1そこで何よりもまず、すべての人のために、願い、祈り、執り成し、感謝をささげるよう勧めます。
1First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—
2王たちと高い地位にあるすべての人々のためにも祈りなさい。それは、私たちがあらゆる敬虔と品位のうちに、平穏で静かな生活を送るためです。
2for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.
3これは良いことであり、私たちの救い主である神に喜ばれることです。
3This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
4神はすべての人が救われ、真理を十分に知るようになることを望んでおられます。
4who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5神は唯一であり、神と人との間の仲介者もただひとり、人であるキリスト・イエスです。
5For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
6キリストは、すべての人のための身代金としてご自分をささげられました。これこそ、定められた時に示された証しです。
6who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.
7この証しのために、私は宣教者また使徒に任命されました。私はキリストにあって真実を語っており、偽ってはいません。信仰と真理をもって異邦人を教える者です。
7For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything.
8ですから私は、男たちがどこででも、怒ったり疑ったりせず、聖なる手を上げて祈ることを願います。
8Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.
9同じように、女性も慎みと節度をもって、品位ある服装で身を飾りなさい。編んだ髪や金、真珠、高価な衣服によってではなく、
9Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
10神を敬うと公言する女性にふさわしく、良い行いによって身を飾りなさい。
10but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.
11女性は十分な従順さをもって、静かに学びなさい。
11A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness.
12私は、女性が教えたり、男性に権威を振るったりすることを許しません。むしろ、静かにしているべきです。
12I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet.
13アダムが最初に造られ、その後にエバが造られたからです。
13For Adam was formed first, and then Eve.
14また、アダムは欺かれませんでしたが、女性は欺かれ、命令に背きました。
14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.
15しかし女性は、子を産むことを通して救われます。ただし、彼女たちが慎み深く、信仰と愛と聖さにとどまり続けるならです。
15Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.
