1And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
1ชาวคานาอัน คือกษัตริย์แห่งอาราดซึ่งอาศัยอยู่ในดินแดนตอนใต้ ได้ยินว่าอิสราเอลกำลังมาตามทางอาธาริม เขาจึงสู้รบกับอิสราเอลและจับบางคนไปเป็นเชลย
2And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD , and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
2อิสราเอลปฏิญาณต่อพระยาห์เวห์ว่า “ถ้าพระองค์ทรงมอบชนชาตินี้ไว้ในมือของข้าพระองค์จริง ๆ ข้าพระองค์จะทำลายเมืองต่าง ๆ ของพวกเขาให้หมดสิ้น”
3And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.
3พระยาห์เวห์ทรงฟังเสียงของอิสราเอล และทรงมอบชาวคานาอันให้ พวกเขาจึงทำลายคนเหล่านั้นกับเมืองต่าง ๆ ให้หมดสิ้น สถานที่นั้นจึงได้ชื่อว่าโฮรมาห์
4¶ And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
4พวกเขาออกเดินทางจากภูเขาโฮร์ไปตามทางสู่ทะเลแดง เพื่ออ้อมแผ่นดินเอโดม ประชาชนท้อใจอย่างมากเพราะการเดินทาง
5And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
5ประชาชนพูดต่อต้านพระเจ้าและโมเสสว่า “ทำไมพวกท่านจึงพาเราออกจากอียิปต์มาตายในถิ่นทุรกันดาร? ที่นี่ไม่มีขนมปัง ไม่มีน้ำ และเราเบื่อหน่ายอาหารน่ารังเกียจนี้เต็มทีแล้ว!”
6And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
6พระยาห์เวห์ทรงส่งงูพิษเข้ามาท่ามกลางประชาชน มันกัดผู้คน และชาวอิสราเอลตายเป็นจำนวนมาก
7¶ Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD , and against thee; pray unto the LORD , that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
7ประชาชนมาหาโมเสสและพูดว่า “เราทำบาปแล้ว เพราะเราพูดต่อต้านพระยาห์เวห์และต่อต้านท่าน ขอท่านอธิษฐานต่อพระยาห์เวห์ให้พระองค์ทรงนำงูเหล่านี้ออกไปจากเรา” โมเสสจึงอธิษฐานเพื่อประชาชน
8And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
8พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า “จงทำรูปงูพิษและติดไว้บนเสา เมื่อใครถูกกัดและมองดูรูปงูนั้น เขาจะมีชีวิตอยู่”
9And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
9โมเสสจึงทำงูทองสัมฤทธิ์และติดไว้บนเสา เมื่อใดที่งูกัดใคร ถ้าคนนั้นมองดูงูทองสัมฤทธิ์ เขาก็มีชีวิตอยู่
10¶ And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.
10ชาวอิสราเอลออกเดินทางและตั้งค่ายที่โอโบท
11And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije-abarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
11พวกเขาออกเดินทางจากโอโบทและตั้งค่ายที่อิเยอาบาริม ในถิ่นทุรกันดารด้านหน้าโมอับทางทิศตะวันออก
12¶ From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.
12จากที่นั่น พวกเขาออกเดินทางและตั้งค่ายในหุบเขาเศเรด
13From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
13จากที่นั่น พวกเขาออกเดินทางและตั้งค่ายอีกฟากหนึ่งของแม่น้ำอารโนน ซึ่งอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารที่ทอดออกจากเขตแดนของชาวอาโมไรต์ เพราะแม่น้ำอารโนนเป็นชายแดนของโมอับ อยู่ระหว่างโมอับกับชาวอาโมไรต์
14Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD , What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
14ด้วยเหตุนี้จึงมีข้อความใน หนังสือสงครามของพระยาห์เวห์ ว่า “วาเฮบในสุฟาห์ และหุบเขาต่าง ๆ แห่งอารโนน
15And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.
15รวมทั้งเนินลาดของหุบเขาซึ่งเอียงไปทางที่อยู่ของอาร์ และพาดอยู่ตามชายแดนโมอับ”
16And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
16จากที่นั่นพวกเขาออกเดินทางไปยังเบเออร์ นี่คือบ่อน้ำที่พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า “จงเรียกประชาชนมารวมกัน แล้วเราจะให้น้ำแก่พวกเขา”
17¶ Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
17แล้วอิสราเอลร้องเพลงนี้ว่า “บ่อน้ำเอ๋ย จงมีน้ำผุดขึ้นมา! จงร้องเพลงให้บ่อน้ำนี้
18The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
18บ่อน้ำซึ่งบรรดาผู้นำขุดไว้ ซึ่งเหล่าผู้ทรงเกียรติของประชาชนขุดไว้ ด้วยคทาและไม้เท้าของพวกเขา” จากถิ่นทุรกันดาร พวกเขาออกเดินทางไปมัทธานาห์
19And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
19จากมัทธานาห์ไปนาฮาลิเอล จากนาฮาลิเอลไปบาโมท
20And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
20และจากบาโมทไปยังหุบเขาในที่ราบโมอับ ถึงยอดปิสกาห์ซึ่งมองลงไปเห็นถิ่นกันดาร
21¶ And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
21อิสราเอลส่งผู้ส่งสารไปหาสิโหนกษัตริย์แห่งชาวอาโมไรต์ว่า
22Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders.
