1(4-14) Now shalt thou gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops; they have laid siege against us; they smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
1軍勢の娘よ、今、隊を組め。 われわれは包囲されている。 彼らは杖で、 イスラエルの裁き人の頬を打つ。
2(5-1) But thou, Beth-lehem Ephrathah, which art little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of thee shall one come forth unto Me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from ancient days.
2しかし、ベツレヘム・エフラタよ、 あなたはユダの氏族の中で小さいが、 あなたの中から、イスラエルを治める者が私のために出て来る。 その起こりは昔から、いにしえの日々からである。
3(5-2) Therefore will He give them up, until the time that she who travaileth hath brought forth; then the residue of his brethren shall return with the children of Israel.
3それゆえ、産婦が子を産む時まで、 彼らは引き渡される。 その後、彼の兄弟の残りの者は、イスラエルの民に帰って来る。
4(5-3) And he shall stand, and shall feed his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide, for then shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
4彼は立ち、主の力によって、 彼の神、主の御名の威光によって群れを養う。 民は安らかに住む。 その時、彼は地の果てに至るまで大いなる者となるからだ。
5(5-4) And this shall be peace: when the Assyrian shall come into our land, and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight princes among men.
5この方がわれわれの平和となる。 アッシリアがわれわれの地に侵入し、 われわれの要塞の中を進む時、 われわれは七人の羊飼いと、 八人の指導者を彼に立ち向かわせる。
6(5-5) And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod with the keen-edged sword; and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our border.
6彼らは剣でアッシリアの地を治め、 ニムロデの地を、その門々で治める。 アッシリア人がわれわれの地に侵入し、 われわれの領土を踏み荒らす時、 この方がわれわれを彼から救い出す。
7(5-6) And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples, as dew from the LORD, as showers upon the grass, that are not looked for from man, nor awaited at the hands of the sons of men.
7ヤコブの残りの者は、多くの民の間で、 主からの露のようになり、 草の上に降る雨のようになる。 それは人を待たず、 人間を頼みとしない。
8(5-7) And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep, who, if he go through, treadeth down and teareth in pieces, and there is none to deliver.
8ヤコブの残りの者は、諸国民の間で、 多くの民の間で、 森の獣の中にいる獅子のように、 羊の群れの中にいる若い獅子のようになる。 その獅子が通り過ぎれば、踏みつけ、引き裂く。 救い出す者は一人もいない。
9(5-8) Let Thy hand be lifted up above Thine adversaries, and let all Thine enemies be cut off.
9あなたの手が敵の上に高く上げられ、 あなたの敵がことごとく断ち滅ぼされるように。
10(5-9) And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and will destroy thy chariots;
10主は言われる。 「その日、私はあなたの中から馬を絶やし、 戦車を滅ぼす。
11(5-10) And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and will throw down all thy strongholds;
11あなたの地の町々を滅ぼし、 すべての要塞を打ち壊す。
12(5-11) And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thy hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers;
12あなたの手から魔術を取り除く。 あなたの中に占い師はいなくなる。
13(5-12) And I will cut off thy graven images and thy pillars out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thy hands.
13あなたの中から刻んだ像と石の柱を取り除く。 あなたはもう、自分の手で造ったものを拝まない。
14(5-13) And I will pluck up thy Asherim out of the midst of thee; and I will destroy thine enemies.
14あなたの中からアシェラ柱を根こそぎにし、 あなたの町々を滅ぼす。
15(5-14) And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the nations, because they hearkened not.
15私は、聞き従わなかった国々に、 怒りと憤りをもって復讐する。」
