
19Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will speak unto me more.'
19บัดนี้โปรดพักที่นี่คืนนี้ด้วย เพื่อเราจะได้รู้ว่าพระยาห์เวห์จะตรัสอะไรกับเราอีก”
20And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him: 'If the men are come to call thee, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak unto thee, that shalt thou do.'
20พระเจ้าเสด็จมาหาบาลาอัมในเวลากลางคืนและตรัสว่า “ถ้าคนเหล่านี้มาเพื่อเรียกเจ้า ก็จงลุกขึ้นไปกับพวกเขา แต่เจ้าต้องทำตามถ้อยคำที่เราบอกเจ้าเท่านั้น”
21And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
21บาลาอัมตื่นขึ้นในตอนเช้า ผูกอานลา แล้วไปกับบรรดาผู้นำแห่งโมอับ
22And God's anger was kindled because he went; and the angel of the LORD placed himself in the way for an adversary against him. — Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him. —
22แต่พระเจ้าทรงโกรธจัดเพราะเขาไป ทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์ยืนขวางทางเป็นศัตรูกับเขา ขณะนั้นเขากำลังขี่ลาและมีผู้รับใช้สองคนอยู่ด้วย
23And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field; and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
23ลาเห็นทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์ยืนอยู่บนทาง ถือดาบที่ชักออกแล้วในมือ ลาจึงเลี้ยวออกจากทางเข้าไปในทุ่ง บาลาอัมตีลาเพื่อให้มันกลับเข้าทาง
24Then the angel of the LORD stood in a hollow way between the vineyards, a fence being on this side, and a fence on that side.
24แล้วทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์ไปยืนตรงทางแคบระหว่างสวนองุ่น ซึ่งมีกำแพงทั้งสองด้าน
25And the ass saw the angel of the LORD, and she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall; and he smote her again.
25เมื่อเห็นทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์ ลาก็เบียดตัวเข้ากับกำแพง ทำให้เท้าของบาลาอัมถูกหนีบติดกับกำแพง เขาจึงตีมันอีก
26And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
26ทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์เดินต่อไปและยืนตรงที่แคบซึ่งไม่มีทางเลี้ยวไปทางขวาหรือทางซ้าย
27And the ass saw the angel of the LORD, and she lay down under Balaam; and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with his staff.
27เมื่อลาเห็นทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์ มันก็หมอบลงใต้ตัวบาลาอัม บาลาอัมโกรธจัดและใช้ไม้เท้าตีลา
28And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam: 'What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?'
28พระยาห์เวห์ทรงเปิดปากลา มันพูดกับบาลาอัมว่า “ฉันทำอะไรให้ท่าน ท่านจึงตีฉันถึงสามครั้ง?”
29And Balaam said unto the ass: 'Because thou hast mocked me; I would there were a sword in my hand, for now I had killed thee.'
29บาลาอัมตอบลาว่า “เพราะเจ้าทำให้เราเป็นตัวตลก ถ้ามีดาบอยู่ในมือ ตอนนี้เราคงฆ่าเจ้าไปแล้ว!”
30And the ass said unto Balaam: 'Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden all thy life long unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee?' And he said: 'Nay.'
30ลาพูดกับบาลาอัมว่า “ฉันไม่ใช่ลาของท่านที่ท่านขี่มาตลอดชีวิตจนถึงวันนี้หรือ? ฉันเคยทำแบบนี้กับท่านมาก่อนหรือ?” เขาตอบว่า “ไม่เคย”
31Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face.
31แล้วพระยาห์เวห์ทรงเปิดตาของบาลาอัม เขาจึงเห็นทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์ยืนอยู่บนทาง ถือดาบที่ชักออกแล้วในมือ เขาจึงก้มศีรษะแล้วหมอบซบหน้าลง
32And the angel of the LORD said unto him: 'Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I am come forth for an adversary, because thy way is contrary unto me;
32ทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์พูดกับเขาว่า “ทำไมเจ้าจึงตีลาของเจ้าถึงสามครั้ง? ดูสิ เราออกมาขวางเจ้าเป็นศัตรู เพราะทางที่เจ้าไปนั้นขัดต่อเรา
33and the ass saw me, and turned aside before me these three times; unless she had turned aside from me, surely now I had even slain thee, and saved her alive.'
33ลาเห็นเราและเลี่ยงไปจากเราถึงสามครั้ง ถ้ามันไม่เลี่ยงไปจากเรา ตอนนี้เราคงฆ่าเจ้าและไว้ชีวิตมัน”
34And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD: 'I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me; now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back.'
34บาลาอัมพูดกับทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์ว่า “ข้าพเจ้าทำบาปแล้ว เพราะข้าพเจ้าไม่รู้ว่าท่านยืนขวางทางต่อต้านข้าพเจ้าอยู่ บัดนี้ถ้าท่านไม่พอใจ ข้าพเจ้าจะกลับไป”
35And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam: 'Go with the men; but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak.' So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
35ทูตสวรรค์ของพระยาห์เวห์พูดกับบาลาอัมว่า “จงไปกับคนเหล่านั้น แต่เจ้าต้องพูดเฉพาะถ้อยคำที่เราจะบอกเจ้าเท่านั้น” บาลาอัมจึงไปกับบรรดาผู้นำของบาลาค
36And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto Ir-moab, which is on the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost part of the border.
36เมื่อบาลาคได้ยินว่าบาลาอัมมาแล้ว เขาก็ออกไปพบที่เมืองโมอับ ซึ่งอยู่ตรงชายแดนริมแม่น้ำอารโนน ณ ปลายสุดของเขตแดน
37And Balak said unto Balaam: 'Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?'
37บาลาคพูดกับบาลาอัมว่า “เราอุตส่าห์ส่งคนไปเรียกท่านไม่ใช่หรือ? ทำไมท่านจึงไม่มาหาเรา? เราจะยกย่องให้เกียรติท่านอย่างสูงไม่ได้หรือ?”
38And Balaam said unto Balak: 'Lo, I am come unto thee; have I now any power at all to speak any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.'
38บาลาอัมตอบบาลาคว่า “ดูสิ เรามาหาท่านแล้ว แต่ตอนนี้เรามีอำนาจพูดอะไรตามใจได้หรือ? เราจะพูดถ้อยคำที่พระเจ้าทรงใส่ไว้ในปากของเรา”
39And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kiriath-huzoth.
39บาลาอัมไปกับบาลาค และพวกเขามาถึงคีริยาทหุโศท
40And Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.
40บาลาคถวายโคและแกะเป็นเครื่องบูชา แล้วส่งไปให้บาลาอัมและบรรดาผู้นำที่อยู่กับเขา
41And it came to pass in the morning that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into Bamoth-baal, and he saw from thence the utmost part of the people.
41เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้น บาลาคพาบาลาอัมขึ้นไปยังสถานบูชาบนที่สูงของบาอัล จากที่นั่นเขามองเห็นประชาชนส่วนหนึ่ง
