1It is the part of man to prepare the soul: and of the Lord to govern the tongue.
1O KA makaukau o ko ke kanaka naau, A me ka pane ana o ke elelo, no Iehova mai ia.
2All the ways of a man are open to his eyes: the Lord is the weigher of spirits.
2O na aoao a pau o ke kanaka ua maemae i kona maka iho; Aka, kaupaona o Iehova i na uhane.
3Lay open thy works to the Lord: and thy thoughts shall be directed.
3E hooili aku i kau mau hana maluna o Iehova, A e hookupaaia kou mau manao.
4The Lord hath made all things for himself: the wicked also for the evil day.
4Hana iho la o Iehova i na mea a pau nona iho; I ka mea hewa hoi kekahi no ka la e poiuo ai.
5Every proud man is an abomination to the Lord: though hand should be joined to hand, he is not innocent. The beginning of a good way is to do justice; and this is more acceptable with God, than to offer sacrifices.
5He hoopailua ia Iehova na naau kiekie a pau; Ina e kui kahi lima i kahi lima, aole nae e ole kona hoopaiia.
6By mercy and truth iniquity is redeemed: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
6Ma ka lokomaikai a me ka oiaio ua kalaia ka hewa; Ma ka makau ia Iehova ka haalele ana i ka hewa.
7When the ways of man shall please the Lord, he will convert even his enemies to peace.
7I ka manao oluolu ana o Iehova i ka aoao o ke kanaka, Noho launa no kona poe enemi ia ia.
8Better is a little with justice, than great revenues with iniquity.
8Maikai kahi mea iki me ka pono hoi kekahi, Mamua o ka waiwai nui ke pono ole.
9The heart of man disposeth his way: but the Lord must direct his steps.
9Noonoo iho la ko ke kanaka naau i kona aoao iho; Aka, na Iehova e alakai i kona mau kapuwai.
10Divination is in the lips of the king, his mouth shall not err in judgment.
10Aia ka olelo kupono ma na lehelehe o ke alii; Ma ka hooponopono ana aole i hewa kona waha.
11Weight and balance are judgments of the Lord: and his work all the weights of the bag.
11O ke kaupaona a me na mea anapaona pololei, na Iehova no ia; O kana hana no na mea anapaona a pau iloko o ka eke.
12They that act wickedly are abominable to the king: for the throne is established by justice.
12He mea hoopailua no na alii ke hana hewa; No ka mea, ma ka pono i paa'i ka nohoalii.
13Just lips are the delight of kings: he that speaketh right things shall be loved.
13O ka makemake o na'lii. oia na lehelehe pono, A o ka mea olelo pololei, oia ka i alohaia.
14The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: and the wise man will pacify it.
14O ka huhu o ke alii, o na elele ia no ka make; O ke kanaka akamai, oia ke hoomaalili aku.
15In the cheerfulness of the king’s countenance is life: and his clemency is like the latter rain.
15Ma ka maka oluolu o ke alii ke ola, O kona lokomaikai hoi ua like me ke ao i ke kuaua hope.
16Get wisdom, because it is better than gold: and purchase prudence, for it is more precious than silver.
16O ka loaa ana o ke akamai, ua maikai ia mamua o ke gula; O ka loaa ana o ka naauao, e pono ke kohoia mamua o ke kala.
17The path of the just departeth from evils: he that keepeth his soul keepeth his way.
17O ke alanui o ka poe pololei, hele ae la ia mai ka hewa aku; O ka mea malama i kona uhane, oia ke kiai i kona aoao.
18Pride goeth before destruction: and the spirit is lifted up before a fall.
18Mamua o ka hina ana, ka haaheo, A mamua o ka haule ana ka naau kiekie.
19It is better to be humbled with the meek, than to divide spoils with the proud.
19E aho ka naau haahaa iwaena o ka poe akahai, Mamua o ka hoopuunaue ana i ka waiwai pio me ka poe haaheo.
20The learned in word shall find good things: and he that trusteth in the Lord is blessed.
20O ka mea huli pono i kekahi mea e loaa ia ia ka maikai: O ka mea paulele ia Iehova e pomaikai ana oia.
21The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and he that is sweet in words shall attain to greater things.
21O ka mea naau akamai, e kapaia he naauao; Ma ka oluolu o na lehelehe e mahuahua ai ka ike.
22Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesseth it: the instruction of fools is foolishness.
22He punawai ola ka naauao i ka mea nona ia; O ke aoia mai o ka poe lapuwale, he lapuwale no ia.
23The heart of the wise shall instruct his mouth: and shall add grace to his lips.
23O ka mea naauao, ao no oia i kona waha iho; Hooponopono hoi oia i kona mau lehelehe.
24Well ordered words are as a honeycomb: sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
24He mea ono na olelo oluolu. He ono i ka uhane, a he ola i ka iwi.
25There is a way that seemeth to a man right: and the ends thereof lead to death.
25Pololei kekahi aoao i ko ke kanaka manao; Aka, o kona hope, oia na aoao o ka make.
26The soul of him that laboureth, laboureth for himself, because his mouth hath obliged him to it.
26O ka mea hana, hana oia nana iho: O kona waha ka i koi mai ia ia.
27The wicked man diggeth evil, and in his lips is a burning fire.
27O ke kanaka aia, huai oia i ka ino; A ma kona mau lehelehe he ahi e aa ana.
28A perverse man stirreth up quarrels: and one full of words separateth princes.
28O ke kanaka hoopaapaa, hoeueu oia i ka hakaka; A o ka mea holoholo olelo, hookaawale no ia i na makamaka.
29An unjust man allureth his friend: and leadeth him into a way that is not good.
29O ke kanaka huhu, hoowalewale oia i kona hoalauna, Alakai hoi ia ia ma ka aoao maikai ole.
30He that with fixed eyes deviseth wicked things, biting his lips, bringeth: evil to pass.
30Hoopili oia i kona mau maka e noonoo ino ana: Naunau oia i kona lehelehe a hoomaopopo i ka hewa.
31Old age is a crown of dignity, when it is found in the ways of justice.
31He lei naui ke poohina, Ke loaa ia ma ka aoao o ka pono.
32The patient man is better than the valiant: and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh cities.
32Maikai ke ahonui mamua o ka ikaika; A o ka mea hoomalu i kona uhane mamua o ka mea hoopio I ke kulanakanhale.
33Lots are cast into the lap, but they are disposed of by the Lord.
33Ma ka puolo i hooleiia ai ka hailona, Na Iehova nae ka hooponopono ana.
