1以色列 的众子，各带家眷，和 雅各 一同来到 埃及 。他们的名字记在下面。
1NOW THESE are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt with Jacob; every man came with his household:
2有 吕便 、 西缅 、 利未 、 犹大 、
2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;
3以萨迦 、 西布伦 、 便雅悯 、
3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;
4但 、 拿弗他利 、 迦得 、 亚设 。
4Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.
5凡从 雅各 而生的，共有七十人。 约瑟 已经在 埃及 。
5And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls; and Joseph was in Egypt already.
6约瑟 和他的弟兄，并那一代的人，都死了。
6And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
7以色列 人生养众多，并且繁茂，极其强盛，满了那地。
7And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
8有不认识 约瑟 的新王起来，治理 埃及 ，
8Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.
9对他的百姓说：「看哪，这 以色列 民比我们还多，又比我们强盛。
9And he said unto his people: 'Behold, the people of the children of Israel are too many and too mighty for us;
10来吧，我们不如用巧计待他们，恐怕他们多起来，日后若遇什么争战的事，就连合我们的仇敌攻击我们，离开这地去了。」
10come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there befalleth us any war, they also join themselves unto our enemies, and fight against us, and get them up out of the land.'
11于是 埃及 人派督工的辖制他们，加重担苦害他们。他们为法老建造两座积货城，就是 比东 和 兰塞 。
11Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh store-cities, Pithom and Raamses.
12只是越发苦害他们，他们越发多起来，越发蔓延； 埃及 人就因 以色列 人愁烦。
12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And they were adread because of the children of Israel.
13埃及 人严严地使 以色列 人做工，
13And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour.
14使他们因做苦工觉得命苦；无论是和泥，是做砖，是做田间各样的工，在一切的工上都严严地待他们。
14And they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field; in all their service, wherein they made them serve with rigour.
15有 希伯来 的两个收生婆，一名 施弗拉 ，一名 普阿 ； 埃及 王对她们说：
15And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah;
16「你们为 希伯来 妇人收生，看她们临盆的时候，若是男孩，就把他杀了；若是女孩，就留她存活。」
16and he said: 'When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, ye shall look upon the birthstool: if it be a son, then ye shall kill him; but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.'
17但是收生婆敬畏 神，不照 埃及 王的吩咐行，竟存留男孩的性命。
17But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men-children alive.
18埃及 王召了收生婆来，说：「你们为什么做这事，存留男孩的性命呢？」
18And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them: 'Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men-children alive?'
19收生婆对法老说：「因为 希伯来 妇人与 埃及 妇人不同； 希伯来 妇人本是健壮的，收生婆还没有到，她们已经生产了。」
19And the midwives said unto Pharaoh: 'Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwife come unto them.'
20神厚待收生婆。 以色列 人多起来，极其强盛。
20And God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
21收生婆因为敬畏 神， 神便叫她们成立家室。
21And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that He made them houses.
22法老吩咐他的众民说：「 以色列 人所生的男孩，你们都要丢在河里；一切的女孩，你们要存留她的性命。」
22And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying: 'Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.'
