1And Samuel said unto Saul: 'The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over His people, over Israel; now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.
1ซามูเอลกล่าวกับซาอูลว่า “พระยาห์เวห์ทรงส่งฉันมาเจิมท่านเป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอล ซึ่งเป็นประชากรของพระองค์ บัดนี้จงฟังพระดำรัสของพระยาห์เวห์
2Thus saith the LORD of hosts: I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt.
2พระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพตรัสว่า ‘เราระลึกถึงสิ่งที่อามาเลขทำต่ออิสราเอล ตอนที่อิสราเอลเดินทางออกจากอียิปต์ อามาเลขตั้งตนเป็นปฏิปักษ์ต่อพวกเขาระหว่างทาง
3Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.'
3บัดนี้จงไปโจมตีอามาเลข ทำลายทุกสิ่งที่พวกเขามีให้สิ้น อย่าไว้ชีวิตใคร จงฆ่าทั้งชายหญิง ทารกและเด็กที่ยังกินนมแม่ รวมทั้งวัว แกะ อูฐ และลา’”
4And Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
4ซาอูลเรียกระดมพลและนับที่เทลาอิม ได้ทหารราบสองแสนคนกับชายยูดาห์อีกหนึ่งหมื่นคน
5And Saul came to the city of Amalek, and lay in wait in the valley.
5เขามาถึงเมืองอามาเลข แล้ววางกำลังซุ่มโจมตีในหุบเขา
6And Saul said unto the Kenites: 'Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for ye showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt.' So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
6ซาอูลบอกชาวเคไนต์ว่า “ไปเสีย ออกห่างจากชาวอามาเลข มิฉะนั้นฉันจะทำลายพวกท่านไปพร้อมกับพวกเขา เพราะพวกท่านเคยเมตตาชาวอิสราเอลทั้งหมดตอนที่ออกจากอียิปต์” ชาวเคไนต์จึงแยกออกจากชาวอามาเลข
7And Saul smote the Amalekites, from Havilah as thou goest to Shur, that is in front of Egypt.
7ซาอูลโจมตีชาวอามาเลขตั้งแต่ฮาวิลาห์ไปจนถึงชูร์ทางด้านอียิปต์
8And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
8เขาจับอากักกษัตริย์ชาวอามาเลขไว้เป็น ๆ และฆ่าชาวอามาเลขทั้งหมดด้วยคมดาบ
9But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, even the young of the second birth, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them; but every thing that was of no account and feeble, that they destroyed utterly.
9แต่ซาอูลกับประชาชนไว้ชีวิตอากักและเก็บส่วนที่ดีที่สุดของฝูงแกะ ฝูงวัว ลูกวัวอ้วน ลูกแกะ และสิ่งดีอื่น ๆ ไว้ ไม่ยอมทำลายสิ่งเหล่านี้ให้สิ้น ส่วนของที่ไร้ค่าและใช้ไม่ได้ พวกเขากลับทำลายหมด
10Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying:
10พระดำรัสของพระยาห์เวห์มาถึงซามูเอลว่า
11'It repenteth Me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following Me, and hath not performed My commandments.' And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.
11“เราเสียใจที่ตั้งซาอูลเป็นกษัตริย์ เพราะเขาหันหลังจากการติดตามเราและไม่ทำตามคำสั่งของเรา” ซามูเอลโกรธ และร้องทูลพระยาห์เวห์ตลอดคืน
12And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying: 'Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he is setting him up a monument, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.'
12เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้นซามูเอลตื่นแต่เช้าเพื่อไปพบซาอูล มีคนบอกว่า “ซาอูลไปคารเมล สร้างอนุสาวรีย์ให้ตัวเองที่นั่น แล้วเดินทางลงไปยังกิลกาล”
13And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said unto him: 'Blessed be thou of the LORD; I have performed the commandment of the LORD.'
13เมื่อซามูเอลมาถึง ซาอูลกล่าวว่า “ขอพระยาห์เวห์อวยพรท่าน! ฉันทำตามคำสั่งของพระยาห์เวห์แล้ว”
14And Samuel said: 'What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?'
14ซามูเอลถามว่า “ถ้าอย่างนั้นเสียงแกะร้องกับเสียงวัวร้องที่ฉันได้ยินนี่คืออะไร?”
15And Saul said: 'They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.'
15ซาอูลตอบว่า “พวกเขานำมาจากชาวอามาเลข ประชาชนเก็บแกะและวัวที่ดีที่สุดไว้ถวายเป็นเครื่องบูชาแด่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่าน ส่วนที่เหลือเราทำลายหมดแล้ว”
16Then Samuel said unto Saul: 'Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night.' And he said unto him: 'Say on.'
16ซามูเอลกล่าวว่า “หยุดก่อน ฉันจะบอกว่าพระยาห์เวห์ตรัสอะไรกับฉันเมื่อคืน” ซาอูลตอบว่า “พูดมาเถอะ”
17And Samuel said: 'Though thou be little in thine own sight, art thou not head of the tribes of Israel? And the LORD anointed thee king over Israel;
17ซามูเอลกล่าวว่า “แม้ท่านเคยมองว่าตัวเองต่ำต้อย แต่ท่านก็ได้เป็นหัวหน้าของเผ่าต่าง ๆ ในอิสราเอลไม่ใช่หรือ? พระยาห์เวห์ทรงเจิมท่านเป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอล
18and the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said: Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.
