1And the LORD spoke unto Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying:
1พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโมเสสในที่ราบโมอับริมแม่น้ำจอร์แดนตรงข้ามเมืองเยรีโคว่า
2'Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and open land round about the cities shall ye give unto the Levites.
2“จงบัญชาชาวอิสราเอลให้นำเมืองจากส่วนมรดกของตนมอบให้ชาวเลวีอาศัยอยู่ และให้มอบทุ่งหญ้ารอบเมืองเหล่านั้นแก่ชาวเลวี
3And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and their open land shall be for their cattle, and for their substance, and for all their beasts.
3เมืองเหล่านั้นจะเป็นที่อยู่อาศัยของชาวเลวี ส่วนทุ่งหญ้าจะใช้สำหรับฝูงสัตว์ ทรัพย์สิน และสัตว์ทั้งหมดของพวกเขา
4And the open land about the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall be from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.
4“ทุ่งหญ้ารอบเมืองที่พวกเจ้ามอบให้ชาวเลวี ต้องวัดจากกำแพงเมืองออกไปโดยรอบ 1,000 ศอก
5And ye shall measure without the city for the east side two thousand cubits, and for the south side two thousand cubits, and for the west side two thousand cubits, and for the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the midst. This shall be to them the open land about the cities.
5พวกเจ้าต้องวัดพื้นที่นอกเมือง ด้านตะวันออก 2,000 ศอก ด้านใต้ 2,000 ศอก ด้านตะวันตก 2,000 ศอก และด้านเหนือ 2,000 ศอก โดยให้เมืองอยู่ตรงกลาง นี่จะเป็นทุ่งหญ้ารอบเมืองของพวกเขา
6And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee thither; and beside them ye shall give forty and two cities.
6“ในบรรดาเมืองที่พวกเจ้ามอบให้ชาวเลวี ต้องมีเมืองลี้ภัย 6 เมือง เพื่อให้ผู้ฆ่าคนหนีไปที่นั่น นอกจากนี้จงมอบเมืองอีก 42 เมือง
7All the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with the open land about them.
7เมืองทั้งหมดที่พวกเจ้ามอบให้ชาวเลวีมี 48 เมือง พร้อมกับทุ่งหญ้ารอบเมือง
8And concerning the cities which ye shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many ye shall take many, and from the few ye shall take few; each tribe according to its inheritance which it inheriteth shall give of its cities unto the Levites.'
8เมืองที่พวกเจ้ามอบจากกรรมสิทธิ์ของชาวอิสราเอลนั้น กลุ่มที่มีคนมากให้มอบหลายเมือง และกลุ่มที่มีคนน้อยให้มอบเมืองน้อย แต่ละเผ่าต้องมอบเมืองบางแห่งให้ชาวเลวีตามขนาดมรดกที่ตนได้รับ”
9And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
9พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า
10'Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them: When ye pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
10“จงบอกชาวอิสราเอลว่า ‘เมื่อพวกเจ้าข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนเข้าไปในแผ่นดินคานาอัน
11then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer that killeth any person through error may flee thither.
11จงกำหนดเมืองต่าง ๆ ให้เป็นเมืองลี้ภัย เพื่อให้ผู้ฆ่าคนโดยไม่เจตนาหนีไปที่นั่น
12And the cities shall be unto you for refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation for judgment.
12เมืองเหล่านี้จะเป็นที่ลี้ภัยจากผู้แก้แค้นแทนผู้ตาย เพื่อไม่ให้ผู้ฆ่าคนต้องตายก่อนจะยืนรับการพิพากษาต่อหน้าชุมนุมชน
13And as to the cities which ye shall give, there shall be for you six cities of refuge.
13เมืองที่พวกเจ้ามอบให้จะเป็นเมืองลี้ภัย 6 เมือง
14Ye shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan; they shall be cities of refuge.
14จงมอบ 3 เมืองที่อีกฟากหนึ่งของแม่น้ำจอร์แดน และ 3 เมืองในแผ่นดินคานาอัน ให้เป็นเมืองลี้ภัย
15For the children of Israel, and for the stranger and for the settler among them, shall these six cities be for refuge, that every one that killeth any person through error may flee thither.
15เมืองทั้ง 6 นี้จะเป็นที่ลี้ภัยสำหรับชาวอิสราเอล คนต่างด้าว และคนต่างชาติที่อาศัยอยู่ท่ามกลางพวกเขา เพื่อให้ทุกคนที่ฆ่าคนโดยไม่เจตนาหนีไปที่นั่น
16But if he smote him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.
16“‘แต่ถ้าเขาใช้สิ่งของที่ทำจากเหล็กตีคนหนึ่งจนตาย เขาเป็นฆาตกร ฆาตกรนั้นต้องถูกประหารชีวิตอย่างแน่นอน
17And if he smote him with a stone in the hand, whereby a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.
17ถ้าเขาใช้ก้อนหินที่ถืออยู่ในมือตีคนหนึ่งจนตาย โดยก้อนหินนั้นอาจทำให้คนตายได้ เขาเป็นฆาตกร ฆาตกรนั้นต้องถูกประหารชีวิตอย่างแน่นอน
18Or if he smote him with a weapon of wood in the hand, whereby a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.
18หรือถ้าเขาใช้อาวุธไม้ที่ถืออยู่ในมือตีคนหนึ่งจนตาย โดยอาวุธนั้นอาจทำให้คนตายได้ เขาเป็นฆาตกร ฆาตกรนั้นต้องถูกประหารชีวิตอย่างแน่นอน
19The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death; when he meeteth him, he shall put him to death.
