1The words of Gatherer the son of Vomiter. The vision which the man spoke with whom God is, and who being strengthened by God, abiding with him, said:
1Jakeh capa Agur mah thuih ih, palunghahaih loknawk loe hae tiah oh; kami maeto mah, Ithiel, Ithiel hoi Ukal khaeah, taphong pae;
2I am the most foolish of men, and the wisdom of men is not with me.
2kai loe minawk boih pongah poek ka ham kue, kami poekhaih to ka tawn ai.
3I have not learned wisdom, and have not known the science of saints.
3Palunghahaih to kam tuk ai moe, ciimhaih kawng doeh ka panoek ai.
4Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? who hath held the wind in his hands? who hath bound up the waters together as in a garment? who hath raised up all the borders of the earth? what is his name, and what is the name of his son, if thou knowest?
4Mi maw van ah daw tahang moe, long ah anghum tathuk? Azom pui ah takhi naeh kami loe mi maw? Mi maw kahni pongah tui tapawk vai? Long boenghaih ahmuennawk boih caksakkung loe mi maw? To tiah sahkung ih ahmin hoi a caa ih ahmin loe mi maw? Na thui thai tih maw?
5Every word of God is fire tried: he is a buckler to them that hope in him.
5Sithaw ih lok loe ciim boih; anih loe angmah khae amha kaminawk boih hanah abuephaih ah oh.
6Add not any thing to his words, lest thou be reproved, and found a liar:
6Angraeng ih lok to patomh hmah, to tih ai nahaeloe anih mah na zoeh ueloe, na thuih ih amsawnlok to amtueng moeng tih.
7Two things I have asked of thee, deny them not to me before I die.
7Aw Angraeng, ka dueh ai naah nang sak pae hanah, hnik ih hmuen hnetto oh;
8Remove far from me vanity, and lying words. Give me neither beggary, nor riches: give me only the necessaries of life:
8amsoem ai lok hoi amsawn lok hae kai khae hoiah na takhoe pae ving ah; amtanghaih hoi angraenghaih doeh na paek hmah; ni thokkruek caak khawt caaknaek to na paek ah:
9Lest perhaps being filled, I should be tempted to deny, and say: Who is the Lord? or being compelled by poverty, I should steal, and forswear the name of my God.
10Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou fall.
10Angmah ih angraeng khaeah tamna sethaih kawng to thui hmah, kasae na thuih nahaeloe nang to na pasoih ueloe, na nuiah zaehaih om moeng tih.
11There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
11Ampa to kasae thui kami, amno tahamhoihaih paek ai kami to oh.
12A generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.
12Angmacae amhnonghaih to pasae ai ah, angmah mik ah kai loe ciim, tiah poekhaih tawn kami to oh.
13A generation, whose eyes are lofty, and their eyelids lifted up on high.
13Amoekhaih hoiah mikpadai kami, patoekhaih hoi minawk khen kami to oh.
14A generation, that for teeth hath swords, and grindeth with their jaw teeth, to devour the needy from off the earth, and the poor from among men.
14Haa loe sumsen baktiah oh moe, long ah kaom kamtang hoi mithoenawk to paaeh hanah, toektaboe ahuh haita baktih kaom kami doeh oh.
15The horseleech hath two daughters that say: Bring, bring. There are three things that never are satisfied, and the fourth never saith: It is enough.
15Taqawt loe canu hnetto tawnh; nihnik loe na paek ah, na paek ah, tiah hangh hoi. Amhah thai ai hmuen thumto oh, ue, khawt boeh, tiah thui vai ai hmuen palitonawk loe,
16Hell, and the mouth of the womb, and the earth which is not satisfied with water: and the fire never saith: It is enough.
16taprong, caa kak nongpata ih zok, tui amhah thai ai long karoem; zetto mah tiah thui vai ai hmai.
17The eye that mocketh at his father, and that despiseth the labour of his mother in bearing him, let the ravens of the brooks pick it out, and the young eagles eat it.
17Ampa pahnui thuih moe, amno patoek kami loe, azawn ih pangaahnawk mah anih ih mik to taprok pae ueloe, tahmunawk mah a ngan to caa o tih.
18Three things are hard to me, and the fourth I am utterly ignorant of.
18Ka dawnrai ih hmuen thumto khue ai ah, ka panoek thai ai ih hmuen palitonawk loe,
19The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man in youth.
19van ih tahmu azawkhaih loklam, cathaeng nui ih pahui caehhaih loklam, tuipui thung ih palongpui caehhaih loklam, thendoeng mah tangla paqaihaih loklam hae ni.
20Such is also the way of an adulterous woman, who eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith: I have done no evil.
20Sava nuiah oep om ai nongpata caehhaih loklam doeh to tiah oh; to nongpata loe buh to caak moe, pakha a huk pacoengah, kai loe hmuen sakpazaehaih ka tawn ai, tiah thuih.
21By three things the earth is disturbed, and the fourth it cannot bear:
21Long tasoehsak hmuen thumto khue ai ah, pauep thai ai ih hmuen palitonawk loe,
22By a slave when he reigneth: by a fool when he is filled with meat:
22siangpahrang ah kangcoeng tamna, caaknaek tawn mangh kamthu;
23By an odious woman when she is married: and by a bondwoman when she is heir to her mistress.
23amram aak nongpata sava sakhaih hoi tamna nongpata mah angraeng ih qawktoephaih hae ni.
24There are four very little things of the earth, and they are wiser than the wise:
24Long nuiah tetta ah ni oh, toe paroeai palungha hmuen palitonawk loe,
25The ants, a feeble people, which provide themselves food in the harvest:
25thacak ai, toe nipui tueah caaknaek patung thaih, cahmatnawk;
26The rabbit, a weak people, which maketh its bed in the rock:
26thacak ai, toe lungsong thungah tabu sah savehnawk;
27The locust hath no king, yet they all go out by their bands.
27siangpahrang tawn ai, toe nawnto hmabangah kacaeh pakhunawk;
28The stellio supporteth itself on hands, and dwelleth in kings’ houses.
28angmah ih ban hoiah angdoet, toe siangpahrang im ah ohhaih ahmuen katawn caneknawk cae hae ni.
29There are three things, which go well, and the fourth that walketh happily:
29Kahoih ah kacaeh thaih hmuen thumto khue ai, ue, kahoih ah kacaeh thaih hmuen palitonawk loe,
30A lion, the strongest of beasts, who hath no fear of any thing he meeteth:
30kasan moinawk thungah thacak koek, kawbaktih hmuen om cadoeh hnuk angnawk taak ai kaipui;
31A cock girded about the loins: and a ram: and a king, whom none can resist.
31misatukhaih hrang, maeh tae hoi misa tawn ai siangpahrang cae hae ni.
32There is that hath appeared a fool after he was lifted up on high: for if he had understood, he would have laid his hand upon his mouth.
32Kamthu ah nang coeng moe, nangmah hoi nangmah nam koeh naah maw, to tih ai boeh loe kahoih ai hmuen na poek naah maw, na pakha to tamuep khoep ah!
33And he that strongly squeezeth the papa to bring out milk, straineth out butter: and he that violently bloweth his nose, bringeth out blood: and he that provoketh wrath bringeth forth strife.
33Maitaw tahnutui loe ahaeh khing nahaeloe, amkhawk tih, hnah doeh na hnoih khing nahaeloe, athii long tih; to baktih toengah palungphui hanah pahrue khing nahaeloe, angzoehhaih to om tih.
