1A faithful saying: if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
1คำกล่าวนี้เชื่อถือได้ คือถ้าใครปรารถนาจะเป็นผู้ดูแล เขาก็ปรารถนางานที่ดี
2It behoveth therefore a bishop to be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, prudent, of good behaviour, chaste, given to hospitality, a teacher,
2ดังนั้น ผู้ดูแลต้องไม่มีที่ตำหนิ มีภรรยาเพียงคนเดียว รู้จักประมาณตน มีสติสัมปชัญญะ วางตัวเหมาะสม ต้อนรับแขก และสอนได้ดี
3Not given to wine, no striker, but modest, not quarrelsome, not covetous, but
3ไม่ดื่มเหล้า ไม่ใช้ความรุนแรง ไม่โลภเงิน แต่สุภาพ ไม่ชอบทะเลาะ และไม่รักเงิน
4One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all chastity.
4เขาต้องจัดการบ้านของตนได้ดี มีลูกที่เชื่อฟังและวางตัวน่านับถือทุกประการ
5But if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?
5เพราะถ้าใครไม่รู้จักจัดการบ้านของตน เขาจะดูแลประชาคมของพระเจ้าได้อย่างไร?
6Not a neophyte: lest being puffed up with pride, he fall into the judgment of the devil.
6เขาต้องไม่ใช่ผู้ที่เพิ่งมาเชื่อ มิฉะนั้นอาจหยิ่งผยองและตกอยู่ในการพิพากษาแบบเดียวกับมาร
7Moreover he must have a good testimony of them who are without: lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
7นอกจากนี้ เขาต้องมีชื่อเสียงดีในสายตาคนนอก เพื่อจะไม่ตกอยู่ในคำตำหนิและกับดักของมาร
8Deacons in like manner chaste, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre:
8ผู้รับใช้ ก็เช่นกัน ต้องวางตัวน่านับถือ ไม่พูดสองหน้า ไม่ติดเหล้าองุ่นอย่างหนัก และไม่โลภเงิน
9Holding the mystery of faith in a pure conscience.
9ต้องยึดความลับแห่งความเชื่อไว้ด้วยจิตสำนึกบริสุทธิ์
10And let these also first be proved: and so let them minister, having no crime.
10ให้ทดสอบพวกเขาก่อน แล้วถ้าไม่มีที่ตำหนิจึงให้รับใช้
11The women in like manner chaste, not slanderers, but sober, faithful in all things.
11ภรรยาของพวกเขาก็เช่นกัน ต้องวางตัวน่านับถือ ไม่ใส่ร้ายคนอื่น รู้จักประมาณตน และไว้วางใจได้ในทุกเรื่อง
12Let deacons be the husbands of one wife: who rule well their children, and their own houses.
12ให้ผู้รับใช้ มีภรรยาเพียงคนเดียว และจัดการลูกกับบ้านของตนได้ดี
13For they that have ministered well, shall purchase to themselves a good degree, and much confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
13เพราะผู้ที่รับใช้ได้ดี ย่อมสร้างฐานะที่น่านับถือให้แก่ตนเอง และมีความกล้าอย่างมากในความเชื่อที่มีอยู่ในพระคริสต์เยซู
14These things I write to thee, hoping that I shall come to thee shortly.
14ข้าพเจ้าเขียนสิ่งเหล่านี้ถึงคุณ โดยหวังว่าจะมาหาคุณในไม่ช้า
15But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
15แต่ถ้าข้าพเจ้ามาช้า คุณจะได้รู้ว่าคนควรประพฤติตัวอย่างไรในบ้านของพระเจ้า ซึ่งก็คือประชาคมของพระเจ้าผู้มีชีวิตอยู่ เป็นเสาหลักและฐานรองรับความจริง
16And evidently great is the mystery of godliness, which was manifested in the flesh, was justified in the spirit, appeared unto angels, hath been preached unto the Gentiles, is believed in the world, is taken up in glory.
16ไม่มีข้อโต้แย้งเลยว่า ความลับแห่งความเคารพพระเจ้านั้นยิ่งใหญ่ พระเจ้า ปรากฏในเนื้อหนัง ได้รับการยืนยันว่าชอบธรรมในวิญญาณ เหล่าทูตสวรรค์ได้เห็นพระองค์ ได้รับการประกาศในหมู่ชนชาติต่าง ๆ ได้รับการเชื่อในโลก และถูกรับขึ้นไปในพระสิริ
