1І рече Господь Мойсейові:
1And the people marched from Haseroth, and pitched their tents in the desert of Pharan.
2Пішли людей на розглядини в Канаан землю, що дам її синам Ізрайлевим; по одному чоловікові з батьківських поколїнь їх пошлете їх, кожного князя спроміж їх.
2And there the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
3І післав їх Мойсей із Паран степу, по слову Господньому, саміх таких людей що були голови в синів Ізрайлевих.
3Send men to view the land of Chanaan, which I will give to the children of Israel, one of every tribe, of the rulers.
4А се ймення їх: Від поколїння Рубенового, Шамуа Сакуренко;
4Moses did what the Lord had commanded, sending from the desert of Pharan, principal men, whose names are these:
5Від поколїння Симеонового, Шафат Хоріенко;
5Of the tribe of Ruben, Sammua the son of Zechur.
6Від поколїння Юдиного, Калеб Ефуненко;
6Of the tribe of Simeon, Saphat the son of Hurl.
7Від поколїння Іссахарового, Їгаль, син Йосифа;
7Of the tribe of Juda, Caleb the son of Jephone.
8Від поколїння Ефраїмового, Гозей Нуненко;
8Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
9Від поколїння Беняминового, Пальтїй Рафуенко;
9Of the tribe of Ephraim, Osee the son of Nun.
10Від поколїння Зебулонового, Гаддієль Содіенко;
10Of the tribe of Benjamin, Phalti the son of Raphu.
11Від поколїння Йосифового, роду Манассеєвого, Гаддій Сузіенко;
11Of the tribe of Zabulon, Geddiel the son of Sodi.
12Від поколїння Данового, Аммієль Гемалїенко;
12Of the tribe of Joseph, of the sceptre of Manasses, Gaddi the son of Susi.
13Від поколїння Ассерового, Сефур Михайленко;
13Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
14Від поколїння Нефталїєвого, Нагбій Вафсіенко;
14Of the tribe of Aser, Sthur the son of Michael.
15Від поколїння Гадового, Геуель Махізенко.
15Of the tribe of Nephtali, Nahabi the son of Vapsi.
16Се імення мужів громадських, що їх післав Мойсей розгледїти землю. Гозейю ж Нуненка назвав Мойсей Йозуа.
16Of the tribe of Gad, Guel the son of Machi.
17І післав їх Мойсей розгледїти Канаан землю, кажучи їм: Ідїте сюди на полудне, та й зійдете на гору.
17These are the names of the men, whom Moses sent to view the land: and he called Osee the son of Nun, Josue.
18І подивитесь на землю, яка вона; і люд, що живе в їй, чи міцний, чи слабовитий, малий, чи великий;
18And Moses sent them to view the land of Chanaan, and said to them: Go you up by the south side. And when you shall come to the mountains,
19І яка земля та, де вони живуть, добра, чи зла, і які міста, що в їх живуть вони, табори, чи утвержені міста?
19View the land, of what sort it is: and the people that are the inhabitants thereof, whether they be strong or weak: few in number or many:
20І яка земля: родюща вона, чи скуповата; чи є по їй дерево, чи нема? І бувайте сьміливі, та принесїть з плоду землї. А був тодї саме час, що дозрів виноград.
20The land itself, whether it be good or bad: what manner of cities, walled or without walls:
21І пійшли вони, розгледїли землю від Зин степу до Регобу, як ійти до Гамату.
21The ground, fat or barren, woody or without trees. Be of good courage, and bring us of the fruits of the land. Now it was the time when the first ripe grapes are fit to be eaten.
22І повернули на полудне, і дійшли до Геброну, а там Ахіман, Сесай і Тальмай, дїти Енакові. Геброн же збудовано за сїм років перед Зоаном в Египтї.
22And when they were gone up, they viewed the land from the desert of Sin, unto Rohob as you enter into Emath.
23І дійшли до Есколь долини, і зрізали там вітку з однією гроною ягод, та й несли її два на жердцї, також і гранати і смокви.
23And they went up at the south side, and came to Hebron, where were Achiman and Sisai and Tholmai the sons of Enac. For Hebron was built seven years before Tanis the city of Egypt.
24Урочище те названо Єсколь долиною через виноград, що зрізали там сини Ізрайлеві.
24And going forward as far as the torrent of the cluster of grapes, they cut off a branch with its cluster of grapes, which two men carried upon a lever. They took also of the pomegranates and of the figs of that place:
25І вернулись вони після розглядин під конець сорока днїв;
25Which was called Nehelescol, that is to say, the torrent of the cluster of grapes, because from thence the children of Israel had carried a cluster of grapes.
26І йдучи прийшли до Мойсея та Арона, до всієї громади синів Ізрайлевих, у Паран степу, до Кадесу; і принесли вістку їм і всїй громадї і показали їм плоди землї.
26And they that went to spy out the land returned after forty days, having gone round all the country,
27І оповідали йому кажучи: Прийшли ми в землю, де ти посилав нас, і справдї: тече вона молоком та медом, і се плоди її.
27And came to Moses and Aaron and to all the assembly of the children of Israel to the desert of Pharan, which is in Cades. And speaking to them and to all the multitude, they shewed them the fruits of the land:
28Тільки що потужен люд, що живе в тій землї, і утверджені міста вельми великі; та й Енакових дїтей бачили ми там.
28And they related and said: We came into the land to which thou sentest us, which in very deed floweth with milk and honey as may be known by these fruits:
29Амалек живе в землї полуденнїй, а Гетії, і Євузії, і Аморії живуть по горах, а Канаанїї живуть над морем і здовж берегів Іорданських.
29But it hath very strong inhabitants, and the cities are great and walled. We saw there the race of Enac.
30І втихомирив Калеб людей, що противились Мойсейові, та й промовив: Пійдемо таки та й займем її, стане бо сили в нас впокорити її.
30Amalec dwelleth in the south, the Hethite and the Jebusite and the Amorrhite in the mountains: but the Chanaanite abideth by the sea and near the streams of the Jordan.
31Ті ж чоловіки, що з ним ходили у гори, мовляли: Не буде в нас сили увійти між сїх людей, вони бо сильнїйші, як ми.
31In the mean time Caleb, to still the murmuring of the people that rose against Moses, said: Let us go up and possess the land, for we shall be able to conquer it.
32І рознесли вони між синами Ізрайлевими недобрі вісти про землю, що розглядували самі, мовляючи: Земля, що нею проходили ми, щоб розвідати, така земля, що жере осадників своїх, і ввесь люд, що ми бачили серед неї, се люде великого росту.
32But the others, that had been with him, said: No, we are not able to go up to this people, because they are stronger than we.
33І бачили ми там велетнїв, синів Енакових, з роду велетнїв; і самим нам здавалось, наче ми тая сараньча, і такими ж були в очах їх.
33And they spoke ill of the land, which they had viewed, before the children of Israel, saying: The land which we have viewed, devoureth its inhabitants: the people, that we beheld, are of a tall stature.

34There we saw certain monsters of the sons of Enac, of the giant kind: in comparison of whom, we seemed like locusts.
