1ソロモンの箴言。 知恵のある息子は父を喜ばせ、 愚かな息子は母に悲しみをもたらす。
1The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother.
2悪によって得た宝は何の益にもならないが、 義は死から救い出す。
2Ill-gotten treasures profit nothing, but righteousness brings deliverance from death.
3主は義人を飢えさせず、 悪しき者の欲望を退ける。
3The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but He denies the craving of the wicked.
4手を怠らせる者は貧しくなり、 勤勉な者の手は富をもたらす。
4Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.
5夏の間に集める者は知恵のある息子であり、 刈り入れの時に眠る者は恥をもたらす息子である。
5He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
6義人の頭には祝福があり、 暴力が悪しき者の口を覆う。
6Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
7義人の記憶は祝福されるが、 悪しき者の名は朽ち果てる。
7The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.
8心に知恵のある者は命令を受け入れるが、 口数の多い愚かな者は倒れる。
8A wise heart will receive commandments, but foolish lips will come to ruin.
9潔白に歩む者は安心して歩むが、 自分の道を曲げる者は正体を知られる。
9He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.
10目で合図する者は悲しみを引き起こし、 口数の多い愚かな者は倒れる。
10He who winks the eye causes grief, and foolish lips will come to ruin.
11義人の口は命の泉であるが、 暴力が悪しき者の口を覆う。
11The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
12憎しみは争いを引き起こすが、 愛はすべての過ちを覆う。
12Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers all transgressions.
13悟りのある者の唇には知恵が見いだされるが、 悟りのない者の背にはむちがある。
13Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks judgment.
14知恵のある者は知識を蓄えるが、 愚かな者の口には滅びが迫っている。
14The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of the fool invites destruction.
15富む者の財産は、その人の堅固な町である。 貧しい者を滅ぼすものは、その貧しさである。
15The wealth of the rich man is his fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor.
16義人の労働は命に至り、 悪しき者の収益は罪に至る。
16The labor of the righteous leads to life, but the gain of the wicked brings punishment.
17教訓に心を留める者は命の道を歩むが、 叱責を捨てる者は他の人々を迷わせる。
17Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who ignores reproof goes astray.
18憎しみを隠す者には偽りの唇があり、 中傷を言い広める者は愚かな者である。
18The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.
19言葉が多ければ、背きが絶えることはない。 しかし、唇を慎む者は知恵がある。
19When words are many, sin is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.
20義人の舌は選り抜きの銀のようだが、 悪しき者の心にはほとんど価値がない。
20The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked has little worth.
21義人の唇は多くの人を養うが、 愚かな者は悟りを欠いて死ぬ。
21The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of judgment.
22主の祝福は人を富ませ、 主はそれに苦しみを加えない。
22The blessing of the LORD enriches, and He adds no sorrow to it.
23悪を行うことは愚かな者にとって遊びであり、 知恵は悟りのある者にとって喜びである。
23The fool delights in shameful conduct, but a man of understanding has wisdom.
24悪しき者が恐れるものは、その身に降りかかるが、 義人の願いはかなえられる。
24What the wicked man dreads will overtake him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.
25つむじ風が過ぎ去れば、悪しき者はいなくなるが、 義人は永遠に堅く立つ。
25When the whirlwind passes, the wicked are no more, but the righteous are secure forever.
26歯に酢、目に煙がそうであるように、 怠け者も、自分を遣わす者には同じである。
26Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the slacker to those who send him.
27主を恐れることは日々を長くするが、 悪しき者の年月は短くされる。
27The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be cut short.
28義人の望みは喜びとなるが、 悪しき者の希望は滅びる。
28The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectations of the wicked will perish.
29主の道は正しい者にとって砦であるが、 不法を行う者にとっては滅びである。
29The way of the LORD is a refuge to the upright, but destruction awaits those who do evil.
30義人は決して揺り動かされないが、 悪しき者はその地に住み続けることができない。
30The righteous will never be shaken, but the wicked will not inhabit the land.
31義人の口は知恵を生み出すが、 よこしまな舌は切り取られる。
31The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out.
32義人の唇は何が喜ばれるかをわきまえるが、 悪しき者の口はよこしまである。
32The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
