1And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
1พระยาห์เวห์มีถ้อยคำถึงโยนาห์เป็นครั้งที่สอง ว่า
2Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
2“จงลุกขึ้นไปยังมหานครนีนะเวห์ และนำถ้อยคำที่เราให้คุณไปประกาศแก่เมืองนั้น”
3So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD . Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
3โยนาห์จึงลุกขึ้นไปนีนะเวห์ตามถ้อยคำของพระยาห์เวห์ นีนะเวห์เป็นเมืองใหญ่อย่างยิ่ง ต้องใช้เวลาเดินข้ามเมืองสามวัน
4And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
4โยนาห์เริ่มเข้าไปในเมือง เมื่อเดินเข้าไปได้หนึ่งวันก็ร้องประกาศว่า “อีกสี่สิบวัน นีนะเวห์จะถูกทำลาย!”
5¶ So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
5ชาวนีนะเวห์เชื่อพระเจ้า ประกาศให้อดอาหารและสวมผ้ากระสอบ ตั้งแต่คนสำคัญที่สุดจนถึงคนต่ำต้อยที่สุด
6For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
6ข่าวไปถึงกษัตริย์แห่งนีนะเวห์ กษัตริย์ลุกจากบัลลังก์ ถอดเสื้อคลุมกษัตริย์ สวมผ้ากระสอบ และนั่งอยู่ในขี้เถ้า
7And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
7กษัตริย์ให้ประกาศทั่วนีนะเวห์ตามคำสั่งของกษัตริย์และขุนนางว่า “ห้ามทั้งคนและสัตว์ ทั้งฝูงสัตว์ใหญ่และฝูงสัตว์เล็ก ลิ้มรสสิ่งใด ห้ามกินอาหารหรือดื่มน้ำ
8But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
8ให้ทั้งคนและสัตว์สวมผ้ากระสอบ และร้องทูลพระเจ้าอย่างสุดกำลัง ให้ทุกคนหันจากทางชั่วของตนและจากความรุนแรงที่ตนลงมือทำ
9Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
9ใครจะรู้? พระเจ้าอาจหันกลับและเปลี่ยนใจ หันจากความโกรธรุนแรง เพื่อพวกเราจะไม่พินาศก็ได้”
10¶ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
10พระเจ้าเห็นสิ่งที่พวกเขาทำ เห็นว่าพวกเขาหันจากทางชั่วของตน พระเจ้าเปลี่ยนใจเรื่องภัยพิบัติที่กล่าวว่าจะทำแก่พวกเขา และไม่ได้ทำ
