1But behold there arose a sedition in Ephraim. And passing towards the north, they said to Jephte: When thou wentest to fight against the children of Ammon, why wouldst thou not call us, that we might go with thee? Therefore we will burn thy house.
1以法蓮 人聚集，到了北方，對 耶弗他 說：「你去與 亞捫 人爭戰，為甚麼沒有招我們同去呢？我們必用火燒你和你的房屋。」
2And he answered them: I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon: and I called you to assist me, and you would not do it.
2耶弗他 對他們說：「我和我的民與 亞捫 人大大爭戰；我招你們來，你們竟沒有來救我脫離他們的手。
3And when I saw this, I put my life in my own hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hands. What have I deserved, that you should rise up to fight against me?
3我見你們不來救我，我就拚命前去攻擊 亞捫 人，耶和華將他們交在我手中。你們今日為甚麼上我這裏來攻打我呢？」
4Then calling to him all the men of Galaad, he fought against Ephraim: and the men of Galaad defeated Ephraim, because he had said: Galaad is a fugitive of Ephraim, and dwelleth in the midst of Ephraim and Manasses.
4於是 耶弗他 招聚 基列 人，與 以法蓮 人爭戰。 基列 人擊殺 以法蓮 人，是因他們說：「你們 基列 人在 以法蓮 、 瑪拿西 中間，不過是 以法蓮 逃亡的人。」
5And the Galaadites secured the fords of the Jordan, by which Ephraim was to return. And when any one of the number of Ephraim came thither in the flight, and said: I beseech you let me pass: the Galaadites said to him: Art thou not an Ephraimite? If he said: I am not:
5基列 人把守 約旦河 的渡口，不容 以法蓮 人過去。 以法蓮 逃走的人若說：「容我過去。」 基列 人就問他說：「你是 以法蓮 人不是？」他若說：「不是」，
6They asked him: Say then, Scibboleth, which is interpreted, An ear of corn. But he answered, Sibboleth, not being able to express an ear of corn by the same letter. Then presently they took him and killed him in the very passage of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim two and forty thousand.
6就對他說：「你說『示播列』。」 以法蓮 人因為咬不真字音，便說「西播列」。 基列 人就將他拿住，殺在 約旦河 的渡口。那時 以法蓮 人被殺的有四萬二千人。
7And Jephte the Galaadite judged Israel six years: and he died, and was buried in his city of Galaad.
7耶弗他 作 以色列 的士師六年。 基列 人 耶弗他 死了，葬在 基列 的一座城裏。
8After him Abesan of Bethlehem judged Israel:
8耶弗他 以後，有 伯利恆 人 以比讚 作 以色列 的士師。
9He had thirty sons, and as many daughters, whom he sent abroad, and gave to husbands, and took wives for his sons of the same number, bringing them into his house. And he judged Israel seven years:
9他有三十個兒子，三十個女兒；女兒都嫁出去了。他給眾子從外鄉娶了三十個媳婦。他作 以色列 的士師七年。
10And he died, and was buried in Bethlehem.
10以比讚 死了，葬在 伯利恆 。
11To him succeeded Ahialon a Zabulonite: and he judged Israel ten years:
11以比讚 之後，有 西布倫 人 以倫 ，作 以色列 的士師十年。
12And he died, and was buried in Zabulon.
12西布倫 人 以倫 死了，葬在 西布倫 地的 亞雅崙 。
13After him Abdon, the son of Illel, a Pharathonite, judged Israel:
13以倫 之後，有 比拉頓 人 希列 的兒子 押頓 作 以色列 的士師。
14And he had forty sons, and of them thirty grandsons, mounted upon seventy ass colts, and he judged Israel eight years:
14他有四十個兒子，三十個孫子，騎着七十匹驢駒。 押頓 作 以色列 的士師八年。
15And he died, and was buried in Pharathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of Amalech.
15比拉頓 人 希列 的兒子 押頓 死了，葬在 以法蓮 地的 比拉頓 ，在 亞瑪力 人的山地。
