1After Abimelech there arose a ruler in Israel, Thola son of Phua the uncle of Abimelech, a man of Issachar, who dwelt in Samir of mount Ephraim:
1亞比米勒 以後，有 以薩迦 人 朵多 的孫子、 普瓦 的兒子 陀拉 興起，拯救 以色列 人。他住在 以法蓮 山地的 沙密 。
2And he judged Israel three and twenty years, and he died and was buried in Samir.
2陀拉 作 以色列 的士師二十三年，就死了，葬在 沙密 。
3To him succeeded Jair the Galaadite, who judged Israel for two and twenty years.
3在他以後有 基列 人 睚珥 興起，作 以色列 的士師二十二年。
4Having thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and were princes of thirty cities, which from his name were called Havoth Jair, that is, the towns of Jair, until this present day in the land of Galaad.
4他有三十個兒子，騎着三十匹驢駒。他們有三十座城邑，叫作 哈倭特‧睚珥 ，直到如今，都是在 基列 地。
5And Jair died: and was buried in the place which was called Camon.
5睚珥 死了，就葬在 加們 。
6But the children of Israel, adding new sins to their old ones, did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served idols, Baalim and Astaroth, and the gods of Syria and of Sidon and of Moab and of the children of Ammon and of the Philistines: and they left the Lord, and did not serve him.
6以色列 人又行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，去事奉諸 巴力 和 亞斯她錄 ，並 亞蘭 的神、 西頓 的神、 摩押 的神、 亞捫 人的神、 非利士 人的神，離棄耶和華，不事奉他。
7And the Lord being angry with them, delivered them into the hands of the Philistines and of the children of Ammon.
7耶和華的怒氣向 以色列 人發作，就把他們交在 非利士 人和 亞捫 人的手中。
8And they were afflicted, and grievously oppressed for eighteen years, all they that dwelt beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorrhite, who is in Galaad:
8從那年起，他們擾害欺壓 約旦河 那邊、住 亞摩利 人之 基列 地的 以色列 人，共有十八年。
9Insomuch that the children of Ammon passing over the Jordan, wasted Juda and Benjamin and Ephraim: and Israel was distressed exceedingly.
9亞捫 人又渡過 約旦河 去攻打 猶大 和 便雅憫 ，並 以法蓮 族。 以色列 人就甚覺窘迫。
10And they cried to the Lord, and said: We have sinned against thee, because we have forsaken the Lord our God, and have served Baalim.
10以色列 人哀求耶和華說：「我們得罪了你；因為離棄了我們上帝，去事奉諸 巴力 。」
11And the Lord said to them: Did not the Egyptians and the Amorrhites, and the children of Ammon and the Philistines,
11耶和華對 以色列 人說：「我豈沒有 救過你們 脫離 埃及 人、 亞摩利 人、 亞捫 人，和 非利士 人嗎？
12The Sidonians also and Amalec and Chanaan oppress you, and you cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand?
12西頓 人、 亞瑪力 人、 馬雲 人也都欺壓你們；你們哀求我，我也拯救你們脫離他們的手。
13And yet you have forsaken me, and have worshipped strange gods: therefore I will deliver you no more:
13你們竟離棄我，事奉別神！所以我不再救你們了。
14Go and call upon the gods which you have chosen: let them deliver you in the time of distress.
14你們去哀求所選擇的神；你們遭遇急難的時候，讓他救你們吧！」
15And the children of Israel said to the Lord: We have sinned, do thou unto us whatsoever pleaseth thee: only deliver us this time.
15以色列 人對耶和華說：「我們犯罪了，任憑你隨意待我們吧！只求你今日拯救我們。」
16And saying these things, they cast away out of their coasts all the idols of strange gods and served the Lord their God: and he was touched with their miseries.
16以色列 人就除掉他們中間的外邦神，事奉耶和華。耶和華因 以色列 人受的苦難，就心中擔憂。
17And the children of Ammon shouting together, pitched their tents in Galaad: against whom the children of Israel assembled themselves together and camped in Maspha.
17當時 亞捫 人聚集，安營在 基列 。 以色列 人也聚集，安營在 米斯巴 。
18And the princes of Galaad said one to another: Whosoever of us shall first begin to fight against the children of Ammon, he shall be the leader of the people of Galaad.
18基列 的民和眾首領彼此商議說：「誰能先去攻打 亞捫 人，誰必作 基列 一切居民的領袖。」