19ผู้แก้แค้นแทนผู้ตายต้องเป็นผู้ประหารฆาตกร เมื่อพบเขาก็ให้ประหารเขา
20And if he thrust him of hatred, or hurled at him any thing, lying in wait, so that he died;
20ถ้าคนหนึ่งผลักอีกคนเพราะความเกลียดชัง หรือซุ่มรอแล้วขว้างสิ่งของใส่จนคนนั้นตาย
21or in enmity smote him with his hand, that he died; he that smote him shall surely be put to death: he is a murderer; the avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meeteth him.
21หรือใช้มือตีด้วยความเป็นศัตรูจนคนนั้นตาย ผู้ที่ตีต้องถูกประหารชีวิตอย่างแน่นอน เขาเป็นฆาตกร ผู้แก้แค้นแทนผู้ตายต้องประหารฆาตกรเมื่อพบเขา
22But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or hurled upon him any thing without lying in wait,
22“‘แต่ถ้าเขาผลักอีกคนอย่างกะทันหันโดยไม่มีความเป็นศัตรู หรือขว้างสิ่งของใส่โดยไม่ได้ซุ่มรอ
23or with any stone, whereby a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, so that he died, and he was not his enemy, neither sought his harm;
23หรือโยนก้อนหินที่อาจทำให้คนตายได้ใส่อีกคนโดยไม่เห็นเขา จนคนนั้นตาย ทั้งที่ผู้โยนไม่ได้เป็นศัตรูและไม่ได้คิดทำร้ายเขา
24then the congregation shall judge between the smiter and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances;
24ชุมนุมชนต้องพิพากษาระหว่างผู้ที่ตีคนนั้นกับผู้แก้แค้นแทนผู้ตายตามกฎระเบียบเหล่านี้
25and the congregation shall deliver the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, whither he was fled; and he shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.
25ชุมนุมชนต้องช่วยผู้ฆ่าคนให้พ้นจากมือของผู้แก้แค้นแทนผู้ตาย และส่งเขากลับไปยังเมืองลี้ภัยที่เขาหนีมา เขาต้องอาศัยอยู่ที่นั่นจนกว่ามหาปุโรหิตผู้ได้รับการเจิมด้วยน้ำมันบริสุทธิ์จะเสียชีวิต
26But if the manslayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge, whither he fleeth;
26“‘แต่ถ้าผู้ฆ่าคนออกไปพ้นเขตเมืองลี้ภัยที่ตนหนีไปไม่ว่าเวลาใด
27and the avenger of blood find him without the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood slay the manslayer; there shall be no bloodguiltiness for him;
27และผู้แก้แค้นแทนผู้ตายพบเขานอกเขตเมืองลี้ภัยแล้วฆ่าเขา ผู้แก้แค้นแทนผู้ตายจะไม่มีความผิดฐานฆ่าคนนั้น
28because he must remain in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest; but after the death of the high priest the manslayer may return into the land of his possession.
28เพราะผู้ฆ่าคนควรอยู่ในเมืองลี้ภัยจนกว่ามหาปุโรหิตจะเสียชีวิต แต่หลังจากมหาปุโรหิตเสียชีวิตแล้ว ผู้ฆ่าคนจึงกลับไปยังแผ่นดินที่เป็นกรรมสิทธิ์ของตนได้
29And these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
29“‘ข้อกำหนดเหล่านี้จะเป็นกฎหมายและกฎระเบียบสำหรับพวกเจ้าตลอดทุกชั่วอายุในที่อยู่อาศัยทุกแห่ง
30Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be slain at the mouth of witnesses; but one witness shall not testify against any person that he die.
30“‘ผู้ที่ฆ่าคนจะถูกประหารในฐานะฆาตกรได้โดยอาศัยคำให้การของพยานหลายคน แต่พยานเพียงคนเดียวจะให้การกล่าวโทษคนหนึ่งจนทำให้เขาตายไม่ได้
31Moreover ye shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer, that is guilty of death; but he shall surely be put to death.
31“‘พวกเจ้าต้องไม่รับค่าไถ่เพื่อไว้ชีวิตฆาตกรผู้มีความผิดถึงตาย เขาต้องถูกประหารชีวิตอย่างแน่นอน
32And ye shall take no ransom for him that is fled to his city of refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
32“‘พวกเจ้าต้องไม่รับค่าไถ่เพื่อให้ผู้ที่หนีไปยังเมืองลี้ภัยกลับมาอาศัยอยู่ในแผ่นดินก่อนปุโรหิตเสียชีวิต
33So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are; for blood, it polluteth the land; and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
33“‘ดังนั้นพวกเจ้าต้องไม่ทำให้แผ่นดินที่อาศัยอยู่เป็นมลทิน เพราะเลือดทำให้แผ่นดินเป็นมลทิน ไม่มีทางทำพิธีลบมลทินบาปให้แผ่นดินจากเลือดที่ไหลอยู่บนนั้นได้ นอกจากด้วยเลือดของผู้ที่ทำให้เลือดนั้นไหล
34And thou shalt not defile the land which ye inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the LORD dwell in the midst of the children of Israel.'
34พวกเจ้าต้องไม่ทำให้แผ่นดินที่พวกเจ้าอาศัยอยู่และที่เราสถิตอยู่เสื่อมความบริสุทธิ์ เพราะเราคือพระยาห์เวห์ และเราอยู่ท่ามกลางชาวอิสราเอล’”
