1A LAILA olelo mai o Ioba, i mai la,
1Then Job answered, and said:
2Pehea la ka loihi e hoeha mai ai oukou i kuu uhane, A e haihai mai ia'u ma na olelo?
2How long do you afflict my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
3Eia ka umi o ka oukou olelo ino mai ia'u; Aole oukou i hilahila, ke hookulikuli oukou ia'u;
3Behold, these ten times you confound me, and are not ashamed to oppress me.
4Ina he oiaio, he lalau ko'u, Ke waiho nei me au kuu lalau ana.
4For if I have been ignorant, my ignorance shall be with me.
5Ina he oiaio, e hookiekie oukou e ku e ia'u, A e ao mai ia'u i kuu hoinoia:
5But you have set yourselves up against me, and reprove me with my reproaches.
6E ike oukou ano, ua hookahuli mai ke Akua ia'u, A ua hoopuni mai ia'u i kana upena.
6At least now understand, that God hath not afflicted me with an equal judgment, and compassed me with his scourges.
7Aia hoi, ke kahea aku nei au no ka hana ino ia, aole au i hooloheia mai; Ke hea nui aku nei an, aohe hooponopono.
7Behold I cry suffering violence, and no one will hear: I shall cry aloud, and there is none to judge.
8Ua alalai mai ia i ko'u ala, aole au e hiki ke hele aku, A ua kau no ia i ka pouli ma kuu mau alanui.
8He hath hedged in my path round about, and I cannot pass, and in my way he hath set darkness.
9Ua hao mai ia ia'u i kuu nani, Ua lawe hoi i ka leialii mai kuu poo aku.
9He hath stripped me of my glory, and hath taken the crown from my head.
10Ua luku mai ia ia'u a puni, a ua pau hoi au; A ua uhuki ae ia i kuu manaolana, me he laau la,
10He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am lost, and he hath taken away my hope, as from a tree that is plucked up.
11Ua hoaa no ia i kona inaina ia'u, A ua manao no ia'u me kona poe enemi.
11His wrath is kindled against me, and he hath counted me as his enemy.
12Hoakoakoaia kona poe koa, A hoouka ae lakou i ko lakou kuamoo ia'u, A hoomoana lakou a puni ko'u halelewa.
12His troops have come together, and have made themselves a way by me, and have besieged my tabernacle round about.
13Ua hoomamao aku ia i ko'u mau hoahanau mai o'u aku la, A o ko'u mau hoalauna, ua hoomaka e lakou ia'u.
13He hath put my brethren far from me, and my acquaintance like strangers have departed from me.
14Ua haalele kuu mau hoa pili ia'u, A o kuu poe makamaka, ua hoopoina lakou ia'u.
14My kinsmen have forsaken me, and they that knew me, have forgotten me.
15O ka poe e noho ana ma kuu hale, a me na kauwawahine a'u, manao mai lakou ia'u he malihini: He kanaka e no wau i ko lakou mau maka.
15They that dwelt in my house, and my maidservants have counted me a stranger, and I have been like an alien in their eyes.
16Kahea aku au i ka'u kauwa, aole ia e o mai; Nonoi aku au ia ia me kuu waha.
16I called my servant, and he gave me no answer, I entreated him with my own mouth.
17Ua ano e kuu hanu i ka'u wahine, A me kuu uwe ana i na keiki o kuu kino.
17My wife hath abhorred my breath, and I entreated the children of my womb.
18O na keiki liilii, hoowahawaha lakou ia'u; Ku no wau iluna, a olelo ku e mai lakou ia'u.
18Even fools despise me; and when I gone from them, they spoke against me.
19O na hoa kuka o'u a pau, ua hoopailua lakou ia'u; A o ka poe a'u i aloha i, ua huli lakou e ku e ia'u.
19They that were sometime my counsellors, have abhorred me: and he whom I love most is turned against me.
20Ke pili nei kuu iwi i ko'u ili a me ko'u io, A ua pakele au me ka ili o ko'u mau niho.
20The flesh being consumed. My bone hath cleaved to my skin, and nothing but lips are left about my teeth.
21E aloha mai ia'u, e aloha mai ia'u, e oukou ko'u poe makamaka; No ka mea, ua hahau mai ka lima o ke Akua ia'u!
21Have pity on me, have pity on me, at least you my friends, because the hand of the Lord hath touched me.
22No ko aha la oukou e hahai mai ai ia'u, me he Akua la, Aole hoi oukou i maona i kuu io?
22Why do you persecute me as God, and glut yourselves with my flesh?
23Ina paha ano e kakauia ka'u mau olelo! Ina e palapalaia lakou iloko o ka buke!
23Who will grant me that my words may be written? Who will grant me that they may be marked down in a book?
24Me ka peni hao a me ke kepau, E kahakaha mau ia lakou iloko o ka pohaku!
24With an iron pen and in a plate of lead, or else be graven with an instrument in flint stone.
25No ka mea, ua ike au e ola ana kuu Mea hoola, A i ka wa mahope e ku no ia maluna o ka honua.
25For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and in the last day I shall rise out of the earth.
26A mahope o kuu ili, e hoopau na ilo i keia kino, Aka, ma kuu io e ike aku au i ke Akua.
26And I shall be clothed again with my skin, and in my flesh I will see my God.
27Oia ka'u e ike aku no'u iho, A e ike ko'u mau maka, aole ko hai; Ua kaniuhu kuu naau iloko o'u.
27Whom I myself shall see, and my eyes shall behold, and not another: this my hope is laid up in my bosom.
28Aka, e olelo oukou, No ke aha kakou e hoomaau ia ia, No ka mea, ua loaa ko kumu o ka mea iloko o'u?
28Why then do you say now: Let us persecute him, and let us find occasion of word against him?
29E makau oukou i ka pahikaua; No ka mea, o ka huhu, oia ka hewa no ka pahikaua, I ike oukou, he hoopai ana no.
29Flee then from the face of the sword, for the sword is the revenger of iniquities: and know ye that there is judgment.
