1ดังนั้น เมื่อเราทนต่อไปไม่ไหว เราจึงเห็นควรว่าจะอยู่ที่เอเธนส์ตามลำพัง
1For which cause, forbearing no longer, we thought it good to remain at Athens alone:
2และส่งทิโมธี พี่น้องของเราและผู้รับใช้ของพระเจ้าในข่าวดีของพระคริสต์ ไปเพื่อทำให้พวกคุณมั่นคงและให้กำลังใจพวกคุณในเรื่องความเชื่อ
2And we sent Timothy, our brother, and the minister of God in the gospel of Christ, to confirm you and exhort you concerning your faith:
3เพื่อไม่ให้ใครหวั่นไหวเพราะความทุกข์ยากเหล่านี้ พวกคุณรู้อยู่แล้วว่าเราถูกกำหนดไว้ให้เผชิญสิ่งเหล่านี้
3That no man should be moved in these tribulations: for yourselves know, that we are appointed thereunto.
4ที่จริงเมื่อเราอยู่กับพวกคุณ เราบอกพวกคุณล่วงหน้าแล้วว่าเราจะต้องทนทุกข์ยาก และมันก็เกิดขึ้นเช่นนั้นตามที่พวกคุณรู้
4For even when we were with you, we foretold you that we should suffer tribulations, as also it is come to pass, and you know.
5ด้วยเหตุนี้ เมื่อข้าพเจ้าทนต่อไปไม่ไหว ข้าพเจ้าจึงส่งคนไปเพื่อจะได้รู้เรื่องความเชื่อของพวกคุณ ข้าพเจ้าเกรงว่าผู้ล่อลวงอาจล่อลวงพวกคุณ และความตรากตรำของเราจะกลายเป็นสิ่งไร้ผล
5For this cause also, I, forbearing no longer, sent to know your faith: lest perhaps he that tempteth should have tempted you, and our labour should be made vain.
6แต่ตอนนี้ทิโมธีเพิ่งกลับมาหาเราจากพวกคุณ และนำข่าวที่น่ายินดีเกี่ยวกับความเชื่อและความรักของพวกคุณมาให้เรา เขายังบอกด้วยว่าพวกคุณระลึกถึงเราในทางที่ดีอยู่เสมอ และอยากพบเรา เช่นเดียวกับที่เราอยากพบพวกคุณ
6But now when Timothy came to us from you, and related to us your faith and charity, and that you have a good remembrance of us always, desiring to see us as we also to see you;
7ด้วยเหตุนี้ พี่น้อง เราจึงได้รับกำลังใจเกี่ยวกับพวกคุณจากความเชื่อของพวกคุณ ท่ามกลางความทุกข์ใจและความทุกข์ยากทั้งหมดของเรา
7Therefore we were comforted, brethren, in you, in all our necessity and tribulation, by your faith,
8ตอนนี้เรามีชีวิตอยู่ หากพวกคุณยืนหยัดมั่นคงในองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า
8Because now we live, if you stand in the Lord.
9เราจะขอบคุณพระเจ้าสำหรับพวกคุณให้สมกับความยินดีทั้งหมดที่เรามีเพราะพวกคุณต่อหน้าพระเจ้าของเราได้อย่างไร?
9For what thanks can we return to God for you, in all the joy wherewith we rejoice for you before our God,
10ทั้งกลางคืนและกลางวัน เราอธิษฐานอย่างมากมาย ขอให้เราได้พบหน้าพวกคุณและทำให้สิ่งที่ยังขาดอยู่ในความเชื่อของพวกคุณสมบูรณ์ขึ้น
10Night and day more abundantly praying that we may see your face, and may accomplish those things that are wanting to your faith?
11บัดนี้ขอพระเจ้าพระบิดาของเราเอง และองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเยซูคริสต์ของเรา นำทางเราไปหาพวกคุณ
11Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
12ขอองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทำให้ความรักของพวกคุณที่มีต่อกันและต่อทุกคนเพิ่มพูนและล้นเหลือ เช่นเดียวกับความรักของเราที่มีต่อพวกคุณ
12And may the Lord multiply you, and make you abound in charity towards one another, and towards all men: as we do also towards you,
13เพื่อพระองค์จะทำให้ใจของพวกคุณมั่นคง ไม่มีที่ติในความบริสุทธิ์ต่อหน้าพระเจ้าพระบิดาของเรา เมื่อองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเยซูของเรามาพร้อมกับผู้บริสุทธิ์ทั้งปวงของพระองค์
13To confirm your hearts without blame, in holiness, before God and our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, with all his saints. Amen.
