1My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, thou hast engaged fast thy hand to a stranger.
1Synu můj, slíbil-lis za přítele svého, podal-lis cizímu ruky své,
2Thou art ensnared with the words of thy mouth, and caught with thy own words.
2Zapleten jsi slovy úst svých, jat jsi řečmi úst svých.
3Do therefore, my son, what I say, and deliver thyself: because thou art fallen into the hand of thy neighbour. Run about, make haste, stir up thy friend:
3Učiniž tedy toto, synu můj, a vyprosť se, poněvadžs se dostal v ruku přítele svého. Jdi, pokoř se, a probuď přítele svého.
4Give not sleep to thy eyes, neither let thy eyelids slumber.
4Nedej usnouti očím svým, a zdřímati víčkám svým.
5Deliver thyself as a doe from the hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
5Vydři se jako srna z ruky, a jako pták z ruky čižebníka.
6Go to the ant, O sluggard, and consider her ways, and learn wisdom:
6Jdi k mravenci, lenochu, shlédni cesty jeho, a nabuď moudrosti.
7Which, although she hath no guide, nor master, nor captain,
7Kterýž nemaje vůdce, ani správce, ani pána,
8Provideth her meat for herself in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
8Připravuje v létě pokrm svůj, shromažďuje ve žni potravu svou.
9How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou rise out of thy sleep?
9Dokudž lenochu ležeti budeš? Skoro-liž vstaneš ze sna svého?
10Thou wilt sleep a little, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to sleep:
10Maličko pospíš, maličko zdřímeš, maličko složíš ruce, abys poležel,
11And want shall come upon thee, as a traveller, and poverty as a man armed. But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall come as a fountain, and want shall flee far from thee.
11V tom přijde jako pocestný chudoba tvá, a nouze tvá jako muž zbrojný.
12A man that is an apostate, an unprofitable man, walketh with a perverse mouth,
12Èlověk nešlechetný, muž nepravý chodí v převrácenosti úst.
13He winketh with the eyes, presseth with the foot, speaketh with the finger.
13Mhourá očima svýma, mluví nohama svýma, ukazuje prsty svými.
14With a wicked heart he deviseth evil, and at all times he soweth discord.
14Převrácenost všeliká jest v srdci jeho, smýšlí zlé všelikého času, sváry rozsívá.
15To such a one his destruction shall presently come, and he shall suddenly be destroyed, and shall no longer have any remedy.
15A protož v náhle přijde bída jeho, rychle setřín bude, a nebudeť uléčení.
16Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:
16Těchto šesti věcí nenávidí Hospodin, a sedmá ohavností jest duši jeho:
17Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
17Očí vysokých, jazyka lživého, a rukou vylévajících krev nevinnou,
18A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief,
18Srdce, kteréž ukládá myšlení nepravá, noh kvapných běžeti ke zlému,
19A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.
19Svědka lživého, mluvícího lež, a toho, jenž rozsívá různice mezi bratřími.
20My son, beep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
20Ostříhejž, synu můj, přikázaní otce svého, a neopouštěj naučení matky své.
21Bind them in thy heart continually, and put them about thy neck.
21Přivazuj je k srdci svému ustavičně, a k hrdlu svému je připínej.
22When thou walkest, let them go with thee: when thou sleepest, let them keep thee; and when thou awakest, talk with them.
22Kamžkoli půjdeš, ono tě zprovodí, když spáti budeš, bude tě ostříhati, a když procítíš, bude s tebou rozmlouvati,
23Because the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
23(Nebo přikázaní jest svíce, a naučení světlo, a cesta života jsou domlouvání vyučující),
24That they may keep thee from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the stranger.
24Aby tě ostříhalo od ženy zlé, od úlisnosti jazyka ženy cizí.
25Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks:
25Nežádejž krásy její v srdci svém, a nechať tě nejímá víčky svými.
26For the price of a harlot is scarce one loaf: but the woman catcheth the precious soul of a man.
26Nebo příčinou ženy cizoložné zchudl bys až do kusu chleba, anobrž žena cizoložná drahou duši ulovuje.
27Can a man hide fire in his bosom, and his garments not burn?
27Může-liž kdo skrýti oheň v klíně svém, aby roucho jeho se nepropálilo?
28Or can he walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be burnt?
28Může-liž kdo choditi po uhlí řeřavém, aby nohy jeho se neopálily?
29So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife, shall not be clean when he shall touch her.
29Tak kdož vchází k ženě bližního svého, nebudeť bez viny, kdož by se jí koli dotkl.
30The fault is not so great when a man hath stolen: for he stealeth to fill his hungry soul:
30Neuvozují potupy na zloděje, jestliže by ukradl, aby nasytil život svůj, když lační,
31And if he be taken he shall restore sevenfold, and shall give up all the substance of his house.
31Ač postižen jsa, navracuje to sedmernásobně, vším statkem domu svého nahražuje:
32But he that is an adulterer, for the folly of his heart shall destroy his own soul:
32Ale cizoložící s ženou blázen jest; kdož hubí duši svou, tenť to činí;
33He gathereth to himself shame and dishonour, and his reproach shall not be blotted out:
33Trápení a lehkosti dochází, a útržka jeho nebývá shlazena.
34Because the jealousy and rage of the husband will not spare in the day of revenge,
34Nebo zůřivý jest hněv muže, a neodpouštíť v den pomsty.
35Nor will he yield to any man’s prayers, nor will he accept for satisfaction ever so many gifts.
35Neohlídá se na žádnou záplatu, aniž přijímá, by i množství darů dával.