18พระยาห์เวห์ทรงส่งท่านไปพร้อมคำสั่งว่า ‘ไปทำลายชาวอามาเลขผู้ทำบาปให้สิ้น รบกับพวกเขาจนหมดสิ้น’
19Wherefore then didst thou not hearken to the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst that which was evil in the sight of the LORD?'
19แล้วทำไมท่านไม่เชื่อฟังพระยาห์เวห์ กลับพุ่งเข้าหาของที่ยึดมาได้ และทำสิ่งชั่วในสายพระเนตรพระองค์?”
20And Saul said unto Samuel: 'Yea, I have hearkened to the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
20ซาอูลตอบซามูเอลว่า “ฉันเชื่อฟังพระยาห์เวห์แล้ว เดินทางไปตามที่ทรงส่ง จับอากักกษัตริย์อามาเลขมา และทำลายชาวอามาเลขหมดแล้ว
21But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.'
21แต่ประชาชนเอาแกะกับวัวที่ดีที่สุดจากสิ่งที่ต้องถูกทำลายมา เพื่อถวายเป็นเครื่องบูชาแด่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านที่กิลกาล”
22And Samuel said: 'Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in hearkening to the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
22ซามูเอลกล่าวว่า “พระยาห์เวห์ทรงพอพระทัยเครื่องบูชาเผาทั้งตัวและเครื่องบูชาอื่น ๆ เท่ากับการเชื่อฟังพระดำรัสของพระองค์หรือ? การเชื่อฟังดีกว่าเครื่องบูชา การฟังดีกว่าไขมันของแกะตัวผู้
23For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, He hath also rejected thee from being king.'
23เพราะการกบฏเป็นบาปเช่นเดียวกับการใช้เวทมนตร์ และความดื้อรั้นก็เหมือนการไหว้รูปเคารพกับเทราฟิม เพราะท่านปฏิเสธพระดำรัสของพระยาห์เวห์ พระองค์จึงปฏิเสธไม่ให้ท่านเป็นกษัตริย์”
24And Saul said unto Samuel: 'I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words; because I feared the people, and hearkened to their voice.
24ซาอูลบอกซามูเอลว่า “ฉันทำบาปแล้ว ฉันละเมิดพระบัญชาของพระยาห์เวห์และคำสั่งของท่าน เพราะกลัวประชาชนและเชื่อฟังพวกเขา
25Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD.'
25บัดนี้โปรดยกโทษให้ฉันและกลับไปกับฉัน เพื่อฉันจะได้นมัสการพระยาห์เวห์”
26And Samuel said unto Saul: 'I will not return with thee; for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.'
26ซามูเอลตอบว่า “ฉันจะไม่กลับไปกับท่าน เพราะท่านปฏิเสธพระดำรัสของพระยาห์เวห์ พระองค์ก็ทรงปฏิเสธท่านจากการเป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอลแล้ว”
27And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his robe, and it rent.
27ขณะซามูเอลหันหลังจะไป ซาอูลคว้าชายเสื้อคลุมของซามูเอลไว้จนขาด
28And Samuel said unto him: 'The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.
28ซามูเอลกล่าวว่า “วันนี้พระยาห์เวห์ทรงฉีกอาณาจักรอิสราเอลไปจากท่าน และมอบให้คนร่วมชาติคนหนึ่งที่ดีกว่าท่าน
29And also the Glory of Israel will not lie nor repent; for He is not a man, that He should repent.'
29พระผู้เป็นกำลังของอิสราเอลจะไม่ทรงโกหกหรือเปลี่ยนพระทัย เพราะพระองค์ไม่ใช่มนุษย์ที่จะเปลี่ยนใจ”
30Then he said: 'I have sinned; yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.'
30ซาอูลกล่าวว่า “ฉันทำบาปแล้ว แต่ตอนนี้โปรดให้เกียรติฉันต่อหน้าผู้อาวุโสของประชาชนและต่อหน้าอิสราเอล กลับไปกับฉันเถอะ เพื่อฉันจะได้นมัสการพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่าน”
31So Samuel returned after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.
31ซามูเอลจึงกลับไปกับซาอูล และซาอูลนมัสการพระยาห์เวห์
32Then said Samuel: 'Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites.' And Agag came unto him in chains. And Agag said: 'Surely the bitterness of death is at hand.'
32แล้วซามูเอลสั่งว่า “พาอากักกษัตริย์ชาวอามาเลขมาหาฉัน” อากักเดินเข้ามาอย่างร่าเริงและพูดว่า “ความขมขื่นแห่งความตายคงผ่านไปแล้ว”
33And Samuel said: As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
33ซามูเอลกล่าวว่า “ดาบของเจ้าทำให้หญิงทั้งหลายไร้ลูกฉันใด แม่ของเจ้าก็จะไร้ลูกท่ามกลางหญิงทั้งหลายฉันนั้น” แล้วซามูเอลสับอากักเป็นชิ้น ๆ ต่อพระพักตร์พระยาห์เวห์ที่กิลกาล
34Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeath-shaul.
34ซามูเอลกลับรามาห์ ส่วนซาอูลกลับบ้านที่กิเบอาห์ของซาอูล
35And Samuel never beheld Saul again until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul; and the LORD repented that He had made Saul king over Israel.
35ซามูเอลไม่ได้ไปพบซาอูลอีกเลยจนวันตาย แต่ซามูเอลยังไว้ทุกข์ให้ซาอูล พระยาห์เวห์ทรงเสียพระทัยที่ตั้งซาอูลเป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอล
