1那时， 犹大 离开他弟兄下去，到一个 亚杜兰 人名叫 希拉 的家里去。
1And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
2犹大 在那里看见一个 迦南 人名叫 书亚 的女儿，就娶她为妻，与她同房，
2And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua; and he took her, and went in unto her.
3她就怀孕生了儿子， 犹大 给他起名叫 珥 。
3And she conceived, and bore a son; and he called his name Er.
4她又怀孕生了儿子，母亲给他起名叫 俄南 。
4And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she called his name Onan.
5她复又生了儿子，给他起名叫 示拉 。她生 示拉 的时候， 犹大 正在 基悉 。
5And she yet again bore a son, and called his name Shelah; and he was at Chezib, when she bore him.
6犹大 为长子 珥 娶妻，名叫 她玛 。
6And Judah took a wife for Er his first-born, and her name was Tamar.
7犹大 的长子 珥 在耶和华眼中看为恶，耶和华就叫他死了。
7And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
8犹大 对 俄南 说：「你当与你哥哥的妻子同房，向她尽你为弟的本分，为你哥哥生子立后。」
8And Judah said unto Onan: 'Go in unto thy brother's wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her, and raise up seed to thy brother.'
9俄南 知道生子不归自己，所以同房的时候便遗在地，免得给他哥哥留后。
9And Onan knew that the seed would not be his; and it came to pass when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.
10俄南 所做的在耶和华眼中看为恶，耶和华也就叫他死了。
10And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of the LORD; and He slew him also.
11犹大 心里说：「恐怕 示拉 也死，像他两个哥哥一样」，就对他儿妇 她玛 说：「你去，在你父亲家里守寡，等我儿子 示拉 长大。」 她玛 就回去，住在她父亲家里。
11Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law: 'Remain a widow in thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown up'; for he said: 'Lest he also die, like his brethren.' And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
12过了许久， 犹大 的妻子 书亚 的女儿死了。 犹大 得了安慰，就和他朋友 亚杜兰 人 希拉 上 亭拿 去，到他剪羊毛的人那里。
12And in process of time Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheep-shearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
13有人告诉 她玛 说：「你的公公上 亭拿 剪羊毛去了。」
13And it was told Tamar, saying: 'Behold, thy father-in-law goeth up to Timnah to shear his sheep.'
14她玛 见 示拉 已经长大，还没有娶她为妻，就脱了她作寡妇的衣裳，用帕子蒙着脸，又遮住身体，坐在 亭拿 路上的 伊拿印 城门口。
14And she put off from her the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the entrance of Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she was not given unto him to wife.
15犹大 看见她，以为是妓女，因为她蒙着脸。
15When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; for she had covered her face.
16犹大 就转到她那里去，说：「来吧！让我与你同寝。」他原不知道是他的儿妇。 她玛 说：「你要与我同寝，把什么给我呢？」
16And he turned unto her by the way, and said: 'Come, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee'; for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said: 'What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?'
17犹大 说：「我从羊群里取一只山羊羔，打发人送来给你。」 她玛 说：「在未送以先，你愿意给我一个当头吗？」
17And he said: 'I will send thee a kid of the goats from the flock.' And she said: 'Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?'
18他说：「我给你什么当头呢？」 她玛 说：「你的印、你的带子，和你手里的杖。」 犹大 就给了她，与她同寝，她就从 犹大 怀了孕。
18And he said: 'What pledge shall I give thee?' And she said: 'Thy signet and thy cord, and thy staff that is in thy hand.' And he gave them to her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
19她玛 起来走了，除去帕子，仍旧穿上作寡妇的衣裳。
19And she arose, and went away, and put off her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
20犹大 托他朋友 亚杜兰 人送一只山羊羔去，要从那女人手里取回当头来，却找不着她，
20And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman's hand; but he found her not.
21就问那地方的人说：「 伊拿印 路旁的妓女在哪里？」他们说：「这里并没有妓女。」
21Then he asked the men of her place, saying: 'Where is the harlot, that was at Enaim by the wayside?' And they said: 'There hath been no harlot here.'
22他回去见 犹大 说：「我没有找着她，并且那地方的人说：『这里没有妓女。』」
22And he returned to Judah, and said: 'I have not found her; and also the men of the place said: There hath been no harlot here.'
23犹大 说：「我把这山羊羔送去了，你竟找不着她。任凭她拿去吧，免得我们被羞辱。」
23And Judah said: 'Let her take it, lest we be put to shame; behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.'
24约过了三个月，有人告诉 犹大 说：「你的儿妇 她玛 作了妓女，且因行淫有了身孕。」 犹大 说：「拉出她来，把她烧了！」
24And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying: 'Tamar thy daughter-in-law hath played the harlot; and moreover, behold, she is with child by harlotry.' And Judah said: 'Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.'
25她玛 被拉出来的时候便打发人去见她公公，对他说：「这些东西是谁的，我就是从谁怀的孕。请你认一认，这印和带子并杖都是谁的？」
25When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying: 'By the man, whose these are, am I with child'; and she said: 'Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and the cords, and the staff.'
26犹大 承认说：「她比我更有义，因为我没有将她给我的儿子 示拉 。」从此 犹大 不再与她同寝了。
26And Judah acknowledged them, and said: 'She is more righteous than I; forasmuch as I gave her not to Shelah my son.' And he knew her again no more.
27她玛 将要生产，不料她腹里是一对双生。
27And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.
28到生产的时候，一个孩子伸出一只手来；收生婆拿红线拴在他手上，说：「这是头生的。」
28And it came to pass, when she travailed, that one put out a hand; and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying: 'This came out first.'
29随后这孩子把手收回去，他哥哥生出来了；收生婆说：「你为什么抢着来呢？」因此给他起名叫 法勒斯 。
29And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold his brother came out; and she said: 'Wherefore hast thou made a breach for thyself?' Therefore his name was called Perez.
30后来，他兄弟那手上有红线的也生出来，就给他起名叫 谢拉 。
30And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand; and his name was called Zerah.
