1After Abimelech there arose a ruler in Israel, Thola son of Phua the uncle of Abimelech, a man of Issachar, who dwelt in Samir of mount Ephraim:
1A MAHOPE iho o Abimeleka, ku mai o Tola, ke keiki a Pua, ke keiki a Dodo, he kanaka no ka Isakara, nana i hoola i ka Iseraela. A noho no ia ma Samira, ma ka mauna o Eperaima.
2And he judged Israel three and twenty years, and he died and was buried in Samir.
2Nana i hooponopono i ka Iseraela, he iwakaluakumamakolu makahiki, a make ia, kanuia iho la ia ma Samira.
3To him succeeded Jair the Galaadite, who judged Israel for two and twenty years.
3Mahope iho ona, ku mai o Iaira, he kanaka no Gileada, nana i hooponopono i ka Iseraela, he iwakaluakumamalua makahiki.
4Having thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and were princes of thirty cities, which from his name were called Havoth Jair, that is, the towns of Jair, until this present day in the land of Galaad.
4He kanakolu ana mau keikikane, a holo lakou maluna o na hoki keiki, he kanakolu; he kanakolu ko lakou poe kulanakauhale, i kapaia Havote-iaira, a hiki mai i neia la; aia no ma ka aina o Gileada.
5And Jair died: and was buried in the place which was called Camon.
5Make iho la o Iaira, a kanuia iho la ma Kamona.
6But the children of Israel, adding new sins to their old ones, did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served idols, Baalim and Astaroth, and the gods of Syria and of Sidon and of Moab and of the children of Ammon and of the Philistines: and they left the Lord, and did not serve him.
6Hana hewa hou aku la na mamo a Iseraela, imua o Iehova, a malama aku la i na Baala, a me na Asetarota, a me na'kua o Suria, a me na'kua o Sidona, a me na'kua o Moaba, a me na'kua o na mamo a Amora, a me na'kua o ko Pilisetia, a haalele ia Iehova, aole i malama ia ia.
7And the Lord being angry with them, delivered them into the hands of the Philistines and of the children of Ammon.
7Wela iho la ka huhu o Iehova i ka Iseraela, a hoolilo aku la ia lakou i ka lima o ko Pilisetia, a i ka lima o na mamo a Amona.
8And they were afflicted, and grievously oppressed for eighteen years, all they that dwelt beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorrhite, who is in Galaad:
8Ia kau, hoino mai la lakou, a hookaumaha loa i na mamo a Iseraela, he umikumamawalu makahiki, i na mamo a pau a Iseraela, ma ia aoao o Ioredane, ma ka aina o ka Amora, oia hoi ma Gileada.
9Insomuch that the children of Ammon passing over the Jordan, wasted Juda and Benjamin and Ephraim: and Israel was distressed exceedingly.
9Hele ae no hoi na mamo a Amona i kela aoao o Ioredane, a kaua ae la i ka Iuda, a i ka Beniamina, a i ko ka hale a Eperaima; no ia mea, kaumaha loa ka Iseraela.
10And they cried to the Lord, and said: We have sinned against thee, because we have forsaken the Lord our God, and have served Baalim.
10Hea aku la na mamo a Iseraela ia Iehova, i aku la, Ua hana hewa makou ia oe, no ka mea, ua haalele makou i ko makou Akua, a ua malama i na Baala.
11And the Lord said to them: Did not the Egyptians and the Amorrhites, and the children of Ammon and the Philistines,
11I mai la o Iehova i na mamo a Iseraela, Aole anei na'u oukou i hoopakele, mai ko Aigupita mai? a mai ka Amora mai, a mai na mamo a Amona mai, a mai ko Pilisetia mai?
12The Sidonians also and Amalec and Chanaan oppress you, and you cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand?
12Hookaumaha mai no hoi o ko Zidona ia oukou, a me ka Ameleka, a me ka Maona, a hea mai oukou ia'u, a hoola mai au ia oukou; mai ko lakou lima mai.
13And yet you have forsaken me, and have worshipped strange gods: therefore I will deliver you no more:
13Aka, ua haalele oukou ia'u, a ua malama i na'kua e; nolaila, aole au e hoola hou ia oukou.
14Go and call upon the gods which you have chosen: let them deliver you in the time of distress.
14E hele oukou, e hea aku i na'kua a oukou i koho ai; na lakou e hoola mai ia oukou, i ka manawa o ko oukou kaumaha.
15And the children of Israel said to the Lord: We have sinned, do thou unto us whatsoever pleaseth thee: only deliver us this time.
15I aku la na mamo o Iseraela ia Iehova, Ua hana hewa makou, o ka mea i pono i kou mau maka, pela oe e hana mai ai ia makou. Ke noi aku nei makou ia oe, e hoola mai ia makou i keia la wale no.
16And saying these things, they cast away out of their coasts all the idols of strange gods and served the Lord their God: and he was touched with their miseries.
16Kiola aku la lakou i na'kua e, mai o lakou aku, a malama iho la ia Iehova; a menemene iho la kona uhane, no ke kaumaha nui o ka Iseraela.
17And the children of Ammon shouting together, pitched their tents in Galaad: against whom the children of Israel assembled themselves together and camped in Maspha.
17Akoakoa mai la na mamo a Amona, a hoomoana iho la ma Gileada; a akoakoa mai la na mamo a Iseraela, a hoomoana iho la ma Mizepa.
18And the princes of Galaad said one to another: Whosoever of us shall first begin to fight against the children of Ammon, he shall be the leader of the people of Galaad.
18I ae la na kanaka, ka poe luna o Gileada hoi, kekahi i kekahi, Owai ke kanaka e hoomaka i ke kaua aku i na mamo a Amona? E lilo ia i luna maluna o na kanaka a pau o Gileada.
