1When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.
1「イスラエルが幼いころ、私は彼を愛し、 エジプトから私の子を呼び出した。
2The more they called them, the more they went from them; they sacrificed unto the Baalim, and offered to graven images.
2彼らが呼びかければ呼びかけるほど、 イスラエルは彼らから遠ざかった。 バアルたちにいけにえをささげ、 刻んだ像に香をたいた。
3And I, I taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.
3それでも、エフライムに歩くことを教え、 その腕を取ったのは私であった。 しかし彼らは、私が癒したことを知らなかった。
4I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love; and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I fed them gently.
4私は人の綱、愛の絆で彼らを引いた。 私は彼らにとって、彼らの首からくびきを持ち上げる者のようであった。 私は身をかがめて、彼らに食物を与えた。
5He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.
5彼らはエジプトの地には帰らない。 アッシリア人が彼らの王となる。 彼らは立ち返ることを拒んだ。
6And the sword shall fall upon his cities, and shall consume his bars, and devour them, because of their own counsels.
6剣は彼らの町々に襲いかかり、 その門のかんぬきを打ち砕き、 彼らの計画を終わらせる。
7And My people are in suspense about returning to Me; and though they call them upwards, none at all will lift himself up.
7私の民は、私から離れ去ろうと心を定めている。 彼らがいと高き方に呼びかけても、 主は彼らを決して引き上げない。
8How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? How shall I surrender thee, Israel? How shall I make thee as Admah? How shall I set thee as Zeboim? My heart is turned within Me, My compassions are kindled together.
8エフライムよ、どうしてあなたを見捨てられるだろうか。 イスラエルよ、どうしてあなたを引き渡せるだろうか。 どうしてあなたをアデマのようにできるだろうか。 どうしてあなたをツェボイムのようにできるだろうか。 私の心は内で翻り、 あわれみが激しく燃え上がる。
9I will not execute the fierceness of Mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim; for I am God, and not man, the Holy One in the midst of thee; and I will not come in fury.
9私は激しい怒りを下すことはしない。 再びエフライムを滅ぼすことはしない。 私は神であって、人ではない。 あなたがたのただ中にいる聖なる者。 私は怒りをもって来ない。
10They shall walk after the LORD, who shall roar like a lion; for He shall roar, and the children shall come trembling from the west.
10彼らは主の後に従って歩む。 主は獅子のようにほえる。 主がほえると、子らは西から震えながらやって来る。
11They shall come trembling as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will make them to dwell in their houses, saith the LORD.
11彼らはエジプトから鳥のように震えながら来る。 アッシリアの地から鳩のように来る。 私は彼らを、その家々に住まわせる」 と主は言われる。
12(12-1) Ephraim compasseth Me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit; and Judah is yet wayward towards God, and towards the Holy One who is faithful.
12エフライムは偽りで私を取り囲み、 イスラエルの家は欺きで私を囲んでいる。 ユダはなお神から離れてさまよい、 聖なる方に不忠実である。
