1耶和華曉諭 摩西 說：
1And the people marched from Haseroth, and pitched their tents in the desert of Pharan.
2「你打發人去窺探我所賜給 以色列 人的 迦南 地，他們每支派中要打發一個人，都要作首領的。」
2And there the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
3摩西 就照耶和華的吩咐從 巴蘭 的曠野打發他們去；他們都是 以色列 人的族長。
3Send men to view the land of Chanaan, which I will give to the children of Israel, one of every tribe, of the rulers.
4他們的名字：屬 呂便 支派的有 撒刻 的兒子 沙母亞 。
4Moses did what the Lord had commanded, sending from the desert of Pharan, principal men, whose names are these:
5屬 西緬 支派的有 何利 的兒子 沙法 。
5Of the tribe of Ruben, Sammua the son of Zechur.
6屬 猶大 支派的有 耶孚尼 的兒子 迦勒 。
6Of the tribe of Simeon, Saphat the son of Hurl.
7屬 以薩迦 支派的有 約色 的兒子 以迦 。
7Of the tribe of Juda, Caleb the son of Jephone.
8屬 以法蓮 支派的有 嫩 的兒子 何希阿 。
8Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
9屬 便雅憫 支派的有 拉孚 的兒子 帕提 。
9Of the tribe of Ephraim, Osee the son of Nun.

16Of the tribe of Gad, Guel the son of Machi.
17摩西 打發他們去窺探 迦南 地，說：「你們從南地上山地去，
17These are the names of the men, whom Moses sent to view the land: and he called Osee the son of Nun, Josue.
18看那地如何，其中所住的民是強是弱，是多是少，
18And Moses sent them to view the land of Chanaan, and said to them: Go you up by the south side. And when you shall come to the mountains,
19所住之地是好是歹，所住之處是營盤是堅城。
19View the land, of what sort it is: and the people that are the inhabitants thereof, whether they be strong or weak: few in number or many:
20又看那地土是肥美是瘠薄，其中有樹木沒有。你們要放開膽量，把那地的果子帶些來。」（那時正是葡萄初熟的時候。）
20The land itself, whether it be good or bad: what manner of cities, walled or without walls:
21他們上去窺探那地，從 尋 的曠野到 利合 ，直到 哈馬口 。
21The ground, fat or barren, woody or without trees. Be of good courage, and bring us of the fruits of the land. Now it was the time when the first ripe grapes are fit to be eaten.
22他們從南地上去，到了 希伯崙 ；在那裏有 亞衲 族人 亞希幔 、 示篩 、 撻買 。（原來 希伯崙 城被建造比 埃及 的 鎖安 城早七年。）
22And when they were gone up, they viewed the land from the desert of Sin, unto Rohob as you enter into Emath.
23他們到了 以實各谷 ，從那裏砍了葡萄樹的一枝，上頭有一掛葡萄，兩個人用槓抬着，又 帶了 些石榴和無花果來。（
23And they went up at the south side, and came to Hebron, where were Achiman and Sisai and Tholmai the sons of Enac. For Hebron was built seven years before Tanis the city of Egypt.
24因為 以色列 人從那裏砍來的那掛葡萄，所以那地方叫做 以實各谷 。）
24And going forward as far as the torrent of the cluster of grapes, they cut off a branch with its cluster of grapes, which two men carried upon a lever. They took also of the pomegranates and of the figs of that place:
25過了四十天，他們窺探那地才回來，
25Which was called Nehelescol, that is to say, the torrent of the cluster of grapes, because from thence the children of Israel had carried a cluster of grapes.
26到了 巴蘭 曠野的 加低斯 ，見 摩西 、 亞倫 ，並 以色列 的全會眾，回報 摩西 、 亞倫 ，並全會眾，又把那地的果子給他們看；
26And they that went to spy out the land returned after forty days, having gone round all the country,
27又告訴 摩西 說：「我們到了你所打發我們去的那地，果然是流奶與蜜之地；這就是那地的果子。
27And came to Moses and Aaron and to all the assembly of the children of Israel to the desert of Pharan, which is in Cades. And speaking to them and to all the multitude, they shewed them the fruits of the land:
28然而住那地的民強壯，城邑也堅固寬大，並且我們在那裏看見了 亞衲 族的人。
28And they related and said: We came into the land to which thou sentest us, which in very deed floweth with milk and honey as may be known by these fruits:
29亞瑪力 人住在南地； 赫 人、 耶布斯 人、 亞摩利 人住在山地； 迦南 人住在海邊並 約旦河 旁。」
29But it hath very strong inhabitants, and the cities are great and walled. We saw there the race of Enac.
30迦勒 在 摩西 面前安撫百姓，說：「我們立刻上去得那地吧！我們足能得勝。」
30Amalec dwelleth in the south, the Hethite and the Jebusite and the Amorrhite in the mountains: but the Chanaanite abideth by the sea and near the streams of the Jordan.
31但那些和他同去的人說：「我們不能上去攻擊那民，因為他們比我們強壯。」
31In the mean time Caleb, to still the murmuring of the people that rose against Moses, said: Let us go up and possess the land, for we shall be able to conquer it.
32探子 中有 人論到所窺探之地，向 以色列 人報惡信，說：「我們所窺探、經過之地是吞吃居民之地，我們在那裏所看見的人民都身量高大。
32But the others, that had been with him, said: No, we are not able to go up to this people, because they are stronger than we.
33我們在那裏看見 亞衲 族人，就是偉人；他們是偉人的後裔。據我們看，自己就如蚱蜢一樣；據他們看，我們也是如此。」
33And they spoke ill of the land, which they had viewed, before the children of Israel, saying: The land which we have viewed, devoureth its inhabitants: the people, that we beheld, are of a tall stature.

34There we saw certain monsters of the sons of Enac, of the giant kind: in comparison of whom, we seemed like locusts.
