1Voor muziekbegeleiding. Van de zonen van Kore. Met sopraanstemmen. Een lied. God is onze toevlucht en sterkte Een machtige hulp in de nood:
1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2Dus vrezen wij niets, al wordt de aarde uit haar voegen gerukt, En schudden de bergen in het diepst van de zee;
2Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas;
3Al bruisen en schuimen haar wateren, En rillen de bergen door haar geweld! Jahweh der heirscharen is met ons, Onze burcht is Jakobs God!
3though its waters roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with their swelling. Selah.
4Een vloed met zijn stromen brengt de Godsstad in vreugde, De heilige stede van den Allerhoogste.
4There is a river, the streams of which make the city of God glad, the holy place of the tents of the Most High.
5God is daarbinnen, nooit zal zij wankelen; God zal haar helpen, als de dageraad komt:
5God is within her. She shall not be moved. God will help her at dawn.
6Al woeden de volken, al wankelen de staten, Al beeft de aarde door de stem van zijn donder!
6The nations raged. The kingdoms were moved. He lifted his voice and the earth melted.
7Jahweh der heirscharen is met ons, Onze burcht is Jakobs God!
7The LORD of Armies is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
8Komt dan, en ziet de werken van Jahweh, Die wonderen op de aarde wrocht:
8Come, see the LORD’s works, what desolations he has made on the earth.
9Die de oorlogen bant buiten de grenzen der aarde, De bogen breekt, de lansen vernielt, de wagens verbrandt.
9He makes wars cease to the end of the earth. He breaks the bow, and shatters the spear. He burns the chariots in the fire.
10Houdt op! Erkent, dat Ik God ben, Hoog boven de volkeren, verheven op aarde!
10“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted on the earth.”
11Jahweh der heirscharen is met ons, Onze burcht is Jakobs God!
11The LORD of Armies is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