22“ขอให้เราผ่านแผ่นดินของท่าน เราจะไม่เลี้ยวเข้าไปในไร่นาหรือสวนองุ่น และจะไม่ดื่มน้ำจากบ่อน้ำ เราจะเดินไปตามทางหลวงของกษัตริย์จนกว่าจะพ้นเขตแดนของท่าน”
23And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
23แต่สิโหนไม่ยอมให้อิสราเอลผ่านเขตแดนของเขา สิโหนรวบรวมประชาชนทั้งหมดของเขา ออกไปเผชิญหน้ากับอิสราเอลในถิ่นทุรกันดาร และมาถึงยาฮาส เขาสู้รบกับอิสราเอล
24And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
24อิสราเอลใช้คมดาบฆ่าเขาและยึดครองแผ่นดินของเขาตั้งแต่แม่น้ำอารโนนถึงแม่น้ำยับบอก จนถึงเขตแดนของชาวอัมโมน เพราะเขตแดนของชาวอัมโมนมีการป้องกันอย่างแข็งแกร่ง
25And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
25อิสราเอลยึดเมืองเหล่านี้ทั้งหมด และอาศัยอยู่ในเมืองทั้งหมดของชาวอาโมไรต์ ทั้งในเฮชโบนและหมู่บ้านโดยรอบทั้งหมด
26For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.
26เพราะเฮชโบนเป็นเมืองของสิโหนกษัตริย์แห่งชาวอาโมไรต์ ซึ่งเคยสู้รบกับกษัตริย์องค์ก่อนของโมอับ และยึดแผ่นดินทั้งหมดจากมือของเขาจนถึงแม่น้ำอารโนน
27Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:
27ดังนั้นผู้กล่าวสุภาษิตจึงกล่าวว่า “จงมายังเฮชโบน ให้เมืองของสิโหนถูกสร้างขึ้นและตั้งมั่น
28For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.
28เพราะไฟออกมาจากเฮชโบน เปลวไฟออกมาจากเมืองของสิโหน มันเผาผลาญอาร์แห่งโมอับ และบรรดาผู้ครอบครองที่สูงแห่งอารโนน
29Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
29โมอับเอ๋ย วิบัติแก่เจ้า! ประชาชนของเคโมชเอ๋ย เจ้าถูกทำลายแล้ว! เขาปล่อยให้บรรดาลูกชายของเขาต้องหลบหนี และบรรดาลูกสาวของเขาตกเป็นเชลย แก่สิโหนกษัตริย์แห่งชาวอาโมไรต์
30We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
30เรายิงพวกเขา เฮชโบนพินาศไปจนถึงดีโบน เราทำลายจนถึงโนฟาห์ ซึ่งทอดไปถึงเมเดบา”
31¶ Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
31ดังนั้นอิสราเอลจึงอาศัยอยู่ในแผ่นดินของชาวอาโมไรต์
32And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.
32โมเสสส่งคนไปสอดแนมยาเซอร์ พวกเขายึดหมู่บ้านโดยรอบและขับไล่ชาวอาโมไรต์ที่อยู่ที่นั่น
33¶ And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
33แล้วพวกเขาหันไปขึ้นตามทางสู่บาชาน โอกกษัตริย์แห่งบาชานพร้อมกับประชาชนทั้งหมดออกมาเผชิญหน้ากับพวกเขาเพื่อสู้รบที่เอเดรอี
34And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
34พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า “อย่ากลัวเขาเลย เพราะเราได้มอบเขา ประชาชนทั้งหมด และแผ่นดินของเขาไว้ในมือของเจ้าแล้ว เจ้าจงทำกับเขาเหมือนที่เจ้าทำกับสิโหนกษัตริย์แห่งชาวอาโมไรต์ ซึ่งอาศัยอยู่ที่เฮชโบน”
35So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
35พวกเขาจึงฆ่าโอกพร้อมกับบรรดาลูกชายและประชาชนทั้งหมดของเขาจนไม่เหลือผู้รอดชีวิต แล้วพวกเขาก็ยึดครองแผ่นดินของเขา
